  1. This looks like it's off.

Christian Benteke absolutely wants to go to the Premier League. Mario Been, who a few days ago was very angry with his behaviour, is remarkably mild for his player.

"I still hope that Christian will stay with us," said Been. "I do not condone what he has done, but it is also a game of agents. If the transfer does not take place, here is still a coach who will embrace Christian. I hope that everyone will do it."

Genk will not sell below the asking price. So Benteke is not gone yet. "I hope that the desired amount won't come on the table", Been admits.

For Benteke today is the last day to make the transfer happen. The transfer market closes at midnight.

  2. Problem is genk dont really need the money

    la la land.

May not be desperate for money. But the fees involved are significant for them.

Yes but it means they're in a stronger position so they can ask these silly prices...

  3. Larscapaldi is a Belgian Villa fan who has watch him play in the Belgian league and doesn't think he would make the step up to the premier league.

You guys can disagree if you like but there is no need to be patronising about it.

True. But I do think he's in a position where he could give us a more developed opinion than the one he is giving. All he has said is that he's not good enough, but doesn't really say why. He also doesn't give us much of a picture of the sort of player Benteke is, what he's good at, what he isn't etc.

Well Benteke actually plays the position Bent is in, which for me is the biggest problem, because imo if there's a position we don't need reinforcements in it's probably Bent's.

On his day Benteke is unplayable, but those days are rare, when he wants something, he's got a desire to succeed, so he wants to come here but Genk won't let him, if eventually it goes through he'll do what is in his power to make it here as a player. But most importantly the manager must always keep him motivated, as he's one who needs a lot of man management.

In comparison to Bent, you could say Bent plays a lot of the game with his brains, Benteke would be playing impulsively, also he's not one who creates chances himself, he's more the goalpoacher type. He may be a big fella, but I've never seen him play as a targetman. If he'd been playing in that position he could possibly make a good partnership with Bent, but I don't see that happening. His technique is okay as well (better than Gabby's that's for sure) but when it's not his day he's one of the most frustrating players to watch.

Not much more I can tell you really, you can see the guy has got some talent (I'd say he may be as good as that other Belgian, Lukaku) but as I said earlier it's very very raw. If we're getting him for the future I'm all for giving him a chance -although £5.5M is exaggerated- but at the moment we've got much bigger issues to deal with than our strikeforce.

  4. According to his agent he's just a bit ill, but he will play against Luzern on Thursday. Still hope he doesn't come here though

Why don't you want him here?

Well he's not even proven himself in the (shitty) Belgian league -I think he's had a total of 2 games where he played decent enough- so let alone he'll make it here. Mind you, if he comes I 100% hope he proves me wrong. He might have the potential, but it's very very raw, and at the age of 21 that's just not good enough for me

Has he not got 16 goals in 38 games last season plus 3 in 5 this season. That's a decent record and if he can play the target man role well could work well with Bent and/or Gabby.

Not sure about his goalscoring record but it probably won't be far off. Still, one has to keep in mind that the opponents are not quite premier league standard :D

So basically you've got no idea about the guy but in your opininon he isn't good enough??

    Only on VT.

Not quite, just that I don't know exactly how many games he's played last season or how many goals he did score. I don't know that from half the villa squad either, doesn't mean that I've never seen them play.

  7. Pukkelpop has to be the best festival. Was great once again this year and has never let me down

Well I went last year when 5 people died and two of the days were cancelled so I'm not going to agree with you there.

On a more practical note the food was not very good (just the usual hotdogs/chips/crap burgers etc) and there was only one vendor selling good beer, the rest all served average lager in small cups for €2.50 :(

It was a pretty friendly atmosphere but the camping was cramped and you had to cross a busy main road to get in and out from the stages to your tent.

There wasn't much else going on around the site besides the music stages which is a shame but the stages were a good size and the line up was good so from that aspect I couldn't complain.

I would suggest that if you get a chance in your life go to Glastonbury Festival. You will never look at another festival the same way again.

Well last year doesn't count for me as what happened wasn't in their hands really. And we stayed on the camping for the next day as well so in fact we only lost one day :P

Campings they have handled that 'problem' now, as they made 3 seperate campings instead of just one, although that has never bothered me to be honest.

Don't know how much the beers are with you guys usually but in Belgium it's a pretty standard price when you get them on festivals; trick is, bring your own booze inside :winkold:

I've heard a lot of good things about Glastonbury so maybe some day I'll make it over there. What's the size of Glastonbury anyway?

  8. I'll be driving :D . Just got my tickets in the bus today, really excited to finally see the boys for the 1st time this season. Prepare for the Belgian Villans!

Could be a fun day out this one, just saw on the Brmen site it's their fanday as well, so I assume it will be sold out with hopefully some atmosphere.

    Here's what they write:

There are not even six days left and there are still lots of season preparation highlights to come for Werder Bremen! The Day of Fans 2012 happens this Saturday 11 August 2012 with a special program. For the first time in history, a test match will take place on the Green-Whites' home grounds following the colourful fun at Weser Stadium. The autograph hour will take place between 3 and 4 p.m. on the grounds in front of the East Curve. Afterwards, the players will line up for the big test match against Aston Villa.

In addition to all the players, fans can also get autographs from the coaching staff as well as for the first time the honorary captains - with the Werder team spread out over the grounds. At 4 p.m. the team will be presented on stage - two hours before the Green-Whites will play against English club Aston Villa.

The supporters will also have the opportunity to win one of 1,000 autograph sets with original signatures. The only condition is to provide name and address on a postcard at one of the information booths, the ticket centre, in front of Fan World or at the stage of the grounds. With a bit of luck, the 1,000 lucky participants will receive by mail by the end of August a set.

  9. We're coming over from Belgium so with our support we can't lose. Like some others on here I'd love to see Carruthers get a start

Nice to see some overseas support but my advice to you and your mates is to get down La Grand Place in Brussels, have a few beers and watch it on the TV because we sure ain't worth travelling that far for!

I don't think they'll be showing the game anywhere in Belgium, and Brussels is a shithole  Besides, the Villa is always worth travelling for :winkold:
