  1. perhaps the questions that are put to the general should be supervised more closely by moderators? i think the general acted a little bit amateurishley to be honest and it was out of character with how he has been the rest of the time on here. that said - there has never been a situation like the current one for him to deal with. personally i dont think that he should stop coming on here because it is a great forum for exchanges of opinion and hopefully both he and villatalk in general can learn from this blip.
  2. i believe the club have previously said that they dont want someone who is already employed at another club, therefore there is no-one they would be interested in who wouldnt be available for an interview. General denied that yesterday, said it was paper talk, even though the paper talk was based on something he said himself... oh... we havent really got a **** clue whats going on have we??? ah well, at least its something to talk about instead of nrc... (especially on a saturday when there is no footy OR cricket on!) Maybe he changed his tune because we are close to getting someone whos already in a job? hmmmm... the thick plottens...
  3. i said luke young is a better player at rb than cuellar is at CENTRE HALF. ie young is an 8/10 player at rb and cuellar is a 7/10 at centre half - so who do you pick? changing a formation to accomodate your players is a different thing entirely and it wasnt what we did to get cuellar on the pitch.

  6. Of course he finished top 4, he was managing Liverpool but that season he finished 7 points off the top, he wasn't in charge, Thompson was, Houllier was ill that season bit daft of them to eventually replace him with benitez wasnt it when thompson could have done the job?
  7. not saying you are wrong at all, but at some point we have got to make our choice. we cant have young and exciting as well as proven and experienced. we cant criticise mon for only ever buying average solid players from england and then complain about a manager with a reputation for taking gambles on unknowns from abroad. in fairness to houllier, the pressure on him at liverpool was a lot higher than it will be at villa. he was scared of losing becasue despite having finished second in the league and winning a bag full of cups he was still being criticised because they hadnt won the league. I believe that Houllier has the experience and the contacts to do some kind of a job at Villa. My concerns are purely personal as I like to watch reasonably entertaining football and I hope to see our youth brought through as and when they are ready. I know that my point of view is not necessarily a winning formula, but I would love to see what our current crop of players could achieve with a couple of seasons of really positive leadership and some quality coaching. i totally agree with you but unfortunately it would be a risk. our current squad under the leadership of say big ron of 20 years ago (or even kevin keegan) would great to see but it may also fail. he wouldnt get much slack in my opinion because he would be taking a squad that has consistently finished sixth and beaten every team in the league in the last three years, so anything lower than that would be considered a failure by many even if it was entertaining. when you mention houllier as being able to do a job and having good contacts etc i think that in many ways that probably points to why him being a dof may be a good idea. i also wonder if he is now maybe getting on a bit having been away from club management for a few years to be able to get back into it again. most of his work now is higher up the ladder with the french fff.
  8. His flop percentage was far far far higher than MON's. players wise maybe but not with money spent. Some would call the likes of davies, NRC, sidwell, shorey, heskey, downing, Carson, harewood, bêye, routladge all flops, most expensive too. I suspect with inflation Houllier spent a hell more on flops; Diao, Cheroyu, Diof, Biscan, Sjouland, Song, Camara, Smicer, Diomede. These are often players so obscure one forgets totally about them. Yes he signed a few gems, but it was definitely more of a mixed bag. he probably did, but he also won a fook of a lot more with them.
  9. sorry i disagree with you. in my opinion luke young is a far better right back than cuellar is centre half. cuellar is a decent enough player but not an outstanding one plus i think we play enough games in a season for us to be able to use three centre halves and keep them all happy. i dont expect to see adebayor playing in midfield for man city this season just because he is too good to not have on the pitch and tevez and balotelli are too good to be on the bench.

  11. well unless we get mourinho i dont see who we can bring in that you cant find a good argument against anyway if you wanted to. (i suppose someone would say that even he is only a chequebook manager!)
  12. eh? the media wrong? you mean there isnt a london bus on the moon?
  13. If anything Collins is better on the ball. Cuellar has a gash touch. collins is arguably one of the best passers of the ball in the side! last season he pinged the ball around loads of times very acurately.
  14. houllier fits the criteria and we could do a lot worse. staunton i really hope we dont approach. i didnt like him as a player after the first couple of seasons and that second stint really showed him up to be a selfish and argumentitive dick. never before or since have i seen a back five argue so much amongst themselves on the pitch as when he was in the middle of it.
  15. he also is playing for a temporary manager who has never managed in the premier league before. (not a dig about kmac at all, but he has been signed bya club who dont know who will be managing the team next week.)
  16. what a load of toss. th point is we ARENT trying to appoint some other teams reserve team coach, we are (maybe) promoting from within a man who has 15 years of experience at the club and already knows the squad. i dont suppose anyone would have been particularly inspired at the time when bob paisley, joe fagan or roy evans were appointed liverpool manager either but...
  17. And you have picked that up from 4 games?!?! Give over! seems to have a whole lot more tactical awareness than certain managers we have had.
  18. i really dont get why anyone is saying anything negative about kmac. ok, if you think the club are dragging their feet over the appointment or whatever then fair enough - criticse them, but macdonald is pure villa. he is doing his best and a lot of the current players are saying he should get the job as are a lot of past players (dion dublins turn today on the radio). he will inevitably make mistakes but any manager does. if wenger drops a b0ll0ck with his selection then no-one will say its because he doesnt have the required experience to manage a team. mon made a whole lot more glaring errors of judgement than you would expect of a seasoned manager and yet kept the majority of supporters behind him so i really dont understand the mentality of people saying that appointing kmac will be a disaster.
  19. why? i'm not saying you arent allowed to think it but i cant think of many people who i'd like less.
  20. mcclaren only changed clubs about three weeks ago.
  21. Very true. It also sounds like some one not already employeed as a club manager, imo. If a person is already employeed as a manager their sole focus is their own team. Thinking about how to plan for another team seems out of range for someone already doing that planning for their own side. Take Hughes for instances, can he really discuss Villa personnel and the future of Villa when he's in a learning curve regarding his own personnel at Fulham? Frankly, The club statement has left me with more questions rather than offering any type of answer. Good news is, seems that it will all be decided in a week or two. Well at least for this season. it sounds like you are trying to work out who the mystery man is that the club have chosen - whereas in actual fact the club dont have anyone concrete in mind yet and are just reassuring the fans that they are looking for someone and not sat on their @rses doing nothing.
  22. agreed. i think if you are basing it on what the club have said then the criteria are: prem experience, and a willingness to continue taking the club in its current direction - and that means with a certain level of financial constraint and a priority on bringing players through from the academy. it can only be moyes... Randy and Moyes shared a very warm handshake in the players area prior to the match, caught on camera. Not suggesting this has bog all to do with anything mind haha!! you may as well suggest it - if you dont the mirror or sun will in the morning!!!
