Just saw that Luca Toni went to Bayern Munich for GBP 7.5m. I just don't get it -players not even half as good as him are being linked to us for higher prices. Where is the logic? Do English clubs just get held for ransom?

That's the key to why maybe Villa won't irk too much if we have to pay a bit more than maybe they'd like...the £s from the increased TV revenue if we get success and shown more often on the Tele will far outweigh any capital outlays!

I wouldn't be interested in signing Smith for any significant amount, non goalscoring strikers are not in real demand. We have had too many of those in the past, I think we should go more for the goalscoring kind of striker. :?

Dont think anyones said we've actually talked to him. A player can instantly decide if he'd like to play for a club which would then mean personal terms arent much of a problem.

As NRC is captain of the U21s he'll probably be interviewed after the game as the commentators have mentioned will be interesting to hear his comments when asked about speculation

personally I think MON is a very shrewd man and we wouldn't be putting in a bid for a lost cause nor on the day a player is playing for his country as U21 captain unless it was sorted....

he's got his man IMO as his agent seems to have confirmed to WM earlier!

No he's a very creative midfielder/wide player by all accounts. Everytime I've watched Celtic and OK that's not that much I have always thought he was good in open play. But he does specialise in dead ball situations like Beckham.

Everyone stands if allowed at away games and Villa fans are brilliant... sing all the time! But whether we sit or stand IMHO we still need a song to call our own and one which hopefully gets the other parts of the ground joining in! Even the Sky commentators mentioned the level of noise created after Berger's goal V Sheff Utd cos the whole ground resounded to "and its Aston Villa, Aston Villa FC...." Just a shame if we can't come up with something unique that most are happy with singing? Do most want to contact the General about Land of Hope???!!!

i have just heard a rumour from a guy at work, i work in a private leisure centre and i got talking to a guy about football, and he assured me that his mate who is a private investigator was given a job on someone in a hotel in leicester and he texted him while on the job saying that MON was havin a meeting with none other than Jermaine Defoe. i am in no way suggesting this rumour to be true before people start hating me if this doesnt happen, im just saying what this guy told me, to be fair he doesnt seem the bullshitting type. he is adamant this is not a made up rumour.

FWIW, I think a version "land of hope and glory" could make a decent anthem for us.

I think it may work too...Like I said if that's what everyone wants then let the General know!!

But as we've said before nowt is gonna happen unless the club get involved and no doubt some will object to Land of Hope being adopted cos they don't like it.....

What I suggested that could be an answer is if the club actually commission a professional to write a new song or adapt an existing song. But again I don't think the club want to impose something on the fans. It's difficult like the General said they're caught in the middle.

This was posted a few weeks ago, it would work at Villa Park,

We at Villa lack this kind of an anthem. If you have ever listened to the BBCs annual Last night of the proms you cannot have failed to be moved by the rousing rendition of the "English anthem" Land of hope and glory that always closes the evening, it is awesome. The poem is about pride and history in the land that we call home. With that in mind I've adapted a version that I believe could be sung loud and proud by Villa fans.

The debate about which song is chosen is like a never ending circle!.. No song is going to please everyone but for goodness sake why not try something else?!!! Someone called VIVA a bit Chas and Dave anyhow (can't get more english than that!!) If you look at link on You Tube then sorry I can't see or hear anything else but everyone singing and clapping to a football song, maybe it does come from a naff German pop song which certainly isn't my cup of tea but that's not the point it made a song in Cologne that was sang at the last world cup and it sounded awesome when the crowd got it going!

Sorry to seem thick but as I lived during my early teens about 2miles down the road from the Baggies ground..... so I make it a rule NOT to watch them, which position exactly does Koumas play...I thought he was midlfield?
