I was confident about this until oday but no Gabby or Ash has taken that optimism away somewhat.
-
Ridiculous not to. I couldn't stand at thr moment but would definitely want the option when fit. To vote not togive people the option (no-one's forcing anyone to stand) is just.... odd.
-
Mike Ashley is fast replacing Ross Noble as my favourite NE based comedian
-
No 'unsure' option so I went with yes. Mainly as there's no better options. Jol won't come.
Not sure what anyone could do with a squad this thin.
-
awful but could have been so much worse.
Has Carlos shot Houllier's dog or something?
-
Bit surprised that Marc is playing in all honesty.
And me, delighted though. Shame about Cuellar. Looking at the teams anything less than a point will be a disappointment. 1-1 I reckon.
-
I've done s trip and it was good. Got to think about driving the next day if you're going to drink a lot though...

Well after the scenes at the end if the FA/Police/Council don't take action it's an absolute farce. Persistent standing compared to throwing flares at people?!
-
Surpridingly hsppy do far for s miserable bunch :winkold: I like it. Some people are only happy when they're moaning eh?!
-
Well big Dave wants to know, so I thought I'd see how happy we are on here. Id say six myself, which isn't too bad as my left arm and leg don't work too well. I'd guess six will be about average.
Overall on life this is, not today specifically.

Good 2nd half, didn't deserve a draw though. What's up with Luke Young. I'm usually z big fan but he wasabysmal today, Clark for MOTM obviously.
-
Can someone tell me what Hogg's best position is? Is he just filling in there as Clark was or is that his strongest position. Sorry if someone nswered this earlier, I had a look for a reply but couldn't see one.

Tthr tune of sing hosanna
Rooobert Pires
Rooobert Pires
Robert Pires running down the wing
etc
etc
(Possibly "king of wings" but that sounds a bit rubbish

Not good enough other than the earlly part of the second half. Would really struggle to pick an MOTM out of that. Gone with Ashley Young for hitting the bar and doing one or two other half decent things. Didn't exactly stand out though, but no-one did.
Sirprised to see Luke Young getting some votes. Although he overlapped reasonably well overall that was one of the worst games I've seen him have for us.
Never thought I'd be saying this at the start of the season but: But we need Heskey and Reo-Coker back asap.
aAlso can someone tell me iv Hogg is a natural central midfielder or is he being played out of position there like Clark was? Cheers.

To the tune of I wanna go home
Robert pires,
Robert Pireeeeees
He's up there with,
Up there with George Beeeest

we need a song for DJ Downing he was utter class today
At a very quick attempt:
Stewart Downing's magic, he wear a magic hat,
And when we get a freekick, he says I'm having that,
He scores em with his left foot, he scores em with his right,
Will someone tell Capello this kid is dynamite

More praise. This time from the Daily MailHere:
A star is born! Barry Bannan stakes his claim with a dynamic debut in the dark blueBy John Greechan Last updated at 12:57 AM on 17th November 2010

Craig Levein last night hailed debut boy Barry Bannan as the future of Scottish football. Following a comfortable 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie, which saw Bannan's fellow debutant Danny Wilson score the opener, a thrilled Levein picked out Aston Villa's 20-year-old as a potential star.
And the Scotland coach insisted that, if Bannan keeps performing at club level, he would be 'silly' not to keep him in the squad.
Staking his claim: Barry Bannan (left) impressed on his Scotland debut
Staking his claim: Barry Bannan (left) impressed on his Scotland debut
Levein, who also saw Kris Commons and Jamie Mackie score their first international goals on a night when a total of seven players were eventually handed Scotland bows, said: 'People don't understand how difficult it is to make your international debut, no matter who you're playing against.
'I felt that young Bannan in particular, after a shaky first five minutes, really settled down and showed glimpses of what the future is for Scottish football. 'I've been banging the drum this week about us having a group of players who are technically pretty good.
'I include him in that, I include Danny Wilson in that. 'I have found the one or two I was looking for. This group I'm trying to assemble is good and there have been some fantastic performances in recent games from guys who weren't here tonight.
'They are around the same age, so there are signs we're getting a decent squad together. 'I want to give them good experiences, for them to enjoy being here and to go away looking forward to the next international match. 'There are a lot of happy players in the dressing room.
'Overall, I know the cynics thought (this match) wasn't a worthwhile exercise. 'Probably they still think that. But we got to see what I believe is the future of Scottish football tonight.'
Asked if the diminutive Bannan - compared to Paul Scholes, Xavi and Andres Iniesta by Scotland captain Darren Fletcher - could become a core squad member by the time our Euro 2012 campaign resumes next September, Levein said: 'If he keeps playing the way he is, I'd be silly not to include him.'
Levein also reserved praise for Charlie Adam, withdrawn through injury in the second half, saying: 'A couple of years ago he wasn't even on the scene but I thought he was fantastic. His range of passing is just delightful and he did the defensive part of the game very well.'

Do you enjoy Christmas? I love it, with a reasonable amount of family who I don't see all that often back around and friends who live in various parts of the country. Good food (though less of that this year on the diet) and Christmas Eve at the pub is usually good fun too.
Some people seem to hate it, which I can understand. But I'll enjoy it, even if it is the first one without my Grandma who died earlier this year. I've got quite a lot of family around my own age which is nice, so it's good to have them all back around for Christmas.
So do you enjoy it?

I can't bring myself to calculate the amount of points we've lost in the last five minutes of games or points we've lost from winning positions. Would make me wince I'm sure.
-
Win is a win. Although we very almost threw it away. Ashley Young was very good I thought, MOTM for me. Good to see Gabby getting a run out, hopefully he'll be ok to start on Saturday.
Good to see the Fonz back amongst the goals too.
-
Didn't see it but we really need to learn how to close out results! Be nice when we 've got a striker who can take the chance created too, hopefully Gabby will be back for next weekend (I imagine Blackpool's too soon).
-
Interesting that Ashley Young doesn't feature.
Yeah, people (including me) take him for granted. But he's been good lately I think. Just possibly not MOTM performances. He got 22 points if you're interested. Which puts him in 9th. I'm sure if you watched him for a whole game (just him) you'd see how much work he puts in and all the good stuff he does.

we desperately, desperately need a new stephen ireland chant
I thought the:
Ireland, Ireland, together the Villa roar...
Would work pretty well (to the tune of the Irish national anthem (or the one they use for the rugby, which I assume is the national anthem)
Can't remember the rest of the words but they're a few pages back.

I see Sidwell got a vote. Welcome to the forum Steve.
**** genius comment
That made me chuckle too
As for the match.. it was poor, very poor. We didn't set out to win the match and a draw was probably a fair result. I hope we employ a bit more of a positive approach in the cup game at their place
While it obviously was a joke, there's still a little bit of my mind that believes he would actually do that...

`We won, reasonably comfortably against an in form side. Can't complain at that.
I went with Lichaj as MOTM, ok so he didn't win us the game but sitting in the front row of the DE down near the Holte I got the chance to have a good look at him up against he impressive Thomas and he did admirably, very promising performance I thought.
Honourable mentions for Downing, Ash, Heskey and Albrighton. Mrc was out the game for long periods yet came up with two assists and almost grabbe a goal. Can't argue with that!
