You might be right kkr and Bent would get goals, but something tells me Huntelaar could be another Van Nistelrooy.
Boruc £6mil, Luke Young £2mil, Sneijder £12mil, Huntelaar £15mil. (Jagielka or Taylor as utility player £5mil)Gordon £10M, NRC £8M, Bellamy £8-10M Matty Taylor £5-6M, Jagielka £5M
May well have to fork out more
My Maths that's adds up to about £39M
for such a huge investment the team just wouldnt look a lot stonger
That's £40 mil spent and would make us look a lot stronger imo.
Would rather have Bent at that price or cheaper.

I have to disagree with you on Bouma, imo he is going to be a great player for us over the next couple of years. So we are in for Matty Taylor are we?5M mentioned is a good price I guess.
Kind of annoying Spurs got Gareth Bale, I wouldn't mind a left back with those capabilities from set-pieces, Bouma has proved himself to be pretty awful.
Is MON getting Taylor as a LB? LM? Cover?

Craig Bellamy versus Alan Smith (pick a winner) Who would you rather see at Villa Park?

I have a couple of good mates who are Man City season ticket holders and they haven't been impressed with Distin for the last couple of seasons." Lazy, uncommitted, mistake ridden and temperamental" is their view of him and they definitely did not want him to sign a new contract. Apparently the way he's played against us recently is the exception not the norm, they also say that Dunne is a much better Cb.Just cos we cant think of a better alternative than Distin doesnt mean MON cant. I'm with Richard. I havent seen any business yet that has made me envious or frustrated.PS According to the Mirror, Taylor is gonna cost 5m.
He is also 30yrs old in december and maybe Mon has someone younger and more ambitious in mind.

Defo is too small to play in goal surely! With Man Utd rumoured to be after Gordon I would make a bid for Foster. He won't stay if they sign Gordon.Defo, I was thinking the exact same thing.
That would be a great signing. I find it hard to believe that they are contemplating blocking his ascent to the Man.Utd first team - he looks a certain star to me

I typed TRANSFER MARKET in capitals because if you want to shop in any market for top class goods you can only do so if you have the money.
Valencia are rumoured to have offered between 8-10 million pounds for Sneijder that was rejected and like a lot of so called big clubs they may not be able to come up with any more cash. We can, so that makes Villa a real player in the european TRANSFER MARKET this summer imo.I would be astounded if we got Sneijder to be honest. I'm not a pessimist by any stretch, but some players really are a link too far. It does show where we're trying to get to though, the fact that we're strongly linked. I'd say a cheeky bid for van Bommel tooWell i would imagine with the amount of money coming into the Premier League this coming season it will most likely end up being a destination for a whole host of European talent. So taking that into account and the fact we are backed by a billionaire and i would most definitely say that we are major players in this transfer market!
I just hope it plays out that way also!
There will be a lot of Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch and German clubs who can only look on because they have nowhere near enough money to compete with the buying power of the Premier League, and Villa are in a top four position when it comes to funds and ambition.

