  1. Bit harsh CV Byrne. If Jack does declare for England then sure it'll be annoying, but Ireland have benefited plenty from players who've played for other countries underage setups before declaring for us. What goes round comes around, win some, lose some etc.

As for Stephen Quinn being mean to him, Jack should have told him to **** off back to Pennsylvania.

  2. Love it! classic high horse-ism from all all parties involved, and we're only just finished the first qualifying game.

The high priests of Irish football may have lost their conductor, but having MON & Roy on one side and the 3 old gits on the other is going to bring endless amusement for the next 12 months.

That is one pretty confused post, not even sure what you are saying in the first line.

As for the currency situation the Government have been very clear that currency union isn't on the cards if they vote yes.

As for the EU, if Scotland votes yes and leaves the UK and in turn the EU there is absolutely no chance of them becoming members in their own right within 18 months.

Don't mix up your failure to understand with me being confused.

The currency union is on the cards, trust me. Ask (Nobel Prize winning) economist Joe Stiglitz what's the best outcome for both parties and his answer is simple. Ask (Nobel Prize winning, and Scottish) economist Jim Mirrlees what's the best response if the UK doesn't permit currency union, and he says to walk away from their share of national debt. £100bn on the table here. Think the UK government will say it's "off the table" when you're talking about £2000 per man, woman and child? Would you be happy if your government made you pay £2000 to avoid a currency union with Scotland, Trent?

Absolutely no chance of Scotland being EU members within 18 months of independence, eh? Put your money where you mouth is. What odds will you offer me?

A lot of lads are falling for the hard nosed positions which are adopted in the heat of battle that is the political campaign. Cool heads and high faluting diplomacy will reign supreme once it's all over and if the Scots have voted Yes. Such is the way of nation states in the 21st Century.

  4. Thought MON wanted Dunne to stay on but the honey monster chose to retire? I'm not sure Delaney is the answer seeing as he probably isn't a likely starter for Palace this season.

Hopefully Duffy has an outstanding season at Blackburn and finds himself back in the Premier League sooner or later, he looked decent in the summer friendlies. When the penny drops for Clark and he realises his future lies away from Villa perhaps he'll come back into consideration.

It's frustrating to think we have to put up with Ward at LB seeing as Wilson is needed to fill in at CB and O'Brien has some kind of phobia about actually playing for the BIG. No doubt he'll be starting for WHU this weekend  <_<

  5. I agree, I think the last minute efforts by BT will swing the undecided voters to vote No. We'll be seeing a lot of shenanigans and scare tactics between now and voting day as the establishment tries to reign in those pesky Scots.

Some good old fashioned dirty tricks should do the job here. A 'Raised Terror Alert' here, an Alex Salmond sex tape there, should be enough to convince the Scottish public they're better together. Of course, it's not as if the British establishment would ever stoop to such levels, oh no.  :detect:

  6. It's remarkable to see the gap tighten up so quickly, could it really all be attributed to the second national TV debate? You'd still expect that if the 'Don't Knows' are reluctant to vote Yes now, then they'll break in favour of the NO side given today's well-timed push of the Devo Max proposals.

  7. I reckon when push comes to shove, and the Scotch public are in the booths voting, they'll vote against Independence.

Yup this is my take too, the 'new' Devo Max proposals were predictable once the polling numbers tightened up, should be enough to sway undecided voters to the NO side. Even if the Scots don't vote for independence, they'll still have gotten a good deal out of Westminster out of this referendum.

  8. I'd love it if the Scots group finishes up like that, but I think they're on a bit of a high now. Strachan has worked wonders with 'em, I can see them doing better then they have done for a few years. For comedy value I can see them beating Germany then drawing to Gibraltar

Wales should be making at least the Play Offs given the strength of their first choice XI.

  9. Liverpool would walk this:

    ----------??------------

    Johnson--Flanagan-??--??

    Henderson--Gerrard--Lallana

    Stirling--Sturridge--Lambert

I'm sure they've got a load of young local lads, to fill in the gaps.

    Raheem Sterling is Jamaican

  10. Touching on one of the themes of Monbiot's article, the issue of land ownership in Scotland is quite extraordinary. I'm not sure if it's an issue that's been touched upon during the referendum campaign, or even much can be done about it, but It's quite bizarre a 21st century state can retain what is effectively a pattern of land ownership from the Middle Ages.

  11.

The problem being, the conservatives can't make a big song and dance about this issue. They can't say Scotland would be worse off because they wouldn't be allowed in. The reality being of course, that if Scots vote 'no' in order to stay in europe, they'll then potentially be out voted by southern tories that could indeed, take them out of europe anyway.

Not an easy argument for Dave and George to make.

Scotland get a pretty good deal from being part of the UK. If they want to piss that away for 20 years of North Sea oil then they can go ahead.

Be assured though the SNP do not want the **** of governance issues independence would bring. I really don't think the UK would be the biggest problem in terms of EU membership. Try Spain with their autonomous regions, Catalonia with their independence claim, they would be the first obstacle.

Catalonia may or may not be having its own referendum in November, its a bit of a mess over there.
