  1. According to Wayne Rooney (via twitter) he was speaking in person to David Moyes last night...

...and he is on holiday in Barbados :-(

Doesn't look like he is having an interbiew this week then.

Apparently we've already met with Moyes/reps twice already.

Who told you that Salifou ?????????

Look at who else is on holiday with Rooney and Moyes.....

    Andy Carroll??

    Jesus is reborn!

  2. Somebody on facebook reporting action at Bodymoor.......

    Cutting the grass ?

Appearently someone's put a banner o/s BH saying "No McClaren" and the photo is doing the rounds on FB. Not sure if this is what this is referring to but it's only thing I've seen today.

    Got a pic/link of it?

It was doing the rounds on twitter yesterday, however you couldn't even see what it said.

  3. just had it on good authority that it is mclaren. meetings scheduled for tomorrow with benitez and hughes have been cancelled by Villa.

    A Chap of H&V.

    Yeah ok, great source lmfao

Just posting it, where did i say it was true? But we'll see soon enough.

I think by saying you've had it on good authority means you trust the person and what they've said. Its too late to try and distance yourself from it now

Sorry pal, should have quoted it but their his words mate not mine!

  5. Have you seen how the youth and reserve teams have been doing over the last few years some of you lot? This club does not need "restructuring" from the youth team upwards. And MON did not cock anything up - whoever appointed Houllier did! It's easily rectified, though. Stop watching Eurosport and trying to appoint Spanish waiters and former war criminals and get one of the young Scots in!

    What a load of cack.

Listening to Ian Taylor the other day talking about Bryan Jones, he was effectively saying for him its not about winning youth cups or leagues at that level it's effectively getting players into the first team, yes we've developed a few but how many would you say are quality? Their good footballers but we haven't created a Rooney or an Ethan Moore (Sorry SGC). No doubt i'll get Albrighton or Delfouneso, but we do need to work on our youth set up in the scouting areas and we are by gradually bringing a few foreign players. Two highly rated youngsters scouted under MON's era have both been released. Forrester and the Dutch Chap.

  6. According to a source, interviews are being conducted by webcam so flights could be irrelevant.

    Your joking?????

How can you form an opinion about somebody via webcam???

    If true, then im shocked.

Its bollocks, it came from the guy who made up about 40 to 50 rumours about Villa in 10mins.

  7. I don't understand what all the discussion is about. Mark Hughes would not have left Fulham if he did not have a job to go to. This "we have not spoken to him" and "it's just a coincidence" it simply a smoke screen so we don't get into trouble for breaching his contract. Once his 30 days are up he will be appointed and I am sure that as we speak he is thinking about where he is going to spend the Ashely Young money

I agree with this. I dont think Mysteryman has a clue about this one if it is even the same mysteryman anyway.

MH will be appointed 1st July

Hughes will not be VILLA manager.

  8. PremRumours Premiership Rumours

@ @philrussell88 Trust me Phil. They always say that. Is why it's such a nightmare getting information out of Villa. We're trying. #AVFC

    PremRumours Premiership Rumours

@ @philrussell88 I hope for your sake it isn't him either mate. Not all our sources can be 100% but most are. Villa are difficult.

Basically a fan saying the local press have denied him being in the running, then saying his sources can't always be 100% and Villa are difficult. Then he says it'll be announced either later tonight or tomorrow. I personally think he's full of shit.

Sellyoak Villa (Richard P Franks on Twitter)

    Says it's Not McClaren

  9. Mystery Man

The Bent deal was kept under wraps for a while no one really had much of a sniff what was going on . If you had asked the majority of Villa supporters pre the Bent deal if we would spend 18 to 24 million on a proven striker of this calibre I bet most would say no our ambition is no better than say a Robbie Keane or Dejemba Ba .

Think we may be surprised who we actually get but the one thing for certain is they won't rock the deal by going public on it until it's done !

  10. Steve McClaren during his time as England manager

STEVE McClaren is NOT the leading contender for the Aston Villa job despite the claret and blues sounding out the unpopular former England coach about their managerial vacancy.

It emerged yesterday that McClaren’s representatives have been approached as Randy Lerner launches a thorough search for Gerard Houllier’s Villa Park successor.

But the Birmingham Mail understands McClaren is not among the prime targets Lerner intends to speak to this week after jetting in from America.

Villa’s tentative interest in the former Middlesbrough, FC Twente and Wolfsburg manager sparked a negative backlash with angry fans besieging message-boards.

Despite lifting the League Cup at Boro and leading the Riverside club to a UEFA Cup final, McClaren is largely remembered for his dismal spell as England boss.

The 50-year-old coach was cruelly dubbed the ‘Wally with the Brolly’ after the enduring image of him forlornly holding an umbrella as the Three Lions failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

McClaren kick-started his career in Holland with FC Twente and won the title in his second season, but even then was lampooned for doing interviews in a ridiculous Dutch accent.

With impressive coaching credentials at Man United and Derby, Villa felt it was important to check out McClaren.

But the claret and blues are still contemplating whether to take their interest any further as they prefer to meet another two targets with Premier League management experience.

Villa old boy Gareth Southgate is not surprised by the negativity surrounding McClaren, but reckons his former Boro boss has strong credentials, along with other contenders.

“Look I won’t put Steve ahead of any of the other candidates that are there, but I will say he’s as good as any of those in the frame for the job,” said Southgate.

“Whenever he is linked with a job there always seems to be a bit of a negative reaction yet if you look at what he has done you begin to think.

“He’s been assistant manager at Manchester United, he’s worked with the first team at Derby, he’s been an assistant for England before becoming the manager, he’s won a championship abroad, and he’s had a great deal of success with Middlesborough, winning them their first trophy, you then start to think, ‘Well why wouldn’t he be in the frame, logically’

“Logically he’s going to be in the frame because of his success.

“Unfortunately, people are always tainted by things that didn’t go so well in their careers, but there’s a hell of a lot of things that Steve has done well.”

Mentions of McClaren’s name in connection with the Villa job have not gone down well with many fans who remember an irate Boro supporter hurling his season ticket at the boss during Villa’s 4-0 win at the Riverside in February 2006.

“I’m not surprised with the reaction because that’s the way we are now,” said Southgate.

“I’ve lived through it, but I would say you’ve got to look at what he has done.

“Everybody improves by the knock-backs you get. After England he went abroad and you’ve got to give him great credit for that for going and winning a title.

“Steve’s a very hard-working coach and he looks to improve all the time.

“But there are equally a couple of other guys who I think would do a good job too.

“I don’t think Steve has got anything to prove.”

It is understood that Fulham’s appointment of Martin Jol yesterday will have no bearing on Villa’s stance towards Mark Hughes, who is still regarded as a highly unlikely outsider by the claret and blue hierarchy
