  1. bickering over re-signing Downing.

Panicking we'll lose Delph for a fee that gets lower every day.

Waiting for Benteke and Vlaar to leave.

Linked to nothing but average or risky players, foreign players no-one has heard of whose agents are using us to ramp up fees for the genuine buyers. Links to expensive goalkeepers we didn't think we needed.

The good feeling generated by signing Richards certainly went quickly.

Says more about our fans than reality. Complaining about links. Complaining about players we haven't signed. Complaining about what the manager might do. And all without any basis in fact.

People need to get a goddamn grip.

  2. It would be hilarious if "A Step Higher" Ron ended up signing for Sunderland.

Sadly the only teams in the league this coming season not a step higher than us based on last year are the 3 promoted clubs

  3. It's only released in less than 2 weeks, and it may be going on to ps+ straight away? Not sure how I feel about that, on the plus side there will be lots of nubs I guess. But when sarp eventually hit ps+ on ps3, it injected a lot of new players at a time when they were needed...

It's going on PS+ on launch day, quite a few bigger indies do that. It increases the install base for the game, and the dev gets a wedge of cash from Sony. Also encourages DLC purchases afterwards

  4. Luckily they are also generally more intelligent than adults give them credit for!

This. Does nobody remember being a kid? I certainly can't remember looking at someone in the media being a bit of a tit and thinking "wow, I gotta do that because he's doing it", or looking at a footballer's off the pitch antics and caring either way. Kids aren't idiots, for the most part, if they're raised to know what's acceptable and what isn't then seeing some goon on the back pages doing something thick won't make them run out and do it

  5.

I'm not sure I follow what useless is arguing, but I also don't think it's quite as ridiculous as is being made out. We're supposedly in a period of exclusivity, right? With people pouring over the books and stuff? It seems to me that the 'normal' procedure may be a little different at the moment. Wilkins might be on, what, the best part of a million quid a year? Maybe less. But that might still need a bit more permission in the clubs current situation than it normally would.

Why would our budgets change during a period of exclusivity. Providing we stay within the clubs budget and FFP laws I really don't know why the budgets would be changed, or why anyone looking at the books would be alarmed by it?

I'd imagine that once money off the books in terms of weekly wages for the players who have left, plus the income from transfers out, is greater than or equal to the money we've added to the books with new wages, then it is unlikely to make any major difference to due process. A couple of pages addendum would show the adjusted balances with everything taken into consideration and once it's not more than what they've been looking at previously, I can't see them caring.

  6. I think you've missed the point Andy, no one is saying that the travesty would be that kids wouldn't want to be footballers anymore. The concern is that kids will want to be like their role models, and will think it's okay to be an asshole/ drunk/ rude/ woman abuser etc etc etc

If kids think that from looking at famous people then they're being raised very poorly, and have bigger problems than what Jack Grealish gets up to on holiday

Stoke apparently close to shaquiri for 9m now that would be a real marquee signing for us

Thankfully it looks like he wants to join Inter.  That would have been a very annoying signing if they'd managed that.

Regarding Begovic.  Ignoring our own opinions of our keepers for a moment.  We know Sherwood has chopped and changed them so he is clearly unsure about them.  It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he was interested in bringing in arguably the best available keeper in the Premier League.

Agreed, Begovic is an improvement on both Guzan and Given.

I do like Guzan and rate him to a certain extent, but cant be sentimental as the current team finished 17th in the league last year, any position that can be improved on, then go for it.

Guzan is a very good keeper, with potential to be a great one, but I'd definitely take Begovic. He's a bit better, a bit younger, and a bit more consistent. Yes please

  8. when you consider every now and then it comes out about a ex pro struggling ( wasnt there an ex arse player last year said he was homeless? ) having the money aside for later in life ( retirement years 60+ ) is a wise thong to do.if footballers get used to a certain way of living more than likely most would blows theres im sure..so taking a cut of the wages and putting it aside to hit 65 say is the best thing the Premier League could do.

it'll never happen tho because majority of footballers are to greedy and would argue they need that 5% now

If it was put into a tax free savings account at 5% of gross, or at least a very low tax one, they'd barely notice any difference in their wage packet. Instead of getting 30k gross, they'd be getting 28,500k gross, with the actual difference in weekly income to them only being around 750 a week I think (from the little I know of UK tax), for example

  9. I find it hard to believe that players will perform at that level for a manager they liked.

Not even if they're being set up with the tactical grace of a snooker ball rolling down a stairs?

  10. Zog would easily be able to get 50-60k a week there. Imports are paid handsomely, it's their homegrown guys who earn a comparable wage to a McDonalds store manager (I'm not even joking either)

  11. There's no amount of boozing a 19 year old professional athlete can do in a couple of weeks during the off season that won't be undone within his first week back training.

Also, there's nothing to say he's not taking in a 10k run every day before he heads out on the piss. Nothing to say he IS either, but the guy's an athlete in top fitness and at an age where boozing has very little affect.

If he's still at it in his mod 20s, he'll have an issue later in his career but once he's keeping it to preseason it really shouldn't matter how much he drinks

  12. only after 3 players

a.) it says "at least" 3 players

b.) nobody knows how many players we're in the market for

I wish people would stop putting so much stock in transfer rumours. There's nothing to 99% of them, yet every bloody link someone on here takes it as being cold hard fact

  13.

No chance of him going to the MLS with a year left on his fat wages here.

    He'd get more in America

I seriously doubt any MLS side would buy him from us and give him wages above what we pay him.

Michael Bradley makes 86k (pounds, not dollars) a week at Toronto
