I’d love to ask Rishi Sunak why stopping the boats is the highest priority.

Highest taxes in history, child poverty, NHS waiting lists, pot holes, Brexit red tape, environmental climate change, shit in the rivers, etc etc

With total immigration over a million a year, why is the circa 29,000 who arrive on a small boat getting so much of the governments focus and how will stopping them benefit the masses in the UK population (to justify it being the government priority)?

Has anyone squarely asked him that? Maybe they’re waiting for one of the TV debates to put him on the spot.

Regardless of how you feel about immigration it was a **** horrific bit of politics to use the word "stop". That's surely impossible, short of putting gun boats in the channel and machine gunning a load of unarmed people in inflatables.

It does kind of give the game away though. The crowd they're pandering to don't want to reduce the numbers, they don't want to control the numbers, they just want no more brown folk coming in.

Surely this is some kind of AI fakery? I’m just waiting for that mission impossible moment where he rips his face off and reveals himself to be Vladimir Putin.

Would they sign him to their League if they didn't already own him though?

I don't think anyone can get into their minds and say what they would or wouldn't do in a hypothetical scenario. I can only judge on what they do and whether it's within reason. They could have gone and signed him for 100m and we're all then well within our rights to say it's obviously corrupt but he's a 29 year old winger, who played a big part in the team finishing top 4 last season, played in this seasons Champions League and Premier League as a regular. Would I want Villa paying 25-30m for Almiron? No, because I don't rate him. Do I think that amount is unreasonable for someone to pay that? Not really.

Let's not forget, these are the people who threw a disgusting amount of money at Mbappe to try and lure him to their league. They seem to know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I'm amused by the news that they think the younger generations are willing to be conscripted by a government and country that's been **** them over and breaking the social contract for most of their lives.

If I couldn't get out in time, I'll take prison thanks. I'm not dying for this shithole.

Definitely agree with this. It’s just not going to work anymore. If I could get to Canada, NZ or Australia I would go on a heartbeat. There’s just nothing to like about this country anymore that would compel me to fight for it. It’s been sold off by corrupt words removed who would no doubt find some way to exempt themselves and all their mates. We’re barely even a democracy anymore tbh just capitalists on steroids.

The supposed figures for Almiron are nuts, no English team would pay that...

All I’m hearing is 25-30m. They paid 20m for him and there’s a rumoured sell on clause that would deprive them of some of that as well.

Im all for jumping on the “Newcastle are just corrupt shills for oil Arab sportswashing” bandwagon but I don’t think it’s particularly justifiable here. They’re overpaying but not by an outrageous amount that screams obvious corruption.

The league do need to look at that sleeve sponsorship thing though. That stinks to high heaven.

She mentioned on R4 this morning that she had ‘noted’ the style and content of BBC’s coverage of her report this morning.

He asked her several times what was wrong with the coverage, if she took issue with anything. By the end he had her saying categorically there was absolutely nothing wrong with any of the coverage in any way.

Unfortunately, this sort of incident, a Tory being called out and made to look amateur is actually exactly what she meant. It’s not accuracy they are after, it’s a softer ride for themselves. Unfortunately for them, their cheek has become lazy and incompetent at the same time as the other cheek has sorted itself out sufficiently not to be constantly undermined.

Stop the thread, we have a winner.

It's interesting they have nothing to say about organisations that typically report in their favour. The BBC is a publicly funded entity so it's right they're held to a different standard but it's always struck me that they go out of their way to ensure balance, even when it's difficult to justify.

Does seem like all they want is to avoid scrutiny for their under performance/lies/corruption and they'll use any tool in the box to shut it down.

On the Gaza hospital thing. They weren't the only ones to misreport that. It's an active warzone where reporters have been denied access and even if they weren't, sending in reporters when you know the danger to life is unacceptable is something they should rightfully consider carefully. If they're not happy with the reporting on that and think it strays to bias then surely there's a mechanism to investigate it properly and independantly without the secretary of state making a policitcal point of it? I haven't looked into it so I don't know if that actually happened.

Netanyahu has now said the quiet part out loud - there will never be a two state solution - and then put two fingers up to the US. What will the west do now? Gonna be hard for politicians to say they believe in a two state solution without appearing impotent. Only the other day Labour committed to recognising Palestine only when Israel do.

Tbf it was dead a long time ago. I'm not even sure a palestinian state that was made up of Gaza and the West bank is even a viable state. Is there a solution to make all the palestinians citizens of Israel with the same rights as a jewish israeli? The Israeli's probably wouldn't want that because they're concerned about how introducing a bunch of non-jewish voters who you would assume vote for palestinian parties and the palestinians would see it as a second rate solution to their own state?

I’m never normally happy reading stuff about the tories. However this sentence I really am not at all pleased with :D

I would say 35-50 is the age range that BCS would appeal to most. Whether those who vote Tory also like BCS is another matter.

