  1. Not a defence for him but Algeria/Egypt was always gonna end up with sendings off. Hes a hot headed guy but sometimes thats indicative of a will to win. His challenge against us that he didnt see red for was pretty bad too. But imo he's a really talented player, hes quick, can dribble, real strong and he can cross. He better more so up top than at the back and considering the price he would probably come at I can't see better options available.
  2. This summer I'm expecting a massive clearout. I'm expecting the following players to be replaced: Carew, Heskey, Sidwell, Reo Coker, Beye, Shorey, LYoung and Davies. Therefore we need two improvements on our strikers. Two new centre mids, two right backs and a left back. Davies needn't be replaced in the transfer market. Dunne, Cuellar and Collins are all better than he is. Ciaran Clark is a nice prospect and should be 4th choice. Centre backs were sorted last season and don't need any replacing. Right backs as per usual are a problem area for us. LYoung moving on is a shame but i really like the idea of Micah Richards. Thought he was poor as a centre back but feel he has excellent potential to excel as a right back and would give us some serious impetus going forward that Cuellar doesn't. Man City's pursuit for big names works to our advantage as it did with Dunne. Can't imagine he would cost over the odds. I like Nathaniel Clyne as our backup right back and cover on the left to. Really mature footballer who is good defensively. Can't imagine we would be breaking the bank for him tbh. At a cut price I like the idea of Nader Belhadj. He was a prick when he played us but I like him as a player. He has his flaws defensively and is brilliant going forward. If need be he can play at left back but for me he can challenge Downing. Hes underrated imo on the left of midfield and represents excellent value for money. Petrov for me doesn't have the legs anymore and should be a fringe player. Considering our high tempo football Stephen Ireland is a must in my opinion. Real energy and stamina. He can pass and he can unlock defences. Him and Milner would be immense. Delphs injury means another good centre mid is a neccesity and im liking the look of Graham Dorrans. Another guy with an eye for a pass and a good engine. Give us four quality centre mids and one fading one. A huge improvement on Reo Coker and Sidwell and more versatile positions wise. Downing/Young/Albrighton/Belhadj works for me. Not sold on Downing yet but heres hoping he can perform next season. The less said about Heskey the better. Don't like Carew either. His deficiencies outweigh his benefits. He loses the ball, is lazy, inconsistent and generally don't feel he fits into our way of playing. Providing the price is right I would love Robbie Keane at the club. He is an intelligent footballer. Will link up well with Milner and Ireland and will score nearly as many as Carew whilst providing more for the team. Him and Gabbi to start for me. The other striker I like is Kevin Doyle. Again another smart footballer who I can just see doing so well at a better club than Wolves. A seriously underrated footballer. Also with Delfouneso likely to get more game time we have a solid and varied set of strikers. GK Friedel/Guzan LB Warnock/Clyne RB Richards/Clyne CB Dunne/Collins CB Cuellar/Clark CM Milner/Dorrans/Delph CM Ireland/Petrov LM Downing/Belhadj RM Young/Albrighton CF Gabbi/Delfouneso CF Keane/Doyle Outs - Carew swap for Keane? , Heskey 2m, Sidwell 3m, Reo Coker 4m, Beye 1m, Shorey 2m, LYoung 3m, Davies 5m = £20m gained Ins - Richards 7m, Belhadj 2m, Clyne 2m, Ireland 6m, Dorrans 8m, Keane - swap for Carew, Doyle 10m =£35m spent That means £15m spending in total and a huge improvement to the squad. Values may be slightly off but we certainly don't need to spend £30m to significantly improve the side.
  3. Does anyone know of any speculation linking us to a right back?... Looking at whos available in the Premiership the list isnt particularly impressive... Chelsea and Liverpool i assume will battle it out for Dani Alves and i assume the loser will probably banl on Micah Richards who seems to be the only right back worth a punt in the Premier league... If not him then 2nd best choices are Luke Young, Hoyte and Glen Johnson... We're probably better off abroad but we seem to be developing a real English side so i wouldnt be surprised if we signed one of the above...
  4. There are a lot of players on the market that have been considered by top four clubs but just havent been signed and probably wont...this is the type of player we need to look at...just cos you cant make it first team at a big four club doesnt mean they arent a significant improvement on what we have...Also we should go abroad where we can use the fact that we are in the Premiership to are advantage...in England we can only attract average players at extortionate prices...abroad we can be a lot more productive especially since there are an abundance of players who fit our problem areas... Players to consider... We have spoken a lot about the holding role...There seems to be loads of them in France...now the likes of Yaya Toure, Jeremy Menez, Alou Diarra, Makoun II have all been sought at some point but players have been chosen over them from the big 4... In terms of a centre back and left back...Abidal would be a good bet...was sought by Arsenal and is a French international...another possible left back could be Taye Taiwo... Revellierre would be a good signing at right back... Boruc and Gordan look good... Upfront i quite like our strikeforce but would sign Beattie as a backup to Carew... So for me i would sign.... Revelliere Abidal Gordan Diarra Beattie That would be a good summer for me...
