  1. 5-6 which I think I went with originally and up to very. We've some more of the Sky Sports favourites to play, which I think will probably inform us where our season will truly end up. Looking forward to playing Citeh and Arsenal. They'll be great gauges beyond our own optimism.

  2. Top bloke, had the season of his life last year, understands Emery-ball incredibly well, to watch him celebrate those offsides so hardcore tells you his belief in the system at large.

Genuinely hope this is just a case of get 'er done, heal, mend and it is less like the Martin Laursen injury saga. I feel like we have pish poor luck when it comes to center halves and their knees (hello to you Mr. P McGrath)

I’m surprised that some posters don’t rate Emi and don’t think he’d be a regular starter for us this season.

Even when he’s not totally on his game he’s an all action, in-your-face terrier of a player, who must be a horrible little shit of a player to play against. His effort and work rate are immense. He brings so much to the team and in my opinion will be a massive loss.

We’re better placed now than we have been for years to manage with the loss of such a key player, but it’s still a huge blow and for me too, it has put a dampener on my pre-season optimism.

100%. He gets pelters at times but he covers a gelluva lotta ground and fills in a lot of the spaces that get over looked. He would have been central to this season's Emery side.

  4. From this I see us being set up so well for a run at the Conference League. There is so much extra space and time in Europe. I'm not sure if our form of press will translate against every team in the PL but in Europe we will be laughably effective. It felt like the dress rehearsal for Europe. Repeat that against Valencia and we can really talk.

  5. He went missing a lot under Rogers at Leicester, I don't think Unai gives him a chance to do so and, with the players around him having that hunger that waned at Leicester, this is set up perfectly for a signing of the season.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. I think Youri is a case in point.

We're knocking on the door as we speak.

Foot is in the door. If we went into last season as we do this one, we'd have nailed that CL spot. Chelsea and Liverpool will be back, Spurs stronger. The challenge is exciting. Bring it.

My first thought. Probably not quite match ready yet.

Match fit for preseason though? It's not really a thing. Providing you're not hobbling or carrying a niggle, you make the bench.

  8. It's refreshing to be on the buying side of a bit of a transfer saga.

We might need a Villa Only Fans account we're so tight at the back.

Oh ffs, can't do your own research?

    Fine.

Straight from the horse's mouth - don't blame me if you can't interpret the data

    Bravo sir, bravo.

  10. A fit and firing Coutinho would be amazing, it's not clear he can get near the levels required but, much the same as the misgivings some (not me) have around Bailey and Buendia, in Emery we trust.

If you'd have offered me Monchi or Alemany for this position.

Without a doubt, I'd be choosing Monchi 100 times out of 100.

    Every. Single. Time.

    A great hire.

Most criticism of him seems to be "he's only performed well at Sevilla", although to be fair he's done an astounding job there.

He says he's learned a huge amount from his time at Roma, so I'd posit he wants to take care of some Unfinished Monchi Business.

Roma was a free hit and any criticism based on that is to do him a disservice, Emery hardly lit the world alight in Paris either. Only performing well in Seville is the talk of people who literally can't see beyond the Premier League. Sevilla are one of the most successful club in European football, particularly in the last decade.
