We're two seasons into Happy Valley. Some good acting -- almost too good, at times. Wife can't stand the Jake Bugg theme song, and I laugh at times at the plot absurdities and melodrama, but it's still been enjoyable for us (a couple of overeducated and generally Anglophilic Americans in our 50s).

Do not watch the final season.  Utter garbage.  2/10.

  2. Not seeing many Russian tanks at the moment,  almost none.

They are either holding some back or are running out.  I think running out now,  they need maintenance, fuel, crew and ammo to be supplied all the time at the right place.  Russia can hardly do any of this currently,  I think their logistics and ammo is short at the moment.

  3. US Dollar / Russian Ruble
Something is going on this week for sure.
    26/06/2022 - 50 Ruble for 1 Dollar

    07/07/2023 - 92 Ruble for 1 Dollar

Went from 80 to 92 in last 30 days and has lost already today a tiny bit.

    - This is bad for Russia as it shows their economy is slowly losing grip.

    - They were propping it up a bit last year and earlier this year but I genuinely think they are running out of money now.

    - They have got loads of India Rupees in their bank from selling stuff to India,  but nowhere to spend it as its not really traded.

    - Most of their trades are no is Chinees or Indian currency.  It slowly eats the Ruble strength as its used less and less.

    - Price for Oil / gas they are getting is not far above cost now.

    - Russia is only down 150-250 M a day overall on the Oil / gas stuff BUT the volume sold to achieve almost the same revenue is vastly increased and some of it is now sea travel as oppose to a pipe.

What if they die because nobody packed the AA batteries?

It's all about redundancies.  Planes are a good example,  like that but better.  In a plane,  at least you can glide for a bit.  That deep,  any mistake and its all over.

Apparently the hatch can't be opened from inside. The reason for that is because apparently if you had a proper hatch that could in theory open then it would present a massive weakness in the structure of the submersible and would likely be a point of failure as it weakened over time.

Don't know if it's true but it sounds plausible.

That is 100% true.  There are 17 bolts on the outside that need to be unscrewed before you can exit the vehicle.

This seems an odd choice as this is was the problem with Apollo 1 (Oxygen rich with no immediate escape route and they were bolted in for a test only so all you need is a spark)

The Wireless controller is also a worry,  why have wireless and what are all the backups to control ? (Extra controllers / batteries)

96 hours,  how do they know how it performs with 5 people in it.  (Never tested)

It is only tested to 3,000 meters,  not 4,000.

Apart from that,  looks great 🤔

Opening 2 episodes of Silo were quite promising. Not read the books but they are apparently good so hopefully Apple have not bungled this.

The books are really good,  I only saw the trailer so far for the tv series but they have nailed the look,  its exactly how I imagined it.

Just wait for the straight, press the over take button, job done.

It's awful and not a solution to anything.  It just devalues an overtake,  I mean anyone can press a button.

Without overtakes of value and all the other problems you mentioned I just don't see an entertainment or sporting value to the circus.  Without them,  what is it ?

This season has been so incredibly boring so far

I have hardly watched it at all this season.

They are technically races I suppose but when people can start well down the grid and go past everyone to the front.

In your mind for the next race,  change Verstappen's Red Bull to a white Beatle and we are in Herbie goes Bananas territory.  Forget about commentary,  add film chase music.  It's bolox and they must know it.

Almost every single race..."We are starting so far back we can never win from here"

"We'll see about that,  right Herbie?"

True, which is why the tory rural nimbys are in the long term weakening their position. That is what Simon Clarke, head of leveling up for about 5 minutes, said in the house a few months back. However, we also have a demographic time bomb which will result in a massively ageing population. This could get even worse if migrants coming for work decide Britain isn't worth going to.

An imbalance in the Demographics will eventually kill any economy no matter how well its run.  As you said there is a time bomb but I think this is true for most of the developed word.

The UK seems to be about average compared to other similar countries,

    Russia on the other hand.

They have approx 50M under the age of 35 from a population of 143 M so very top heavy.  (This is not counting the war).  They will have massive problems that can't be fixed.
