  1. right, instead of people complaining, can someone do some helpful analysis?

For a start, it would be interesting to have a list of every Martinez transfer at Wigan, how much he paid, whether they were a hit or flop.

His transfers have been flops an a lot of people will point to Bosselli.

But positives are Diame, Moses, McCarthy, Al Habsi and McArthur.

  2. End of the day, Steve Bruce outperformed Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic.

Steve Bruce at Wigan - 14th and 11th

Roberto Martinez at Sunderland - 16th and 16th

Why isn't Steve Bruce on our shortlist?

Martinez gets less stick because he's a likeable guy and because he's Spanish so people naturally associate that with him playing beautiful, Barca-style football. When in reality, he got outperformed at the same club by an unfashionable Englishman by the name of Stevie Bruce.

Because Randy agrees his face looks like a Spud!

  3. Because he feels he needs another season at Wigan before stepping up with a bigger club. He has a good thing at Wigan why risk it for us? The fans will instantly turn on him, least at Wigan he can make mistakes while learning and not be judged on it.

  4. We no longer have ambitions of being a top 6 club folks.

Time to bite the bullet and watch us compete with the likes of sunderland and stoke next season for a midtable slot.

    Prove me wrong Martinez please.

Just because the manager isn't your choice.

  5. Martinez would be a totally underwhelming appointment if it's him, given the calibre of manager that's available out there at the moment.

Is he the man to get us into the Champions League? Of course not.

He's a man who will agree to work with a limited budget. Martinez would just about sum up our limited ambition as a club, and we will lose our best players (again). The board had the chance to appoint a manager who could have created a real buzz of optimism around the whiole place and perhaps persuaded the better players that their future lay at VP.

    Dperessing if it's true.

We will not get in the Champions League without spending above 100Million.

  6. I agree with you Stu. We will not get Champions League anytime soon without spending megabucks. Lets be brutally honest Spurs sell their allocation no problem even Everton do, we have us who threaten to return ours if the board don't act in a specific way. Us fans want to shop at Aldi when we demand ST prices remain low but then want our owner to shop at Harrods. He has enquired for Ancellotti and no doubt he requested permission to speak to Moyes but to put it in simple terms they don't want to come to us.

Then we should not promise it in the first place.

At least we now know why our best players want to **** off :winkold:

At the time they promised it was a time when the beast of City wasn't around. City have blown it out of the water, no doubt someone will mention Spurs who by the way have spending considerable amounts for years. I honestly believe we would have got Champions League had we appointed someone other than MON and i was a fan of his, just think of the money he's spunked up the wall, it's laughable. We laugh at Benitez but just look at how much money he has spent on defenders.

    Knight 4.5

    Davies 10

    Cuellar 7.8

    Collins 5

    Dunne 6

    Warnock 8

    Shorey 4.5

    Young 5.5

    then you add

    Harewood 4.5

    Sidwell 5

    Heskey 3.5

Whats scary is that the last 3 is the money which equates to us buying Bent from Spurs.

  7. MysteryMan

I don't think the Wigan chairman is the only chairman where we have requested permission to speak to the contracted manager . I may be wrong on this I simply cannot believe that someone else with maybe a better pedigree has not been sought after . I also think they will interview 3 people not one I do not know if all of the other candidates are dead in the water now nobody has came out and said officially they are or confirmed we are in for them anyway . I said from day 1 about Hughes and McClaren and stick by it they won't happen . The biggest problem in all this is Villa are trying to do it by the book they are not going round touting for other managers in the public domain but trust me there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than anyone knows about . So no I don't think Martinez is the only show in town but it can change like it does on transfers by the day . The Benitez info was from a sky source ?? yes under consideration but went nowhere .

  8. Martinez won't stand for shit. The more I'm reading, the more I think he might be alright.

I really like him. He is a much better choice IMO than Mclaren, Hughes, Rafa etc... Ancelotti would of course be fantastic, but the problem with him is that I cant see him stay with Villa long term anyway... Martinez is 37 and could stay with us for a long long time if he has does well.

I really don't understand this loyalty factor.

If martinez comes and does really well - and a top european club comes in - you think he will stay ?

The only way he will stay is if he does avaerage. then we will have the stability that we crave.

I think loyalty is the wrong word, I think theirs a vision and a plan to move Villa forward as we do not have the financial muscle for the short term to reach where we want to go. In Martinez, i think they want to stop repeating this cycle of changing managers every 4 years or so and actually someone who can develop within the club. He is a promising manager, people say well he got battered a few times i.e. a few thrashings, have we forgotten what Chelsea did to us?