To my mind, they’ve taken a critically acclaimed show, with a catchy title which literally instructs you needing the service of an individual and put Starmer in place of the show’s protagonist. The character who, while flawed I believe people like (I’m referring to Saul, not Starmer).

It’s not dissimilar to that time Labour (?) put Cameron’s head on that detective from Life on Mars. Let’s associate our enemy with something good and/or popular. That’ll show ‘em.

I respect your opinion, but I fundametally disagree, you old ****! 😉

BCS is a fantastic show though. If Starmer had half the presentation of Saul the Tories would be more screwed than they already are!

Whatever happened to that winger from Norwich we were linked with?  Was the links bollocks ?

Milot Rashica? He was rubbish and they got relegated so now he's plying his trade in the Turkish farmers league. We've moved on.

It’s dead anyway, we know it, they know it. It’s just at which point it receives the final blow (kw).

We all know it’s unworkable but it’s not dead until the Tory throbbers who want to pull us out of the echr have crawled back into their holes. There’s always the danger that we’ll get someone dangerous or a useful idiot like truss or Johnson who’ll just make the decision to bulldoze it through regardless of how unworkable, illegal or immoral it is.

  11. I highly doubt they’ll lose the vote on the actual bill. If they do then the policy is effectively dead along with the prospect of removing us from the echr the hardliners want. It confirms Sunak as a busted flush and makes the spring general election none of them want more likely.

The whole thing is just a shambles from start to finish though. How much time and money has been spent on this when the rest of the country has been hurting badly and just wants them to get on with fixing the economy, nhs and pretty much everything else they’ve broken.

Without FFP, City, Chelsea and United would have been able to spend even more money than they already have. So would make no difference. 🤷‍♂️

Come on man. They spend what they want anyway. It's not for them. It's for everyone else.

Which is exactly what Iran wants.

I highly doubt that. They want an enemy that they can point at to unite their people against. They'll fight through proxies to maintain the feud, but they don't want to actually fight because they know that would be the end for them.

  14. Didn’t the Saudis pretty much destroy Yemen to try and get at these Houthi rebels? If they’re threatening trade in the Red Sea then what are the Saudis and Egyptians doing about it? It’s their region and surely they’re the ones with the most to gain from keeping it open?

All eyes on the genocide case today - let's see how quickly our politicians start to pivot once something like genocide is established, whenever that is. I'm actually finding more Tories falling on the right side of this than Labour.

If you're expecting them to rule that it's Genocide then you'll be disappointed. It's a very high bar.

    There's no doubt it's ethnic cleansing, but I don't think it's Genocide.

Yep. Man City will never, ever face justice. There are people, even on this forum that watch them, rave about how good they are, call their **** manager by his affectionate little pet name and even address the cheating bastards by their own pet name.

I know I'll get pelters for saying it, but whilst that continues, and it will, they will never be held to account. People should refuse to watch them, demand justice and stop banging on about how good their illegally assembled squad is. Maybe then it would help even a little bit, to bring this forward.

If they ever do get their day in court, it will be such an insignificant "punishment" that it wouldn't even register.

They'll probably have a few more trebles by then too.

    Hate them.

It has nothing to do with their players, manager and whatever people on VT decide to call them.

It has everything to do with the way we've been in this country since the 80s (and probably before that tbh). The world and the country has become all about money in pretty much every facet of life and unfortunately these countries have it. You only have to look at the 90s side by side pictures with today of these places to know they're dripping in wealth. We've prostituted ourselves to them on every level regardless of how revolting we find them. When it was the Chinese or the Americans we do the same. If you have the money we don't care as long as you're spending it with us. Then what you've got is a melting pot of competing interests, a proxy war between the various powers of the region (and the world tbh) being played out in a sporting scenario. The Qataris, Abu Dhabi's, Saudis, Americans, Chinese, all vying to **** each other other by buying a club, pumping a load of money into it and deny the others the prize.

If you want it to change then you need to use your vote to eject the uber capitalists in this country whose only principle appears to be "how much are you willing to spend, and what's my cut?".

Sorry to make it political, but frankly it is.

  17. It’s disappointing that teams feel the need to play that way against us. When one teams intention is to kill the game as a spectacle, as was clearly their intention from the off when they picked 5 at the back. A formation they’d not been playing.

I guess we’ve got to see it as a sign of how far we’ve come that teams like this feel they can’t match up against us and that’s their only way to get anything.

They had a couple of noses ring into talkSPORT the other day saying that other than this the club is doing really well. He was listing the club shop, catering, facilities, the stands being fixed, signage etc. You could just see Simon Jordan’s face and eventually when the inbred shut up Jordan was like “so what. It’s a football club and they’re terrible on the pitch”

    Annihilated in one sentence.
