  1. How are people blaming Lescott for the goal ? yes the control was bad, but even if he controlled it, it would have ended badly. AWFUL pass and awful decision from Guzan

Because it was a diabolical touch. If he had any sort of technique he could have controlled it and quickly passed it back to Guzan, who could have cleared it properly.

Shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place. Clearly wasnt ready. Seems Chelsea's only real threat to us is relying on our mistakes. Im noticing Guzan's mistakes a lot more and I think I may have just joined the "we need a new keeper" bandwagon.

  2. Putting the results aside, the stats do seem to paint us as a better team than 18th best.

I think the defensive suicide stat would probably give us 1st rank in that dept.

Still though, it does back up what a lot of us were saying up until the understandable recent angerfest. All the more reason why he should stick to his guns and play football we don't have the players for 10 behind the ball military discipline, compact and concentrate for 90 mins, we need to go at teams to get points with this squad, or if we want to contain it should be by keeping the ball not by conceding 2/3rds of the pitch and playing a catenaccio which we just don't have the players to play.

Yep completely agree. He's feeling the pressure and is scared of losing now. He should stick to his guns.

  3. IT'S **** SEPTEMBER!

If we are still in this position come Christmas then we should panic, but for now there is no reason to be overly worried.

Look at the fixtures we've had, then look at our league position. Now look at our upcoming fixtures and tell me you're not worried.

Ok I'm telling you I am not worried.

I was one of the few on here who was convinced we would stay up last season as I believed we had better players than at least three sides. That just about proved to be the case.

This season I believe we have potentially the best squad we have had over the last four seasons. Four seasons when we stayed up.

Before a ball had been kicked I was expecting us to finish between 11th and 14th so either just outside or in the bottom third of the table. Nothing I have seen so far has changed that opinion as armed with the knowledge we had 12 new players and a relatively new manager and coaching team to bed in I always felt it would take a while for things to click and so it is proving.

I feel for those panicking just over a handful of league games into the season I really do as it could well be a very long 8 months they have ahead. For what its worth I don't think it will be however as I am confident come April we will be well clear of the bottom 3.

I agree. For the most part we've played better football this season than the last few, and we definitely have a better squad. Sherwood is feeling the pressure and is probably a little more scared to lose games at the moment - understandably. But if you look at the table and consider that it's only September (October next game of course) I'm really not too worried yet. Through Xmas I expect us to be playing better and playing as we mean to go on. I also expect Sherwood to have improved. He's still a young manager, but i'd say the squad clearly like him judging from Grealish's celebration the other week. The teams around us have really strengthened though, this league is so tough.

  4. I really dont see us getting relegated. Our defence is a mile better and we're actually scoring. That said we dont have a reliable striker and the way our midfield crumbled yesterday and offered ZERO support to our back 4, who consequently got pummeled (and did well to keep the goals out for so long), shows how dependent we are on Gana.

  5. Sherwood **** up massively with our subs today. We were defending great and creating plenty up front. Then all of a sudden we were running on empty, backs against the wall, and he brings on Gestede and Ayew?! Mad. Okay Gil was struggling - sub him off. Don't bring on 2 strikers away from home ffs.

  6.

find it hilarious that everyone thinks that his signing spells doom for Okore or that Okore is so injured he'll never play again, or that Tim doesn't rate him.

    he's the new Carles Gil

Think the depth chart for centre defenders is in following order

    Richards

    Lescott

    Okore

    Ilori

    Clark

    Baker

    Senderos

Senderos is crocked and you can forget Baker for another 12 months.

Everyone seems certain that we've signed this lad as a centre half, when the OS made a point of saying he can play anywhere across the back. I doubt they gathered that info themselves.

Judging on his skillset I can see him playing right back.

Yep, that's what I thought! Doubt tim would bring in 2 CB's, Lescott being the other. Reckon Sherwood sees him as a RB.

  7. So Kozak then?!

Other options clearly didn't pan out. Tim obviously didn't see Austin fitting in for whatever reason. I think he's been fairly open in that he'd 'do something if someone becomes available'. That obviously didn't happen.

Fair play to him for not selling us down the river for Adebayor. He claimed at the weekend that Adebayor was a friend. I think Adebayor will genuinely look back on it as a missed opportunity. At least he can do so from atop his pile of cash. If his attitude stinks or he wasn't up for it 1% then Sherwood did e right thing.

I'm trying to be optimistic. The squad, on paper at least, looks far better than last season. It's just that the big goalscoring cog in the machine is either missing or an unknown commodity. It's certainly risky.

4 games in = other options clearly didn't work out. **** sake.

  8. Grealish - Gil - Traore

It has to be the way we should start most matches this season. IMO, outside of the top 6, you're not going to get many attacking midfield trios better than that.

We've not seen enough of Traore in the Prem yet. Sinclair Grealish Gil and Traore as a sub i'd imagine.

  9. today is prove we still need in for 3 areas.

    1) striker that replace benteke. Rudy is too static and easy closed down, and Ayew is not ready yet, and Kozak (should start him indeed Rudy, if he (Rudy) still not confience and less mobility)

rudy can great player if he kept move around bit more and practise volley shot, and accuracy finisher.

    2) sign right back, simpler to Amavi but right foot .... Trippier will be great choice i am gut he join spurs as we were in for him (i think)..  should we try cheeky bid or loan K.walker again if he not regular RB as Trippier join them....

    3) centre half first choice partner with Richards - Lescott if he is cheap. (Lescott + Richards and Okore + Clark as back up) it is great options. i still dont know why Baker sign 5 years indeed Okore.

I love how it says you've 'edited' this post.

  10. Sinclair MOTM (for the 2 goals), otherwise it would have been Westwood. Didn't like Gestede up front. He wins every ball but all we did was cross to him and it didn't work. We did play well though - getting more shots and opportunities, and rarely made mistakes. The team looks to have gelled, which is good! Reckon we need a striker though.

  11. I've been away for the past 2 weeks, and lots of transfer activity seems to have happened in the meantime.

i'm a bit lost who we have signed/not signed/almost signed and what sort of player they are.

Would someone be kind enough to list all the players we have signed (ideally with position, rough fee, and club they've come from)?

    Cheers!

    Yeah here you go:

  12.

PES and FIFA have him with a 61-64 rating. So wouldn't get near my starting line-up. Baptiste is only 21 though so under the 'potential' category. If there's anything in this then it should be a low budget squad player type deal as per Jose from Cordoba.

Very low rating, but they classed Grealish in the 60's before the start of last season.

    Who Veretout?! He's a 76..

  13. Ade 12

    Ayew 8

    Kozak 5

    Gabby 3

I think is a realistic and conservative prediction for those lot. Gestede added to the equation would reduce someone else's number but may push the figures up overall.

A handful of goals from elsewhere in the team and that may be enough to keep us up

I definitely think we'll need Ade to be the main man.

With someone like Gil slipping him in effectively (giggity) that's when he becomes dangerous. Sherwood has already said Gil will be playing more so I'd expect Gabby to be scoring more than last season with relative ease.

  14. Weird signing. Phenomenal player in his prime and he'd deffo have a few tricks to teach, but id hope he wouldn't feature that much to be honest - if he were to sign that is. Rather just get Adebayor.

    Hopefully just a rumour.

Whilst we do need more striker options (even with Adebayor coming in) I just don't think this is a good choice.

He can produce moments of magic and he could teach the younger players a few tricks, but we can't afford to have a luxury player who will turn up 5 times a season ( for reference see Gabby Abonglahor).

I'd much rather a young, raw talent, who has something prove and with scope to develop. Especially if we are bringing in Adebayor because we will just find ourselves in a situation where we are having to replace two ageing strikers (with no resale value) in the next summer window.

    THIS. Couldn't agree more!

  15. It will be handy for Sherwood having a player he trusts that speaks French given the influx over the channel this summer.

Agreed. Adebayor can be a leader, and we all know he can score.