I seem to remember that Mon wasn't to complementary about Appiah whilst commentating for the bbc at the world cup, does any one else remember this or is it just my faulty memory?F365 is linking us with Fenerbahce's midfielder Stephen Appiah. He is the captain of the Ghanaian national team and was voted one of the top 10 all stars of the 2004 olympic football tournament.Impressive list of achievements including helping Juventus to a Serie A title.Definitely in the "world class" category.Hope this isn't just a rumour. -
I honestly believe that this will be the most exciting and successful transfer window ever for Villa fans.No links in the papers, i dont know weather this is a good thing or not(come on we all like reading transfer gossip). The first major signing will see were we think we will be going in the summer. I am pretty nervous to be honest. You hear about West Ham and Sunderland spouting off who they are going to sign. I dont know im just nervous this summer for different and better reasons. -
It's the thought not the spelling Rigo, good shout. :winkold:Like Micheal Essien, Christiano Ronaldo, Ubafemi Martins.
Are they Michael, Cristiano and Obafemi's brothers?
-
I'm not daft enough to think that we could sign the likes of Drogba, Ronaldo etc now, but there was a time when even they were available for a price we can now afford whilst they were playing in lesser leagues.we wont sign the world class players until we are in the CL..we may get the odd one or two.. but until then we would get players in the lower category.. unless Lerner really throws the bank at them financially which i cant see him doing the way Chelsea did to bring the big names.
-
Drogba, Henri, Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy. They were worth a punt at the time even though they weren't premiership proven. Why not bid for Huntelaar, Sneijder, Ribery et al rather than Defoe, Sidwell, NRC etc.
Yeah, just go for foereigners with fancy names, they are always better than proven premiership quality....
-
A lot of you seem to lack confidence in the ability of Villa to sign top class players. Media pundits are now starting to speculate about Aston Villa as the club most capable of joining the top 4 and yet still we talk about signing other clubs cast offs!
Mon will be targeting the kind of top players that other clubs don't want to lose if he is to back up the well publicised ambitions of our new board, so shouldn't we be concentrating on deals where financial clout and AVFC's ambition can win out? Why not bid for Huntelaar, Sneijder, Ribery et al rather than Defoe, Sidwell, NRC etc.
Watching the top teams last season demonstrated that the reason they are a class apart is because they have two or three outstanding players who win matches for them. How many more games would Villa win if we had three more outstanding individual players in our team?
-
I disagree Amo, Fletcher, O'shea, Brown, Richardson, Heinze, Sylvestre, Smith and Solskjaer would not take Villa into the top six or to the champions league.Digs that is not the best recommendation O'Shea and Brown have one too !!!Haha!! Very true!
......and Kieran Richardson!!
O'Shea was crucial to United winning the league, thats when Phil Neville and referee's weren't helping out.
As much as I hate Man U and it hurts to say this I think everyone of there players would improve our squad.
-
He's slow, and I can't remember the last time he impressed me going forward. He can tackle but that's about it imo.Have any of you been watching heinze this season???He has been garbage! Was quality last season before he got injured but he's been truly awful this season.Just because he plays for Man U doesn't automatically mean hes good, would have bouma ahead of him any day.Plus, he'd want big wages and hes getting on.Would be a big mistake signing him in my opinionHe's getting on?? he's 28 years old. At his peak. He has been in and out the team this season so even if he he hasn't been at his best that doesn't make him a crap player all of a sudden. I think we've all seen enough of him over the last few years for both Man U and Argentina to know he is a quality defender! Just needs a fresh start.
Agreed.
-
Thank god there's another sober Villan on here tonight!Have any of you been watching heinze this season???He has been garbage! Was quality last season before he got injured but he's been truly awful this season.Just because he plays for Man U doesn't automatically mean hes good, would have bouma ahead of him any day.Plus, he'd want big wages and hes getting on.Would be a big mistake signing him in my opinionPS
Wow, I've started page three hundred and we're still no closer to guessing who we're going to sign!
-
I hope you lot are joking, Heinze? Bouma is head and shoulders above yet another struggling Manc!say we did sign Heinze, would put a huge doubt on Bouma, despite his performances last season I am not sure he has convinced MON for some reasonthe other names I think are more than feasible
Heinze is class, undisputed class.
Bouma had a good season, but is it a permanent? I imagine thats what MON might be thinking, if there is any truth to these links.
-
I think that we need a striker who is a class above the current crop of british strikers. If he costs 20 million euros then I think Randy will happily pay it.Like the look of himReminds me a lot of the style of Darren Bent
The fact that he's in a lesser league and not with the big boys of that league suggests to me that he is very gettable and would welcome a move to England.
Forget Bellamy, Smith and Nugent, it's gotta be this lad or Darren Bent for me.
Would love him but £10m wouldn't get him. They want about e20m which is what £14m?
-
A good no nonsense summing up of where we're at imo.Is it me or should we be looking at getting better strikers than other peoples cast offs!Smith and the no necked thug would have been good signings under the old regime, however with the backing we now enjoy combined with the popularity of the league in general surely it would be better to go for one of Europe’s leading marksmen such as Huntelaar or Alves.
Who knows, they may turn out to be next years Berbatov!
-
Sad to say Owen would be to much of a gamble imo. Why risk having a great player on the treatment table as much as Owen unfortunately is, when the same money in transfer fee and wages would buy a fit goal machine like Huntelaar.
-
Chelsea need cover more than most teams due to the number of games they play and Sidwell wouldn't let them down on the occasions they called on him, but imo he would do well to talk to the likes of Scott Parker and SWP whose careers have been affected by their decision to sign for Chelsea.Anyone else think the Chavskis cunning plan involves signing up as many of the top players as rot in the reserves squad additions.... JUST so they don't go and play for the competition??!!!..True! I think above average premiership players are gonna start seeing a move to Chelsea for what it is soon though- professional suicide.
-
Sidwell is an athlete with a good attitude and reasonable technique, but who would he replace? Barry is better on the ball and Gardner will score more goals from centre midfield. Petrov could be excellent for us if he settles and gets really fit in the same way that Bouma did.
So is Sidwell good enough, or should we be looking even higher?
-
Have you noticed that 4 of them are midgets and the other two believe that football should be a non contact sport!Yes I do.But would you rather have 5 £10M signings or 10 £5M signings?
Id rather have 3 £10m and 4 £5m. But even then I look at newcastle and just hope we dontturn into them. Dont worry I dont think we will, but look at the top class (champions league) player that have gone up there.
Owen
Luque
Martins
Duff
Emre
Parker
And they're still shit. :winkold:
