  1. Tweet from Nixon

    @reluctantnicko: @pontuslarsson81 I'm very well. How ayew?

TBF he was just replying to someone who had asked " Hi Alan how Ayew?"
No he wasn't, someone asked him about Ayew...so he twisted the tweet.

    @pontuslarsson81: @reluctantnicko what about ayew Alan ?

    @reluctantnicko: @pontuslarsson81 I'm very well. How ayew?

The conversation is still going on. Talks about us passing on Chery because we knew we'd have the Benteke money to get better/he tweeted about a mystery striker a day or two ago we were in for.

Sorry misread.Anyway Hopefully we can do better than Ayew and Ade.

  2. From the videos on youtube a lot of his goals were A) penalties and B ) scored on a plastic pitch. Its a lot different playing on an AstroTurf surface. Suits some players doesn't others.

We need players badly but I don't think they have to be bought this week. A player valued at £9m today may go for £7m on deadline day for example.

Yes but at the same time over 10% of our league fixtures will have been played in that time frame so surely the £2m extra would be worth the expense if it helped keep us up?

Unfortunately we are not in a position to be gambling like this. Bums on seats now, no matter the extra cost!

The fans want everything yesterday and the club wants value for money .

Somebody is going to be unhappy...

Nothing to do with what the fans want for me, each position in the league is worth now nearl £2m. Going in understrength to 4 games to save a few million would be a very poor idea financially.

Our first game is still some time away too.

Just over 2 weeks, ideally any player to be playing in the opening fixture would want to be signed in the next 7-8 days.

    Huge week for the club

Richard said this on Tuesday (the day before yesterday) so I cant believe we have so many people already writing it off saying he was way off the mark. Since he said it our best player has left and hopefully provided us with £30m+ in the kitty. With 5 days left on his prediction I would expect some signings in. Whichever way you look at it, its already a huge week for the club.

I may have missed this but where and on what thread has this happened?

  7. People not reading that,  or just saying "we are all doomed" as a way of trying to rubbish it I'm afraid are burying their heads in the sand or worst putting their hands over their ears and singing "lalalalallalalalalala".  We need serious strengthening,  and we need it soon so as to stop the malaise spreading amongst what squad we have left (including the new ones) so that Sherwood has an even bigger task to try and motivate people.

Thats why this is a huge week for us.  As it stands another long hard relegation battle is ahead.  If we make two or three decent signings then the battle may not be as hard,  but we will still have a battle next season. Grim thy have a name and it is Aston Villa

Only 3 days left in this week so the club better get the finger out.

  8. Adebayor Oulare and one other (£6m-£7m player) and our team will not be improved from last season which wouldbbe disappointing. Not saying Nixon knows all our targets BTW . I'm sure he doesn't.

  9. Lerner needs to add at least £20m to the kitty on top of whatever we make from selling players.

Imo, we've probably already spent half of the money we've made from selling players.

    Out

    Sylla £1m

    Lowton £1m

    Andi £2.5m

    Delph £8m

    Out £12.5m

    In

    Amavi £8m

    Gueye £7m

    Sinclair £2.5m

    In: £17.5m

    £5m spent

Sale of Benteke minus Genks £3.75m = £28.75. Take the £5m already spent and we still have £23.75m to spend without any outlay from Lerner.

  10.

He has too many personal problems. Wouldn't mind him as a backup but he isn't worth the wages, plus Spurs seem to want 5m for him? They should be happy just to get him off the wage bill.

Don’t Man City already pay the greater sum of his wages? Perhaps that’s why they’d hold out for a few quid.

Not since the end of last season.

  11. Plenty on Twitter suggesting Darder in by Tuesday. The flip side is in the same breath, so is Adebayor

I thought Darder signed a contract extension a few days ago?

That was an old article from November last year doing the rounds .

  12. Callum Wilson's goals from last season!! He is one lethal finisher

We have been linked with him again this morning, i posted the link last night on here

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugSzMwdArKc

I've never been so uninspired watching a fella score 20 goals . Defending was awful in most. Every time he dribbled with the ball it seemed to bobble off a shin or knee. Even his assists were usually misplaced behind or in front of the player where they had to change their run completely to recover the chance.

  13. I'd accept the signing of Bunn as back-up/no.2 keeper but he isn't a first choice keeper IMO.

Brad is a first choice keeper and shouldn't be sold (unless we manage to sign a better one!)

Agree with this .Would have no problem with the sale if we bought a better number one but as it stands he's the best keeper at the club. Would like to think we could get closer to £5m for him as well if we did sell.

  14. Brad Guzan made available for £3m as mass exodus at Aston Villa continues

Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for goalkeeper Brad Guzan as they continue to undergo major changes this summer.

Manager Tim Sherwood signed his fifth player of the current transfer window when £10million French Under 21 defender Jordan Amavi agreed to join from Nice on Saturday.

But with fans still unhappy at losing captain Fabian Delph to Manchester City and the anticipated departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool, the Villa boss is planning more ins and outs.

Shay Given, who replaced Guzan as Villa No 1 at the end of last season, has joined Stoke City

High on his priority list is a new goalkeeper with Guzan being made available for £3million.

The 30-year-old American, who earns £34,000-a-week, lost his place to Shay Given after a blunder against Manchester City in April and was left out of the FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal.

Villa have already signed Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair, cover goalkeeper Mark Bunn, £7million midfielder Idrissa Gueye and left back Amavi, and lost Darren Bent, Enda Stevens, Andreas Weimann, Matt Lowton, Yacouba Sylla, Antonio Luna, Ron Vlaar and Given. In addition to Guzan, Villa will also allow Bulgarian international Aleksandar Tonev to find a new club. He played on loan at Celtic last season.

The high level of transfer activity has left Villa fans worried about the start of the new season having narrowly avoided relegation in May.

They were incensed earlier this week when Delph initially turned down an £8million move to City only to change his mind on Friday.

Liverpool have matched Benteke's £32.5million buy-out clause and the Belgian striker is expected to complete his move to Anfield imminently.

Don't get why we are so determined to be rid of him, surely even as a number 2?! Got to be more to it than just "that" mistake.

Not saying there is any truth to that article but maybe Guzan has been told we are looking for a new number 1. He doesn't fancy being a second choice after finally making no.1 with the USA or the club think £3m and his wages off the bill would be good business as they would be happy with Bunn to do the job of no.2 for much less wages?

  15. I think Gil had and £8m release clause when we signed him. Release clauses in Spain mean very little and are usually much much higher than the players worth . something we should look into in the future ;)

I think it's more Valencia have an option to buy him back at a certain price? Or am I imagining that?

That could be the case but the release clause was also there as I remember Everton were linked to him a year earlier and were set to trigger the release clause. Never happened obviously.

  17. Sherwood's comments make it sound like we'll sign a 'proven' option (presumably Adebayor) coupled with a loanee - Bamford or Wilson being mentioned. I can't say that prospect thrills me.

Oh I really hope not . this would be the absolute worst case scenario(Barr signing no one) for me . If we bought an up and coming player and loaned Adebayor for the season I could live with it but the other way round doesn't bare thinking about. Next summer we would be in the complete sh**house.

  18. What a roller coaster . delph going (down) , Guyue signing (up), Delph staying(massive up) Benteke going( massive down) , Delph Going (massive down after his comments) ,Amavi signing (huge lift) , Adebayor (down)

I know Adebayor is only speculation. But it's one hell of a ride the last 7-8 days.

  19. The slight worry I have is that we would lack height . If we signed Darder and Praet. We could be playing with a first 11 that only one of the outfield players is over 6 foot. Might not be too big an issue but it wouldn't bode too well for set pieces.