  5. I think two good fullbacks could be the solution to us scoring goals next season...every top club has full backs which arent only good in defence but can deliver that killer cross and support the front players...Bouma can defend but he isnt an attacking full back...JLloyd just couldnt defend...Bardsley is just a shambles in my opinion...Wayne Bridge is too good to be a backup at any club and if he is available he would be an excellent signing for us thats if he would come to us...And if he can stay fit i wouldnt mind Glen Johnson who is young and good going forward... We've just bought a striker yet people demand more and more...we need a backup to Carew and thats about it...Marlon King is a decent shout as he wouldnt mind being backup...Id much rather we gace Luke and Gabi a run in the team cos they arent going to be amazing warming the becnh every game...Gabi has shown what hes capable of and he'll be even better next season...Lukes been unlucky with injury this year...i thought this would be his year but we'll wait for next season... Btw what is the obsession with certain players...Ashtons been injured a whole season yet everyone worships him and talks about other players being too injury prone... Also i see Appiah mentioned all the time...have we ever been linked with this guy or he just everyones favourite...even then what is it based on...his WC?...not a criticism...just a query...but i thin a CM is a priority cos McCann isnt good enough...we've looked a lot better without him... CD is a possibility...Distins decent but he think hes a bit better than he is...get the impression he'd want a bigger club than ours...i actually think we're alright for CB...Cahill will be better next term as an understudy to Laursen and Mellberg...and we can even put Bouma there... Sorensens alright...nothing amazing but there arent many amazing keepers on the market...Is Boruc really that much of a step up?... I understand everyone gets excited cos we have money but you dont want to upset the balance too much so i would be more than satisfied with three buys in the summer... CM - Joey Barton but i doubt he'd come... LD- Wayne Bridge... RD - Luke Young/ Glen Johnson/ Geremi...
  6. There seems to be a massive obsession with signing strikers at our club...now that we have Carew i think strikers like Bent are out of the question...Carew didnt come to play reserve football...and as for Ashton he needs to prove himself next season before anyone would make a go for him...as for the wide men we have plenty in Gabi, Maloney, Luke and Young so why would we want Saviola and Bellamy...up front we need a backup for Carew otherwise we're fine up there... Petrov looks more comfy in his new spot...we probably need one more central midfielder but Sidwell seems to want to go Newcastle...whats good though is Gardener is showing promise...i know the massive desire to sign players but its always more satisfying if one of your own can step to the plate... The main position that needs to be addressed is our right back...so if Charlton do go down we should go for Luke Young...Bardsley is backup quality...Also whilst Bouma is doing alright i think we need a step up from him...cant think of asnyone of the top of my head but thats a spot we need to look at... Centre backs im fine with...Laursen and Mellberg are proficeint and Cahill will get better...give some of the young guys a chance... And as for Sorensen hes alright for the moment...if we get the Boruc guy then great but hes not a grave concern... So for me priorities are a backup for Carew...and a first chouce right and left back...3 players sounds good and shouldnt upset the balance of the side...
  7. Crossman...its for that reason i dont want so called 'big' players at the club...Saviola, Podolski, Klose would see themselves as bigger than the club if they did come here...thats why i would prefer 5 young players who will work hard as a team...
  8. Actually you are right...it wouldnt be as cheap as i thought...i forgot Reo Coker when i did my calculations...But i reckon Johnson and Bridge could be got for under 10million...so even at around 20-25 million thats 5 good players...which is better than spending 20 on one player like some were suggesting for Podolski...
  9. There are a few people on this forum with their heads in the clouds...Podolski and Klose wouldn't dream of coming here...they are both established players who both play champions league football...why would either of them come to our club... And to those who dislike the idea of Darren Bent...i cant understand why...hes a player who can play up front on his own...he is physically stron and strong in the air and hes proven himself in the Premiership...hes a player that wouldnt interest the top four aswell which is perfect for us...we should bag him up if we can... The right side is a problem for us...I dont think Aaron Hughes is good enough...Now people have spoekn about Micah Richards who is a good shout...another right back we should look at who would be easier to attain is Glen Johnson who signed too early for Chelsea but has performed brilliantly for Portsmouth this year...He would be a good signing... Everyone has brought up Appiah...is he actually available becuase he would be a decent holding player... Another Chelsea reject we could get is Wayne Bridge...hes a top left back and is wasting himself as Chelsea...lets hope we go in for him... These are all affordable young players who we should look at...we should also look at decent squad players...Our defence looks good if there are injuries...Our midfiled and trike force doesnt however...Sidwell and Ashley Young whilst not being good enough to be in our first team would be decent squad players for me... Sorensen Bridge Mellberg Ridgwell G Johnson Petrov Barry Reo Coker Milner Agbonlahor Bent Changed the team...i reckon MON will adopt 442 when he can...Now that is a good young side for me that will get betetr and better...It wouldnt cost more than 15mil to assemble this team ...
