As a Labour voter I'd be happy to see a minority Tory Government or a Tory/LD alliance. The City may want savage cuts and the public may say that they understand the need for them but I'm far from convinced that savage cuts in public spending is a vote winner.
Six months ago I thought Labour would be out in the wilderness for as long as the Tories post 97. Now I don't think so.
-
Cameron reaching out to the Lib Dems. Have no doubt that he and Clegg would be happy to work together, not nearly so sure about the party rank and file in both parties.
Can't see many Lib Dems being happy being allied to a Tory party which is proposing massive cuts in public spending and no commitment to introducing PR.
-
Trevor Kavanagh bleating about the inequity of the system whereby the Tories need more votes to win seats. No doubt the Sun will be advocating the introduction of PR to ensure true fairness in the voting system.
-
However, the sooner we get some form of PR then the sooner
yeah good luck with that
It's not a labour policy (and nor was it until around 01:30 this morning once it became apparent they were being spanked ) and it's only the libs that proposed it and based on their bad showing last night I somehow don't see them carrying as much weight as they believed they would
Spanked, I don't see that really. "Call me Dave" stated the UK wanted change and he would deliver a knock out blow to Labour, if that's the Tory definition of a knock out blow then god help all of us, it's more of a limp wristed stroke of the face which kind of sums the party up as a whole I think.
Labour has lost 85 seats, 6.5% of the vote and trail the popular vote by over two million. It’s a little more than a tickling.
After 13 years in power, the most severe recession in decades and a leader widely criticised as being deeply unpopular - a seeming perfect storm - and still the Tories couldn't win enough seats to form a majority.
-
Bloody hell - just woke up and found out that Zak Goldsmith has been elected as my MP. Just hope if I have any problems it crops up during the 3 months or so he's in the country.
-
If Labour have done such a good job these past 13 years, why are they not walking it?
If they've done as bad as job over the last 13 years as many would have you believe then it makes you wonder why the Tories don't appear to have walked this election.
-
Had to check that we hadn't lost judging by some of the comments on here.
I don't think we played nearly as bad as many have suggested. We got into a number of positions but weren't nearly clinical enough. Had our best 2 strikers taken their chances we would have won very comfortably. As it was there was only going to be one winner.
Just 4 more games to win now!

This whole debate about which club out of Villa and Spurs is the biggest brings back the quote about two bald men fighting over a comb.
-
We are at least still in with a slim chance of the top 4, although clearly we are the outsiders as we cannot afford any more slip ups. I still think Citeh are the favourites.
We have the same points as Liverpool and a similar run in but whereas we're outsiders they are one of the favourites to get 4th. Not too sure why that is bearing in mind they have hardly set the world alight away from Anfield. I would agree that there is no margin for error in the run in.
As for today - pleased as punch with the result. Nothing less than a win would do and the players showed great character following last week's mauling. Now to stuff Terry's words back down his throat.
-
There is also one name that stands out
Martin Jol
However, why he would quit the biggest club in his home country is beyond me, should have pounced last year.
Billy Davies - just to clarify here - I AM NOT SAYING I WANT HIM !!! - but he strikes me as a modern day Graham Taylor. I actually think, given backing he could do a very decent job for a top team. It wouldn't be attractive, but it would be successful.
Martin Jol it should be remembered failed to achieve top 4 football when at Spurs after the club spent shed loads of cash (admittedly by whoever was the DOF at the time).
Billy Davies???? I can see that appointment shifting scores of season tickets.
None of the names I've seen mentioned who we could realistically attract are as good as the manager that we currently have (imo of course). I reckon he'll be still here come next season and I for one will be very happy if that's the case.
-
Based on our recent history I'm not sure that we can afford to be blase about getting to Wembley so I for one am looking forward to the semi am hoping to have trip there before the season's out.
-
Wins against Wigan and Wolves and this will be a very good point.
Citeh and L'pool also drew at Stoke. Spurs at the Britannia next week so hopefully they'll do no better than us.
-
Just got back. Didn't make it into the stadium though having been quoted £400 by touts for tickets. Watched in the pub.
Heard on the way back that there were manyoo fans in the Villa end. That's ridiculous, they could have sold their tickets and bought ones in their own end for half the price. I'd have happily bought ones in the utd end and swapped with them.
There were a few Utd fans in the club class above us but none amongst the main body of the villa fans. I could also see a couple of villa flags in the club class at the Utd end.
-
Just back from Wembley.
Pre match was absolutely brilliant. It was mobbed with Villa all down the Harrow Road, everyone having a great time and not a glory hunter to be seen.
As for the game. Don't think we were nearly as bad as some have suggested. From where I was stood couldn't see whether Gabby was through on goal but was amazed no one was booked for the foul that led to the pen. Dowd generally was a grade A prick - seemed determined not to book any Utd players whilst waving yellows at us with gay abandon.
I thought first half was pretty even but second half Man U bossed things and thoroughly deserved their win.
Lessons to be learned. Full backs have to offer an attacking outlet. Carlos is not a right back. We were much more productive after he went off. MON should play Luke and decide between Carlos and Collins at CH. Our forwards worked their socks off but don't carry enough of a goal threat. Ashley needs to be stronger when attacking full backs.
Every result has gone against us this weekend but no reason for the season to come crashing to a halt. A win against Reading and we're back at Wembley. That should give us impetus for the winnable league games to come.

those wearing villa shirts to the game- are you going with the claret and blue, or the away strip? i normally dont like to wear different colours to what the players on the pitch are in...
I'd like to know peoples opinions on this too
Home shirt for me. Most people should wear claret and blue, that's our traditional colours, not white!
Agreed, I really don't care what colour they are wearing on the day, as we are claret and blue. Going to look a bit silly if people all go in white as Villa support....
Seeings as ManUre fans will be doing a passable impersonation of Norwich tomorrow I wouldn't overly worry about what to wear.
-
Not sure that anyone is saying that there is no chance of Everton finishing above us. That said it would take a repeat of last season's collapse which I just don't see happening.
-
Was at Selhurst today. We obviously weren't at our best but I didn't think we were as bad as some are suggesting. As Wolves showed in the last round it's very easy to lose these games. Provided we get through no one will remember we were within a couple of minutes of going out.
The Palace team and their fans were well up for the game and fair play to them. The fans created probably the best atmosphere I've experienced this season.
-
REST some players Martin.
Use your squad FFS please.
Why do I suspect that if we get knocked out playing a weakened team MON will get slaughtered for passing up the chance of winning the Cup.
FWIW I reckon we will see several changes a la the Brighton game. Won't be easy but should be enough to beat Palace.
-
Shame we didn't make the extra man count but 4 points off united is nothing to sneeze at.
We are only 2 points behind 4th with a game in hand, there is no way I thought we would be this close after the run of fixtures we have been through.
Completely agree.
The last few weeks have been about staying in touch with our rivals which we have done. During the difficult run of fixtures I have been willing to accept the sometimes poor standard of play.
Will not be so understanding if we are unable to step up a level for the games against Burnley and Sunderland.
-
yes in my experience anyway (i lived up there a couple of years)
from my experience the old 'there are more man city fans and no man utd fans in manchester' thing is a myth - if anything i met more man utd fans than man city fans.
sorta like when the blues say there are a lot more blues fans in birmingham than villa
however, that might just be my experience
All the mancs I know support Utd. The inferior team in any city have to peddle the 'we're the true team of the city shite' - see Citeh, Everton and the Noses - because they have nothing else to say and in every case it's total bull.
As for the game reckon it'll be our current fave score of 0-0.
-
Will happily take a point from this one.
-
Just got home - hooray for games in SW London. Thought we were comfortably in chagre all game. Back 4 was immense and couldn't see Fulham scoring. Petrov, Young and Gabby also stood out for me. All in all a very good day topped off by Spuds conceding a last minute equaliser.
Now just to thaw out!
-
My favourite away game because its the nearest PL ground to where I live and it will make a pleasant change to be home by 6. In footballing terms I've been to every game since Fulham went back to the Cottage and we haven't won one. Must be something about the air beside the river.
If we are serious about a top 4 finish then we need to take 4 points from the Fulham/Spurs games. Won't be easy but then Fulham are hardly pulling up any trees at the moment. Reckon we'll sneak a 1-0 win.
-
Bearing in mind the games to come would have taken a point before the game so not unhappy with a draw. I suspect the Arse felt the same.
Important thing is not to get cut off from our rivals during this tricky run of fixtures. Tonight was a decent start.

Would have preferred a minority Tory govenment but can live with a Tory/lib pact. After 18 months of savage con/lib cuts to public spending (never a vote winner), the Libs will finally recover their conscience, pull out of the coalition and the tories will go on to lose a confidence vote. The majority of Lib voters will register their disgust at voting Clegg and ending up with Cameron and Labour under a new leader will win the next election. Job's a good 'un.
