  1. Hi General,

I too have to register my concern with the issue of Porstmouth away tickets in the cup going on sale to those who travelled to Sunderland, regardless of previous away history and/or season ticket, before regular away travellers who couldn't make the Sunderland game, like myself.

Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic gesture by the club of which I am immensely proud. Unfortunately, on this occasion I wasn't able to take advantage of it.

As has already been said on the thread in the main forum, we may be making a fuss about nothing, because chances are we will all get our tickets, but it really is a matter of principle.

  2. Stephen Warnock has had the yellow card he picked up against Everton at the weekend rescinded.

Members of the FA's Disciplinary Committee ruled that it was a case of mistaken identity.

The caution will now be removed from the defender's record and placed on that of Stiliyan Petrov instead.

Petrov is now on four cautions while Warnock remains on three.

  3. Martin O'Neill faces a selection headache ahead of the West Ham game with Habib Beye and Luke Young both pushing for a start as a result of Carlos Cuellar's suspension.

The Villa boss must shuffle his pack as a result of the Spaniard's dismissal against Everton.

MON said: "We have to make at least one enforced change this week with Carlos missing.

"But the idea of having the squad is precisely for these reasons. We have players in the background at this minute who are more than capable of coming through and who are tried and trusted Premier League players.

"I know their ability and know what they are capable of doing for us.

"Luke had a great, great season for us. He was injured at the start of this campaign. It took an endless amount of time before he was fit and then, of course, he was hit with his family tragedy.

    Spore

"He has had a lot to cope with. But I think he is there now - he's been in the squad on a few occasions.

"At the time, we didn't know how long he'd be out for and we took Habib on. He has not complained about not playing and yet I would consider him unlucky not to be in the starting line-up, having played so wonderfully well when we beat Liverpool."

  4. Just a little extra info...

    * The Villa boss also confirmed Stephen Warnock looks set to see his booking against the Toffees rescinded after referee Lee Probert accepted he got the wrong man when he issued the yellow card in the first half. Stiliyan Petrov will, therefore, have a yellow card added to his disciplinary record. The decision of the Disciplinary Committee takes place at 1pm today.

  5. That really winds me up.

And also the way they bloody use a white ball when there is snow on the pitch :bang:

That is my biggest annoyance too. Can't believe that made it through testing.

    Agreed.

The other night I played a head to head as Villa and my oppo was Chelsea. There was snow all over the pitch, it was a white ball, and Chelsea were playing in all white! Still won 1 - 0, mind :winkold:

  6. Are we not appealing the Warnock booking then?

It looks that way. To be honest, it's probably a calculated decision because if it were transferred to Petrov, he'd then be on 4 yellows himself. Being captain, MON will see him as being more crucial to the side than Warnock so if he has to choose who gets it, I guess it would be the latter.

EDIT: You already picked up on this earlier in the thread!

  7. Martin O'Neill believes it's a "strange" situation when you can contest a red card but not two yellows.

And the Villa boss hopes the anomaly in the rules can be "addressed in the foreseeable future."

MON was referring to the case where Villa can't contest Carlos Cuellar's innocence, despite two dubious yellow cards, yet Everton do have a right of appeal against a straight red shown to their goalscorer Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

The gaffer said: "We can't contest it. The replays show Carlos has been severely dealt with, considering he got the ball with the second one and with the first one it's an impossibility for him to get out of the way. He's made no attempt to stop the player - he's tried to stop himself.

"I just feel he's really unfortunate. There were quite a few red cards over the weekend - some were warranted and some were not.

"It's a strange rule. That's something that could be addressed in the foreseeable future.

"Carlos received two yellow cards and you'd say there is a great deal of doubt about both of them. The consequence is he receives a red card and we can't appeal that. Yet someone who has been sent off for violent conduct has the opportunity to appeal.

"I am not against anyone appealing anything but I think if someone gets a red card as a consequence of two yellows, I think that is enough for a club to ask for some referrals.

"Then TV evidence would come into play and I think that would clear it for Carlos on both counts.

"I have been pretty impressed with the work of the LMA (League Managers Association) - they have made some serious inroads into things we have asked for and I think they have done exceptionally well fighting our cause.

"I am quite sure that is something we would be looking at in the next meeting. It's definitely worth looking at.

"I believe the referees themselves shouldn't take it too much to heart because I think the job nowadays is really, really difficult."

  8. basically, she was really really dumb, and couldn't do the job.

in HR talk, she was incapable of completing the job at the required level.

Technically, we didn't fire here, we gave her a choice:

    1) either voluntarily leave the company immeditiately (we'd pay her the full months salary).

    2) we would terminate her

    That's a bit harsh.

not really. I thought we were too soft actually.

We spent 6 months re-training her, sending her on courses, but nothing stuck in her brain.

The job entails working on Excel about 80% of the time, yet she couldn't even 'sort' a list of figures, or link one cell from one sheet onto another sheet. In her interview, she said she could do pivot tables, Vlookups, etc.

Its obvious she lied about her technical ability.

The role expected her to have technical ability before she started the job, which she didn't have. I should have dismissed her during the 6 months probation, but i wanted to give her as many chances as possible, hoping she'd improve. a year later she was still at the rubbish level she started at, so she had to go.

Erm, I think you missed my selective quoting! :P

  10. i'm busy at work... i fired my assistant a couple of weeks ago, and so until i get a new person in, i have lots of work to do.

Why did you fire her? What did she do? (Or not do as the case may be...)

basically, she was really really dumb, and couldn't do the job.

    * Switched from Stephen Warnock on appeal - mistaken identity

5 yellows = banned immediately for 1 game. This ban for accumulation of yellows only applies for cards picked up by 31st December.

10 yellows = banned immediately for 2 games. This ban for accumulation of yellows only applies for cards picked up by second sunday in April.

15 yellows = banned immediately for 3 games. This ban for accumulation of yellows applies all season.

Red Card = banned immediately, usually for 1 game although it can be 2 games (using offensive or insulting or abusive language/gestures) or 3 games (Violent Conduct, Serious Foul Play or spitting at an opponent or any other person). All these bans are increased by 1 further game if it is a second red within one season, or by two extra games if it is a third red etc.

Sent off for 2 yellows = a red card and you are banned accordingly. These yellows do NOT count for accumulation of yellows purposes.

  12. Good game first half v Citeh actually. SHA came out all guns blazing first 15 mins but as usual didn't score and Citeh came back into it.

Barry getting plenty of abuse, thought they might have cheered him for leaving us!!!

Don't know what result I want, if Citeh get anything we'll have to beat West Ham to go 4th on Wednesday. If SHA win we would only need a draw....but I don't think I can bring myself to wanting them to win.

  13. Technically Cuellar's suspension won't take effect until next week will it - so he will be eligible to play and miss the following match instead I would have thought.

I thought they'd scrapped that one and now suspensions just count for the next game. Hopefully you're right as I think the less players we have to change per game the better off we'll be.

Suspensions for red cards (even if for 2 yellows) are immediate. Yellow card suspensions don't start until 7 days after the 5th/10th/15th booking.

  14. Just realised that now Blackburn have beaten Burnley, if Hull get anything out of their game at home to Fulham tomorrow night, SHA will be in the relegation zone. :P

EDIT: actually, it depends on whether Fulham score or not as they're all on 7 points at the moment. Here's hoping for a draw or Hull win with Fulham scoring.
