  1. We desperately need a decent and reliable replacement for Sanchez. He just doesn't isn't good enough for this league imo.

Veretout & Gueye are new to the League so deserve this season before being completely written off. Westwood has performed solidly and admirably, play him in the right games with the right players and he is more than good enough for our squad. Gardener-gutted for the had but it seems injuries have robbed him of his chance.

Im not up to date with the current football manager so can't pluck a name out of head for a realistic DM but surely there has to someone who is an upgrade on Sanchez who is obtainable?

  2. I wonder how many games he will play before he gets written off for a second time and people shout we should of signed a decent LB in January. I predict 2-3 games unless he has morphed into Roberto Carlos whilst being in the Porto reserves.

Glad to have him back as an option over Richardson.

  3. Nick Powell anyone? He's s  Villa fan, he only has 6 months left on his contract so should be cheap. He had a touch of class about him at Crewe, lost his way at UTD. He just needs to (apparently) sort out his work ethic/attitude and get over his injuries. I'd say he is worth a punt though and If we do go down a handy player to have next year in the championship or whatever they are calling it this season.

Aston Villa to back manager Remi Garde in January transfer window

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has been told he will be given any backing he needs in the transfer window.

The 49-year-old Frenchman last month replaced Tim Sherwood at Villa, who are six points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table after 16 matches.

"If he decides he needs something he has the chairman's ear and his support," said chief executive Tom Fox.

"Remi has only been here five games. My job is to assist him when he decides there is something he might need."

Villa signed 13 players in the summer, with Sherwood, Fox, sporting director Hendrik Almstadt and director of scouting Paddy Riley all involved in the recruitment.

The club have gone 15 league games without a win, the worst run in their history.

Fox, who flew with Garde to meet owner Randy Lerner in America this week, told BBC WM: "People who are critical of the process I don't think quite understand how football clubs buy and sell players.

"We didn't do anything this summer that any other club in the world doesn't do.

"We identified the needs our manager thought he had - we challenged some of those, which led to great discussion - and we tried to create a list of acceptable options, in the event your first choice wasn't available you had other people you could target.

"There was never a sense there was a group of people who were trying to make decisions that weren't supported fully by the coaching staff."

  5. Tin hat on. Given our position I'd take him on loan (unless there is a better option available obviously)  Quick, direct, knows the league, point to prove to Woy plus has experience of relegation battle with QPR.

but thats the problem we need 4 players in January to even have a chance of staying up and by the time they gel we will be cut further adrift. FWIW I think we can get by with Guzan until summer but other 3 need be acted on

I agree about Guzan, but we were linked again with PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu again today. Intrigued about the possible signing of Cole as a stop gap whilst recalling one of Bennett or cissokho getting rid of Richardson. Recall Senderos to the squad. Townsend is a good loan option given our position and he knows the league and then a striker.

It means not spending ridiculous amounts of money gambling on targeting survival ala QPR. The last thing we need is another Darren Bent moment. I'm happy to use the rest of the season to look at the other players and plan accordingly for next season in the championship.

Erm I completely disagree.  A Darren Bent proven goal scorer is exactly what we need to stand a chance of staying up.  I'm still not defeated and believe with the right signings we will stand a great chance of staying up. Just need a GK LB midfielder & striker.

  8. Didn't he take a pay cut in exchange for a 4 year contract.

(I may be making this up) but I thought his £65 grand a week 2 year contract was replaced by a £32.5 grand a week 4 year contract with bonuses ??

Don't rate Gabby or particularly like him but I think it was good business by the club protecting an asset with a contract extension. However shit he is, he is a shit player on a 3 and a bit year contract as opposed to 18 months so hopefully can squeeze a few more pennies out of whatever sucker wants him.

Can see him as a Pulis signing. Offer 12 million plus Gabby & Clark with extra bonuses for Berahino. That would be the perfect start to the new year ( aint gunna happen I know)

Starsport understands Manchester United will have to fend off competition from arch-rivals Manchester City who are willing to splash £30m to secure his services.

I know it's the star but they state the source is Anderlecht online. Still it's worth a laugh

Edit: we were probably looking at Praet not Tielemans and the press don't know shit.

I would have liked to have seen us strongly linked with making the odd signing or three by now. Players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Steven Naismith, Andros Townsend, Benik Afobe, Tom Heaton and Rico Henry for example may be available to buy/loan early next month. We need to do any such deals without delay but there does not appear to be much if any activity on the transfer front at B6 to me

To be fair you never hear much from villa full stop, I actually like the way we go about our transfer  business in a quiet and discrete fashion. The first your usually hear is when the we are close to a deal.

I agree with the players you suggested. I like the sound of the kid from Walsall, unsure over Naismith's due to how much he would likely cost given he is 29 and would rather replace Sanchez with the $$$ it would take to prise him from the toffees.

Glad to see he is being given another run out rather than being benched as I'm my view it's the only way he will adjust (or not) to the league and build confidence.  Only after an extended run of games can a measured judgement of his ability be made.

Signing all that lower league crap in the Lambert era seriously f#cked us up, and I blame that totally on Lerner. He sets the wage budget and that budget dictates the quality of player we can attract more so than transfer fees.

Thats why we have a squad packed out with rubbish, and why we're rooted firmly at the foot of the league.

Lerner set the budgets based on what we can spend due to income vs losses. Yes he is culpable but I really don't understand how people can't grasp how it needed to be done, we couldn't sustain our losses.

WBA wages to income ratio is the worst in the league just like ours was.  Like him or hate Fox with his commercial background will have a proper grip on our finances so that should never happen again. And we will be in a healthier position moving forward.

We have a fickle fan base who rightly or wrongly started to desert us when things got ropey. Due to poor signings by managers the product wasn't entertaining and good enough = reduced Tv money due to our league placings. Crowds dwindled. And If peeps decide to buy the top from sports direct rather than the club they lose out and Mike Ashley gains. Randy is to blame for appointing the wrong mananger(s) and rightly or wrongly leaving them to sign whom they saw fit. But we just had to cutback our spending due to the FFP and EFP (?) rules he voted against and correct past mistakes.

Just for the record I would like him to sell us and am not defending all that he has done wrong which is plenty. But I see what needed to be done to stay solvent.
