You miss my point completely. I respect Irelands right to independence, I hope one day to see that Island united.I would respect any decision by the Sots to go their own way, if that is their wish. I argue simply that it would diminish us as a nation if we put barriers between us that don’t need to be there. I’m a trade unionist, one of our great tenets is, unity is strength. I believe that goes for all the peoples on this island we live on.

As a trade unionist you’ll appreciate how galling it must be to always vote left and almost always get right.

  2. If both of you are interested, then build it in to some day trips and weekends.

Have a day in Oxford, but google record shops first. You’ll pretty quickly work out which ones stock what you like, have reasonable prices, and have a decent coffee shop in walking distance.

I was going to suggest using the Dinked website as another gauge of what shops are nearby. Interestingly, the Midlands generally appears to be a bit un represented on their partners shop map.

Whatever your social media thing is, follow a couple of extra accounts of record shops, or online sellers, record labels, bands and venues. Pretty soon from that you’ll work out what’s good for you and what isn’t a great fit. That’s how I use the great satan X. One of the handy things here in the good bit, Spillers issue a weekly new stock sheet. So as well as keeping tabs on Bandcamp for bands I already know I like, I get to look through their listing every week. Anything I’ve never heard of, a quick google and I know if it goes on the list. If you’ve built up a bit of a rapport, you can just get a shop to stockpile or reserve stuff for you, until you get back to that town / shop a few weeks later.

I know Bandcamp is already mentioned, it’s great. Algorithm is a bit glitchy, it insists I’m gonna like screaming doom laden incel death metal.

  3. Yeah, I get the bit around the Bute agreement and ditching the Greens before they ditched him. That’s what I don’t understand. He so clearly needed them that ditching the Green Agenda so thoroughly was such a dumb move, there must have been a dozen ways to keep talking, keep compromising, get the other side of the Westminster election. His actions could only ever have ended this way. Whatever policies you back, or believe in, or put up with, there’s some pretty simple maths to consider first.

  4. What a shitshow, without knowing too much, it has the feel of having been so avoidably self inflicted.

To abandon a point of policy difference which was so obviously going to split an alliance, just very odd politicking.

I would suspect it wil now be a lurch away from progressive stuff to fight toe to toe on ground that didn’t need fighting over.

No it really doesn’t, there is no middle ground here. There’s no sort of, you can’t be sort of black or sort of French. You either are or you aren’t. Israeli provocateur implies he was undertaking his actions at the behest of the state of Israel. There is literally no evidence of this. So he should be regarded as a Jewish rights campaigner until such times as actual evidence exists

To say what Jareth says is actually giving this arsehole what he wants

mmmm, yes and no, the one drop of black blood debate isn’t really one for this thread, I’ll steer clear of that. But yes I concede that using the same security personnel (from a company set up by ex mossad people) that the Israeli politicians have used when they’ve visited the UK does not make him in any way have any connection with official Israeli politics.

An Israeli provocateur or a Jewish rights campaigner?
Not understanding the difference is anti-Semitic

Do you have any evidence linking the Campaign Against Antisemitism to the Israeli Government?
Gideon Falter is an arsehole but you have zero evidence to call him an Israeli Provocateur

You keep conflating Israel with Jew, you really should stop doing that

I believe at the time, the man next to Falter was identified as having been the security adviser at a number of official Israeli appointments in the U.K. His name was issued along with photos of him at multiple venues and events.

That doesn’t ‘prove’ anything. But as ever, it places the truth somewhere in the middle.

  7. Found the Vanilla Fudge album today and got all excited, but it was £25 and looked a bit tired. So I did the grown up thing and put it back.

Then found this, sat there looking like a new record for £12 and I’d been after having something by Billy Childish for an age, so all in all, happy.

  8. How can he be going to prison? If he is, doesn’t that make life slightly awkward for the enablers like ourselves that support him and prop him up?

Or is our defence we didn’t know he used our backing as cover for genocide?

What’s worse than going to see Jane McDonald? Going to see Jane McDonald in Blackpool. I doubt Chris can beat that.

Jane McDonald would be grounds for divorce

Yeah, I think he’s got me there.

I did see Brian May at an ice rink, which had the acoustics of an ice rink. Saw Beverly Craven, or to be more precise, her feet, and a piano lid. The support for that one was a lecture on toxic shock syndrome and a goody bag of tampax.

But yeah, I think he’s beat me.

  10. Watched season 5 of Fargo and it was a real return to form, did everything I want Fargo to do.

So, considering that season 4 had left me a bit meh and I hadn’t made it past the first couple, I’ve given it another go.

It’s ok, perhaps on its own I’d even think it was good. But lined up against everything else branded Fargo, it’s the poor relation.

One for the confessions thread. A few months back I had a very similar conversation with my wife. Now it seems we have tickets to see Jane McDonald in blackpool later this year.

We fight like brothers, my man.

  12. My other half has been wanting to go to a Jane McDonald concert. I’ve been very positively encouraging her. My standard speech on ‘music is music’ and how I bet it will actually be a good night with audience interaction, anecdotes and rollicking good crowd pleasing songs.

I think I’ve just realised she means both of us.

I’m literally sat here now strategising how I stay sounding super super positive and then come up with the thought hey! This could be more of a friends / book group kinda thing.

    On a similar topic.....

You can't kill ants in a microwave oven if you remove the rotating plate.

They are small enough to walk between the microwaves.

    Gerbils aren't............

Well, I'm **** now working out which wildlife I can put in the microwave if I don't know how to cook crispy pancakes and wedges at the same time

Field research, when I worked in a posh restaurant, the smallest thing we killed in a microwave was a wasp.
