  1. Point is, you can't really force a player to accept a transfer away, he can always stay and keep collecting his current contract. However, if he willingly leaves and doesn't ask for the difference prior to it, there'd be no way he'd be entitled to compensation as his contract with club a was voided when he signed with the new club.

Edit: I meant to put this in previous post

Edit #2: Why didn't I just edit it into the previous post after the fact you ask? I don't know, I need sleep, we all need sleep, try to get more sleep tomorrow villatalkers

  2. I always though transfers worked this way: Club a agrees fee with club b to negotiate with the player. If the player doesn't want to leave, he can stay and continue to be paid and collect his wages at the current club while playing for the, and club b doesn't have to pay a fee. If however, club b offers the player less money, he can then tell his current club, "I won't leave unless you pay part of the contract to make up the difference." If he decides to leave and doesn't do that, then he's not entitled to the old contract because he signed a new one with a different club. However, very few players willingly take wage cuts so club a usually agrees to pay the difference to get the player off the books.

  3. You lot should consider yourselves lucky. If I owned the club I would have used the club itself as collateral to get debt to buy it for me (ie: do a glazers) then be playing entirely youth/free transfer players and pocketing the parachute money to make my massive monies profits. After that I had milked the club dry and we were sitting pretty in league one I would generously offer a transfer budget of a few million quid to get us promoted again and then sell its tired ass to some chump for even more lovely cash.

This attitude is possibly why I do not own a football club..... although Venkys do....

I was reading this and was going to bring up Venkys until I realized you said it. Rovers really are the laughingstock of football now, aren't we?  :( (If Villatalk had a crying emoticon I would've used that.

  4. Michael Appleton would be a good shout as a defensive coach. Total shit as a manager but Rovers went something like nine hours from open play without conceding during his tenure. Also won at Arsenal.

Edit: So long as you'd be fine with a former baggy

  5. Why all the Crouch dissing? I think he was a cracking player in his prime and if Helenius becomes that good (in his own different way) I would be delghted.

I agree there's a reason he played for some big teams.

  6. Definitely can't underestimate that Lambert loves a target man, and Villa wouldn't really have anyone if Benteke got hurt. Lambert is also a huge fan of guys that are more versatile and contribute to more facets of play, (Benteke over Bent, Guzan over Given, etc.) and from what I've read Helenius seems like a guy that contributes a lot to the buildup.

I'm sure that got posted on here already but the dribbling is very impressive. Obviously just youtube though. And 3:52 had that happened in the prem would've been lauded as one of the goals of the year.

Only 40 goals in 100 games, but he seems a bit like Tugay in that when he does score, it's quite spectacular

  7. I think ultimately Lerner's well intentioned as an owner and cares, so if that's true, eventually things will go right. For instance, I think he understood that he doesn't know soccer/football, so he decided he'd give his manager control, a reasonable decision and one that he'd get ripped for not making. It's not his fault that MON was awful in the signing of players. The only thing that really jumps out as bad to me is Mcleish, as I have no clue what he was thinking.

    You're a Blackburn supporter right?

Finally a non-Villa fan who gets it. Much appreciated.

Didn't see this till now, but yes I'm a Blackburn supporter, however I live in America so I could only see like 6 of their games this year cause none are on, so I followed villa and rovers cause I love lamberts approach

  8. His unwavering belief that his team of kids was good enough to stay up without resorting to playing for draws, without resorting to bringing in experienced PL players on loan etc showed real strength of character and stubborness that you could liken to Ferguson or Wenger. I think it's starting to rub of on the players too.

Playing for draws isn't a mathematically sound strategy either. Something Lambert seems to get. 1 point is fairly inconsiquential and three is so much more valuable.

That has to be one of the biggest things that won me over on Lambert. He doesn't play for a fecking draw and lots of the time will not have the side sit back defending 1 nil leads for 80 minutes like another former manager did. The only match where I think we set up for a draw was QPR away and reflecting on it, that was one match where a loss would have been very very bad, so it was fine by me.

A direct rival in the table would be the only time playing for a draw makes sense as you deny them two points. Lamberts seems smarter and smarter the more I think about itf2f

  9. Also Mon was an unmitigated disaster, regardless of finishes. His tenure drained the squad of so much value its taken lamberts genius to get the club going in the right direction

  11. Reminds me of that scene in Moneyball when all the old guys are shaking their heads when Billy Beene and the guy form Superbad unveil all their proposed signings for the summer.

Haha well Lambert is running a moneyball type operation

  12. That's alright Morpheus. One of my favourite quotes is "When the facts change, I change my opinion, what do you do?". If you can see a better Villa future at this point than you saw at Christmas then there's no shame in turning that frown upside down :D

I do not know if Keynes ever actually said this, but I always attribute it to him in my Economics classes. Such a great quote.

Keynes was such a genius. Too bad his ideas have been misconstrued, twisted and ignored recently, otherwise the world's economy would be in a far better place.

Back to Lambert, not only is he doing very well right now, I doubt he'd leave if a bigger club came for him

  13. Just got Walsall to the Prem :)

Suggestions for the following would be welcome:

    CB

    CM (Defensive)

Striker - preferably one that is strong in a support role

Jason Lowe from Blackburns strangely good. Always gets insane match ratings. Only issue is he'll get booked 10+ times and in my villa save he got sent off 4 times for rovers after they were promoted

  14. Samba was literally the only guy that stopped benteke in the air this season.

Exactly and he's a huge weapon off set pieces. He wasn't fit when he came back from Russia and clearly wasn't worth the price, but I feel he's a lot better than people give credit for

  15. If we could pull this signing off we really could be a force next year.

A force in like finishing 10th? Any higher than that would be extremely difficult with the squad we have right now. Don't forget that the likes of Fulham are going to sign players as well, and odds are they will be signing players with more experience that will take the league easier.
Any money you like says we finish higher than 10th next season, with or without Belhanda.

It's pointless worrying about what other clubs are doing. Remember how many of us were quaking in our boots last year looking at QPR's signings!

They bought Samba for huge bucks and we bought a 'nobody' from Claremont Foot.

Hmmm... I'll take the nobody thank you very much.

Tbf Samba was pretty good minus a couple games and surely couldve helped our defense. I think they're bigger problems were last summer

For 100,000 per week? You are having a laugh.

Samba was supposed to have experience. I ( and Lambert agrees ) say **** experience.

Oh I agree not at that wage. And I don't value experience at all. But he is a very good center back and is almost unbeatable in the air

  17. RVP's wasn't necessary though, that's one of the reasons Lowtons was better. Lowton had two defenders quickly closing him down and had to hit it right away, whereas RVP was in acres of space and probably could've taken a touch.
