Not all of our new signings will be young and long term, short term experience from players who have been there and done it could be invaluable next season.Second choice to whom?!I dont know, but signing or attempting to sign a 31 year old seems like were going for second best to me.
But it means we're also buying the finished article that can go straight out on the pitch and contribute immediately - not to mention single-handedly solving our troublesome rightback slot. We can't buy all promising youngsters. The average age of the CL winning Milan team was 31.
Good point about Milan.

A bit of bondage to pass the time until July 1st eh Mazrim.I usually hear the odd thing but I havent heard much lately. There is so many new staff at VP now that its hard to find anything out. Everything is very hush hush at the moment.I think a few deals have already been tied up though. There are still a hell of a lot of people on holidays. Players, managers and agents included. Plus, nothing official can really be announced yet as the window isnt open. For all we know, ALL our targets could be tied up already.

Randylion, you sound fairly definite about Sneijder. How sure are you that Mon doesn't rate him as a 10 mil player.
-
(Sureshot) When Mon says that "I am not sure whether we are all going for the same players" that excites me because it points more towards foreign players imo.
Or does it mean that they are going for better players than us?
I think he just knows that no-one else will be interested in Titus Bramble
-
I know that Mon is the master of tautology BOF, but I really do have a good feeling about this.Possibly VBG. Or it could be another example of a clever MON tautology. To say that he is not sure of something another club is doing is just that. It neither means we are or are not going for any specific type of player and is MON being his ever coy self. -
No way Richard.(Sureshot) When Mon says that "I am not sure whether we are all going for the same players" that excites me because it points more towards foreign players imo.Or does it mean that they are going for better players than us?

Angel, Samuel, Hendrie, Davis, Djemba Djemba, Sutton (?) Delaney (?) and Olejnik and Henderson gone or going. The first seven were on good money, so it makes sense to move on players who will not figure. Could McCann and Hughes be next? What about Sorensens future if we sign either Boruc or Gordon?
Whatever happens the squad is going to look a lot different next season.
-
He is a left back and that is one of our strongest positions with Bouma imo. I know that Lahm is right footed but he likes to cut in from the left so although he is a superb footballer I would look to spend his considerable transfer fee elsewhere.OS rumour site linking us with Phillipe Lahm, probably a relation of Philip Lahm. What source was that?I would have kittens if we got Lahm, no way he'd come to us though.

I far preferred reading Tricellas well written and obviously heartfelt post.Post of the year!
Has to be close.
It was accurate and to the point.
Good comedy timing as well after Tricella's essay.

All three now have questions marks about character and attitude:Let's face it Parker, NRC and Barton are involved in a transfer triangle. If Parker goes the destination of the other two will be resoved quickly. As for which one to Villa - You have NRC and Barton, two players who have 'baggage' and rumours surrounding them. Therefore, it's down to ability. My own opinion is Barton is superior, he has a physique more suited to midfield, height and scores more goals. Under the right manager I think he could be a great player.
Parker: homesick, needs to be in London? He has only played consistently well under Curbishley.
NRC: maybe psychologically damaged by the abuse of the past season. (including world cup treatment by McClaren)
Barton: a thoroughly unpleasant and dangerous psychopath who may well be jailed for his latest uncontrolled thuggery.
I still think that Sneijder is a much better option. I'll just keep hoping!

Sheffield Utds' lawyers will be tracking the transfer fee very carefully!I take it all back Jez, talk of Ronaldinho (Yes, I know you were joking) and Tevez - not a chance! He's gonna be going for around 25mill!and who will the money end up with???? :winkold:
-
I think Tevez might run a mile from anything claret and blue at the moment.I dunno if this has been discussed (haven't read all 479 pages!).Would we want Tevez? and do think he would come to us if we tried to bid for him? how much?
Would he fit in our team? and who else would we be fighting to sign him?
-
You may well be right Jez, the "top class players" that we have been told we will be targeting may well play in other positions but I'm sure that we will have ago for at least a couple of top players.Reo-Coker no thanks, sneijder, van der vaart yes pleaseMON could only be interested in Reo-Coker though, for example.
-
Sneijder and Van der Vaart are an example of the definition of top class signings. Either one would certainly sell some season tickets.Reo-Coker no thanks, sneijder, van der vaart yes please -
Stuart Pearce? If Gardner is better than reo-coker,why hasn't he been looked at for the England U21's?I'm all for supporting villa players but its mad to say gardner is better than Reo-Coker who has been quality in the last three or four years at first team level as well as captaining the U21's.Gardner had a good end to the season but he's hardly set the world alright, think some people have got a little carried away with how good he actually is or can be.I have watched Gardner play dozens of times for the academy, reserves and first team and I along with a number of other "reserve afficionados" have been saying for some considerable time that he could become a Villa legend. So my judgement is based on longterm experience and not just a knee jerk reaction.
-
Gardner seems to have a much higher opinion of Villa than you Jez and when the big clubs do come knocking he'll turn them down.Oh claret and blue specs on i see, if Gardner is so good then we better brace ourselves for Man Yoo and Arsenal to come and buy him, as what happened with NRC last summer! -
Gardners aim is to score ten goals next season, NRC might be ok as a defensive midfielder but will never score that many goals and Craig is better in all departments.NRC is better than Gardner. Was he better at age 20 than Gardner is now?
-
Absolutely not Jez!NRC is better than Gardner. -
Bouma will be the best left back in the Premiership next season so I don't see us signing a "name." O'Halloran will probably be regarded by Mon as adequate cover...For those of you that say Taylor will stay at Pompey..Who would you realistically think we would/could sign.
** Keeping in mind they are competing with Bouma for that place!**
And your own personal fav on who you would want there at LB.
-
I do not have much time for Koumas after his well documented antics in the past, but I have to admit that he looked a very good player yesterday.Sorry Pelle, your argument doesn't really stand up.Maybe not. So you think we should buy half the WBA first team to take us to the top?
-
I wouldn't bet on it!Teamtalk are linking us to a raid of liverpool's kewell and bellamy.Wouldn't mind both of them tbh.Kewell when fit is an assett. He seems to do well for australia when he plays. He could be available cheap too because of his previous injury.Surely Kewell can't be injured for the rest of his career? -
Sneijder is in Thailand with Bouma for a week on national team duty, he will be brainwashed claret and blue by the time Freddie has finished with him.I don't think Sneijder future is decided yet. Many Dutch players said in the past they wanted to play in Spain or Italy but came to Premiership. He is still 22 years old and if MON speaks personally who knows :winkold: -
