  1. Wouldn't really be excited about Hughes or Moyes.

Rikjaard, Van Gaal, Jol, Anchelloti, Deschamps

this rijkaard is free in 3 days time from contract

van gaal is free from contracts

    ancellotti is free from contracts

deschamps is making noises about discontent

3 out of 4 are ready to go, they are top managers, winners at management level, internationally respected managers who have managed top european clubs. managers who will force people to take notice, force people like young and downing to consider things far more closely than before, attract better players to the club and so on and so on

    or

    hughes

its like saying do you want a car for free, any car its yours for free but you must pay the running costs

do you go for the rolls royce, it is awesome, pure quality, gets noticed, gets respect and people admire it but it costs alot to keep it going although it will get you there in style and you get the best car parking space

or do you go for the ford focus deisel, nothing wrong with it and it will get you places although doesnt look good, performance is suspect and never gets above 80 miles per hour when it has a full load and when you park it you get a key scratch in it and someone parks their stupid honda jazz next to it and opens their door into the side panel of your car causing a small dent in it.

As a man who works in car rental, you've almost convinced me....

As a man that doesn't work in car anything, you've confused me. Are you for or against a reliable but cheap alternative? If you're driving a taxi or a limo, you attract better clientele (players) in the Rolls. I want a name that has some excitement to it.... not the reliable ford focus.

  2. I'm deeply concerned at the lack of footballing brains. Not only on the touchline, but on the field. Wigan dominated possession for long stretches in the second half and we seemed to have no idea what to do about it. If the coaches don't know how to stop walker from making foolish runs, why aren't the team screaming at him? If Albrighton is putting long balls into a hole of defensive pressure where the attack will end, why isn't a senior player taking him to school for it?

I just don't get why professional players will tolerate foolish decisions from their teammates.

Wigan had nowhere near the threat we had, but we showed no football understanding about how to stop them, or take them apart. I find it hard to believe that's all on the management. I know how to tell Dunne his backpass is crap. Why are his teammates tolerating it?

  3. Glad Heskey is back in, we look a lot more solid at defending set pieces with him at the back. I imagine he will be looking to play well against his old club too.

We may aswell play 3 center backs then. I'd probably have more trust in Cuellar in front of goal than Heskey  .

Even the greatest fool could see that Heskey has never brought a great number of goals to the team.

And you would have the expertise on what the greatest fool could see. (Sorry, I just couldn't restrain myself)

  4. Bents goal was great, but I gave MOTM to Friedel, 2 brilliant saves in first half or we would have been out of this one before it started.

Stoke should be demoted regardless of the table for the reason that they deliberately prevent every match from becoming a actual football experience. What sport is it they are trying at?

  5. I thought that today was his worst performance for us. As always, a few flashes of brilliant touch, vision, and anticipation. But not as many, and seemed a bit lost when we hadn't possession.

  6. I thought Walker and Makoun both had their worst match for us. Whether any calls were right or wrong. We got a break that the goal wasn't allowed. We got a break that Bent wasn't called offside on his second. We got unlucky that the PK was awarded. I think it's the first time all year we got a more good luck than bad. Hope it's the beginning of a trend.

Oh, and anyone that wants to blame this draw on Houllier, has much more agenda than rationale.

  7. i'm busy at work... i fired my assistant a couple of weeks ago, and so until i get a new person in, i have lots of work to do.

Where should I send my application?

  8. General, I saw the local paper where you will be the new President of Birmingham Southern. It's a small school, but it has a huge academic reputation. I was more than a little shocked, but after thinking about it, Villa fans in Alabama are few and far between so, when you are next in town, I'll buy at Dreamland (Famous Bar-b-q place... not what it sounds like). I can also give you the run down on the local football scene, including the soccer programs at Southern. But since it's supposed to be a question...

Can I come to your place on campus and watch Villa matches that aren't televised?

  9. I haven't voted because I think he's here whatever we think. The only way he's getting sacked is if we get relegated this season.

That said, just a thought, but what is the point of sacking him in the summer. We'd only take all of the close season to select another Manager (can't see us tapping someone up). Wasting away valuable buying time yet again. Therefore, why not sack him the minute we are safe? Unless of course it goes down to the wire, why I don't think it will. I genuinely think he's here for the next three or four years though and will end up moving upstairs.

I must be honest, I've said before that I can't wait until this season is over, what a waste, but I think he's changing things and playing better football. We can't defend, we miss simple chances. Change that in the summer and I think GH will change people's minds.

Since you think very similarly to me, I can unequivocally state that you are brilliant.

  10. Dodgy knees. I have stared at your avatar for some time now... and I must say, I'm pretty certain those are not knees.

I think GH should stay for now, sign no-one until august when he sanctions bringing in a checkered player that doesn't want to be here in partial trade for our best player. Then, he should leave unannounced, in a snit, 5 days before the season, with the club still on an unsustainable wage bill. Oh, and take most of the coaching staff with him. That will set up the next guy for great success. Oh, and then have a caretaker who's a "nice guy" to make certain the players resent discipline when the new guy arrives. (I'm sorry, I know I'm not on the script here, but I couldn't help myself.)

  11. I will grant that the manager needs to sort out our defending. (But the defending did not go bad after GH got here... Newcastle anyone?)

Our defense made mistakes. (Baker was marking Cahill on both of Gary's goals. He deserves a little lenience being young and forced into action through injuries.)

But please consider the defensive errors Bolton's "experienced pro's" made. Was it 5 blown offside traps that should have resulted in Bent one-on-one? Anyone notice the ridiculous marking on the one Bent tapped in? Watch the replay of Walker's build up to that goal. Two let walker go by, one let's the ball bounce, another lets Bent run right past him. Another stupid defensive play gave Downing a touch that was easier to score than to miss. An absurd lunge gave away a PK. (should have been in the book)

My point is that the defense being slated here made errors, but Bolton's defense made more errors. Much worse because it was their first choice. The difference is that we were punished for the errors of kids. They were not punished for the errors of their first team.

  12. J2M has clearly demonstrated over his first few games that he is a fine player when he has the ball, moves it quickly, simply and is always available for a return. However its when he hasn't got the ball that worries me. For all his fine attributes this is an area of his game that needs major improvement hence the bollockings he is receiving. He doesn't get close enough and allows players to run off him. Maybe this is just the pace of the game and it may take him time to adjust. Until then I can't get overly excited by him. However if he gets it right will will have a great player in the making

Agree, which is the reason why I'd start a Midfield 3 of Makoun alongside one from:

Petrov / Bradely / Reo Coker

    and one from:

    Delph / Downing / Bannan

    I second that line-up.

  13. This didn't take nearly as much time.

I watched a replay of Aresenal Everton last night. Very fun match, very open, lot's of creativity. Arsenal seemed to flow well and Fabregas ran the show.

I know, every match and every opponent is different, but since playing them in the same side on the same day against the same opponent isn't possible, you have to sacrifice some accuracy. So i just picked the most recent match i had seen for each.

    Fabregas vs. Everton.

    60 passes

    44 successful (41 from open play) 73.3%

    16 unsuccessful 26.6%

    Makoun vs. Fulham.

    73 passes

    61 successful 83.5%

    12 unsuccessfull 16.4%

I really don't understand those that can't see he is class.

  14. Makoun is class, anyone who disagrees is obviously anti Houllier. You can tell he is a lot better than anything else we have in midfield, some of the one touch through balls into space he made yesterday were quality and it's not his fault Petrov is so slow and negative minded that he has to track back just incase. If we had a CDM in midfield who could work next to him, similar to NRC, he would be allowed to play the game he wants, not sit back and protect Petrov.

I'm not anti-Houllier. But neither am I anti-Petrov. Time will tell but I'm yet to be convinced that Makoun is any better than Bannan.

In that case you should watch the last few games. Nothing more to be said.

I've seen them, thanks for the advice. That's how I came to my opinion. Nothing more to be said.

Ah, well. There was me thinking you hadn't. Easy mistake to make.

Easy mistake to make.... that makes my day :crylaugh:
