Welbeck and Henderson are probably the most overrated players in Premier League

Not sure who overrates Welbeck, unless you like strikers who cant score. Henderson has been quality this season

    Seriously, this.

Henderson has been absolutely superb for Liverpool this season and Welbeck is underrated if anything (I don't think he's that great at all, mind).

He's superb on what basis? By just doing unrisky passes and let Gerrard, Sturridge,Suarez and Sterling do all the job. Seriously, had he played on a mid-table side he would be average at best.

  2. I really can't see Benteke leaving....last year we did not want to sell and demanded 25mil for a move.

All that has changed is he is now tied down to a longer contract and having a worse-off season....I can't see lambert/villa wanting to sell, so clubs would have to force our hand....can you really see anyone wanting to pay more that 25mil for Benteke

I think it depends on how well he performs in the World Cup

We are still discussing possession stats? The Stoke match cannot arrive soon enough.

Not if we beat them with less possession. There'll be an absolute uproar on here.
Possession have been an importent aspect of the modern game, whether people like it or not.

Goals and points are the only thing that have ever mattered. Whether people like it or not.?

You don't have to point out the obvious, it's really not necesarry. You'll never break into that "top 8 league" with our current possession rate. Thats no chance. We have to improve our passing, unless people would be happy for us surfing at the 10th-13th spots for the coming years. I assume people have higher expectations.

We are great on the counter, and thats a great asset to have in our game, but you have to couple it together with a more passing oriented style, where we are able to break down defences in open play. Thats not possible at the current time, but hopefully Lambert can sign some creative players in the summer, lets hope so.

  4.

Helenius isn't good enough. I trust Lambert's judgement.

Being not ready and being not good enough are 2 completely different things.

Really? He's mainly a center forward isn't he? Yea he can also play behind the striker, but we don't play a formation which use that position. Also, i think Kozak, Benteke, Gabby or even Weimann are miles ahead of him in that role.

  6. Is Lambert setting us up in the way we can get the most out of our current squad? Probably, as we don't have any creative midfielders.

That was never my point though. In the next coming years i think we need to improve our passing abilities, thats without a doubt. To only play at the counter is very predictable. We need to evolve more strings at our play imo, you might disagree, but thats football.

  7. No he isn't. He's merely pointing out that having tonnes of possession doesn't really anything.

And thats not what me and others mean either. It's not the case of wanting to play like Swansea, but to improve our possession stats

  8. I'm pretty sure (although it would need checking by someone with time on their hands) that the team who averages most possession per game, most passes per game and the highest pass completion rate per game is sat in 14th place in the table.

That's 4 positions and 5 points worse off than Villa.  Whilst we'd obviously like to see more of the ball, let's not get too tied up in how important possession is overaYou make

You make is sound like you either have to play like West Ham or Barca, like there is nothing in between

This is ridicilous. I'm not saying I'm unhappy with our victories.

    This quote suggests otherwise.

What annoys me this season is games like Everton away and also that lucky City win a home.

Usually being 'annoyed' and 'happy' are exclusive.

Yes, our playing style annoyed me, not the result.

Maybe, just maybe, those playing styles were required to beat those teams.

If you'd tried to use the same argument to highlight where we've struggled to win then you may have a point.

You can't really compare the Chelsea win to the Everton loss. Against Everton we had Holt and Benteke up front. The rest were back. We just hoofed, thats what i don't like to see

  10. Some just don't seem to realise that we are never going to be able to dominate possession against the likes of Chelsea and City. That doesn't mean we can't play good football against them though and have more chances.

And some don't realise that we wont ever get into top 8 with our current possession rate.

  12. This is ridicilous. I'm not saying I'm unhappy with our victories. All I say is that we still have alot of room for improvements in our general play. Like others already have stated, if we want to take the next step in the league we need to have the ability to control games against the smaller sides.

You can laugh at possession stats all you want, but take a look at the top 8 sides in the league, do you find any of them having a possession rate of under 50 %?

  13. I've seen the saints game mentioned again and despite low possession we looked like the team who would score, they spent most of the game taping it around the outside of the box. Lambert set us up perfectly for counter attack. Until the injury we were in control of the match and still won anyway. The city game I think is our only 'lucky' game where in the case of west ham we battered them and lost to two dumb goals in as many minutes in a game we were dominating.

    Really? Actual stats:

    Possession: Soton 78 % Villa 22 % - Shocking

Shots off target: Soton 21 Villa 6 - Again shocking

Shots on target: Soton 9 Villa 3 How is this not lucky? Tell me?

Stats don't lie. That being said i'm really happy with the recent performances. The lads have been exellent!

But that doesn't mean we can't still be critical, games like the saints victory (even tho we won) was a shocking performance.

  14. Yeah I found it really annoying when we beat Man City too, Lambert Out

It might seem not very important for most fans, but it is important to look behind results and stats. If you look back at the stats from the City and Southampton game i don't think it will be very entertaining reading.

  15. What annoys me this season is games like Everton away and also that lucky City win a home.

Your never going to get anything against Everton with just sitting back and let them play on their strengths, poor tactically by Lambert imo. The City and the Southampton game away were lucky as s***

Also. Our possession stats needs to improve next season.
