  1. Reading the forums of the other top 6 teams they all assume that we will fade away when our 'luck' runs out and we have injuries. Suits me if everyone wants to underestimate us.

A full strength Arsenal would be a good 5-10 points better than us in my opinion but this isn't a full strength Arsenal team and it won't be before the end of the season. Everyone keeps saying they will improve and leave us trailing but there's no been no recent evidence to suggest this will be the case. Everton are durable and should not be underestimated but it is entirely conceivable they could be more than 10 points behind us after the next 3 games; a gap which won't be easy to make up. If we have injuries to key players then we will suffer but then so would any team and it's not inevitable that we will have any major injuries.

A month ago I would have said we won't finish 4th but now I think our chances are 50/50.

  2. It's hardly surprising that people struggle to find any enthusiasm for friendlies - which is what we've had to put up with for the last few months - or for games against the might of Andorra. Qualifiers hardly produce mass excitement full stop.

Fact is that all the England home qualifiers will sell out and I bet that if we qualify for the WC there will be the usual massive interest in the national team (followed by the usual disappointment when we flop out in the QF)

  3. General there will be any number of people demanding that you reveal details of planned transfer activity in the light of the comments allegedly made by Barry in the NOTW.

No other club would outline their transfer plans in public - except for the beneath contempt redscouse - so I for one will be fully supportive if you maintain your position on not discussing transfers.

  4. Had tickets for the yankees opener this week but it was called off because of the weather - last season in their stadium etcThe chappy in the hotel that we gave the tickets to thought it was Xmas - got a few free beers out of it

It aint a bad game really, a lot more abuse from the fans than you think especially when the Red Sox are in town

Are the Yankees moving from Yankee stadium?

Went in 2005 during my mate's stag to NYC. Didn't really get all the nuances of the game but enjoyed the day and Yankee Stadium was a great sporting arena.

  5. Good for TV ratings in the UK.

    Not good for ratings worldwide.

    Good for English football.

    Bad for us.

I don't agree with this part. The Big 4 are by far away the biggest draw in this country and a game not involving the big 4 will not attract as many neutrals. A Man Utd Chelsea final would always attract more viewers than say a Pompey Cardiff final.

That said it's good for football that there are 2 teams for whom winning the FA Cup will be a massive achievement rather than a consolation prize in lieu of the PL.

  6. The Big 3 (Seeings as the Arse don't do the English thing) will almost certainly ensure that their players are not fit enough for any tournament so that they're fresh for the money spinning pre season jaunt to the Far East.

Any HN tournament would just emphasise that we weren't good enough to qualify for the real tournament. Would rather take the summer off and start again in September.

  7. What has MON done for us except a mid-table finish and a couple of dodogy transfer market buys, and a defeat to pretty ordinary Man City.

When we get only a point or a loss to Everton people will start realising he isn't all that.

And I still don't see what MON has achieved except for a few poxy titles in Scotland where Petrov looked a player?

    :?

I wonder if Newcastle or Citeh fans are also slating their managers for not winning anything after 10 mins or is it just a villa thing?

FWIW I think that Mourinho is a great manager, agree with everything you've said about his time at Porto and Chelsea, but to criticise MON for not being as successful as Mourinho is just plain daft. The Chelsea that Mourinho inherited was miles better than the team MON inherited at VP. If MON is to be criticised for not being as successful as JM then the same is true of all the managers in the Prem with the exception of SAF and Wenger.

  8. If we were to suffer injuries to key players then we would struggle but then the same is true of any team in the PL. I just don't see that the likes of West Ham, B'burn, Pompey Everton etc are that much stronger in depth than us that they wouldn't struggle with injuries to key players.

Assuming that we are not unduly unlucky with injuries, that we buy a decent RB and a couple of other squad players then 5th-7th is not unrealistic.

  9. Why does everyone think the media is against us? If it's not Gale, it's Lawro and if it's not Lawro it's Le Tiss. In my experience the media (and most supporters of other clubs) are completely indifferent to the Villa. Most can't be bothered enough to dislike us. Chill out peeps when we storm into the top 5 then they'll have enough reasons to dislike us.

  10. I would rather have Reo-Coker than McCann, so it is a step up.

From the little I know of him I know he is good going forward.

Depends whether we would be getting last season's version, an excellent footballer, or this season's, bertie big bollocks who thinks he should be playing for ManUre or the Arse. At £3m he'd be worth a punt though.
