  1. I've gone for 4-5-1, BUT formations should vary on teams and different games.

They should... if you have the players to play different formations. I personally feel that at the moment our combination of midfielders are best as a centre three and that you should play to your own strengths first and foremost

  2. Show's fickleness IMO!

People say there not just moaning about this game but if they said stay at the end of last season, then saynig No now is abit stupid. Like Everton wanting Moyes sacked.

Although, of course, many of those saying stay at the end of the season could have been doing so under the proviso that the summer would see us strengthen and that going into the new season we would be prepared and ready.

Instead we stumble into the season weaker in most departments on the field and ill prepared for the coming season. Maybe MON will bring in a couple more players to the squad but by then we could very easily be out of Europe and 9pts adrift of those teams that we are supposed to be competing with. Peoples frustrations are not born of just this one result.

Personally I really, reeeally just want to see us pass the ball around and look like a proper team

  3. The problem I have with MON is that I can't see him progressing past where he has taken us. I think he has reached his limit. We play dull route one football, we lose possesion constantly and only have one attacking tactic. I had hoped MON would learn that we need to keep the ball if we hope to progress to Champions league standard, I had hoped he would see the need to play to the players strengths rather than force them into a system which does not suit them. I had hoped for some entertaining football.

I would keep MON for this season because I don't think we will be in too much danager of going down and I feel the distabilising factor of replacing a manager at this time would outweigh the possible positives of seeing him go. Next summer, however, I would look into trying to find a manager who could possibly take us that step further.

  4. Wigan were bigger, stronger, faster, technically and tactically superior, simply a better team from 1-11

no shame in losing to a far better team imo

Then i ask you this? Why are they bigger, why stronger, why faster, technically superior and a better team?No shame in losing, the shame is in not playing football.

So your saying The wigan organisation from top to bottom is better than Villas?Who is responsible for the side on the pitch today?

    Can you not recognise sarcasm?

  5. MON has a rolling contract so that means he can get out when the going gets tough !

So do as you please MON and **** off ! Some of the shit thats on display is your fault an the money you wasted is also you fault. TIME TO GO

name someone better or shut up

    Alan Curbishley !

    Seriously?

Not saying MON is the man but if the swap is for Alan 'Midtable' Curbishley I wouldn't see the point

Except Curbs got his clubs their with no money !

it took MON 100m ! i know what i,d rather have

You do realise you could use that description for MON before he joined us as well don't you?

  7. Oxford will be a little unhappy about our squad I would have thought, they've advertised the game with a photo of Gabby and they've promised a strong Villa squad on their website as recently as this morning. The peace cup will have done for them, but I'm sure they'll be more than a little peeved.

I'd have more sympathy for them if they weren't fleecing the fans out of £15 in order to watch a friendly! Even if we had put out a full squad that would have been exorbitant!

  8. I see how fickle fans change their minds just coz they are afraid.

He's now up to 9% - I wish Gordon Brown wished he could do the election on here.

90% of Villa fans tonight have slagged a few of us off on one thread for saying we are disappointed with this signing as it isn't what we need,#

However, 4 weeks ago, 93% of Villa fans agreed with us.

Thats not screaming, thats just pointing out the fact !!

And go back 4 months, instead of 4 weeks - and Emile Heskey wasn't just not liked - he was HATED by Villa fans - to a bloody man and woman !!. So please, don't come on here saying how much you've always rated him, coz we all know - he is up there with Robbie Savage on the piss take stakes for villa fans !!

He's coming and thats the end of it , it looks, but please don't try and tell me the last 13 yrs didn't happen

I didn't hate him and I don't hate Robbie Savage either but don't let that stop your quality ranting/ putting words in others mouths

  9. I see good old Emile has jumped a % tonight !!!

It started at 7% - lets see where it ends up when he signs

Seriously, if he comes he comes. But all this "Englands 1stchoice striker stuff is just ridiculous. Whats the competition - it is 99% certain his partner for the next game will be Carlton Cole !!

If we sign him we sign him - but unless you were one of the 7% who actually wanted him before, please don't come on saying how he is "just what we need" - as you certainly didn't think that 4 weeks ago.

Personally, Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent may cost 4 times the price, but they are 6 times the player, with 4 times the amount of career left.

But what do I know !

I happen to agree with you in that I would have preferred a different striker and that Heskey is a strange choice but in the end MON has done rather well with this managing lark so I am prepared to give him the benifit of the doubt and certainly won't be throwing exclamation marks around like they are going out of fashion!!! ( :winkold: )

  10. It shows that 4 weeks ago, before we were linked with him that 93% of Villatalk users believed we needed a different type of player to Heskey - hence the predators like Owen, Defoe , Santa Cruz getting all the votes.

Suddenly, we are linked with Heskey and the same people are saying "we score enough goals, we need someone to rough teams up etc.."

Well I stick to what I said.

If Heskey comes as 4th choice, behind another newcomer and shipping out Harewood, then fine. But if he comes to play in the first team I will be gutted !!!

(oh and by the way, Darren Bent NOR Kenwyne Jones iare in that list, so it is fair to say, Heskey would have probably been below 3 percent if they were !!

As with most statistics you can read them how you want too. The only thing that stands out from the poll for me was that Owen was the overwhelming first choice, other than that it is very much of a muchness as to who people voted for.

  11. Just thought I'd post this !!!!

Well out of 318cof us who voted - about 295 of us DIDN'T WANT HESKEY

So stop being bloody hypocrites !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it shows 295 preferred some one else to Heskey, that doesn't mean he wasn't wanted... but hey if it makes you feel good so you carry on ranting then fill your boots

  12. One Alves a day keeps the moaners away. New board's tactics. Wonder who it is tomorrow. Joao Alves of Sporting perhaps? Fantastic player I'm led to believe.

In Cyber's defence, mademan, he clearly stated 'Afonso' (did his parents have problems spelling, should have been an L in there surely?) in his original post and there HAS been a lot of Dutch football on Eurosport this season. Not that I've seen any of it, of course.

If you don't want a negative response you better keep parents out of this,

His name is spelt AFONSO, as stated here!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afonso_Alves

I think El_Hierro was on about Afonso Alves parents not yours!

  13. All set for another day in which someone or other will wail "Why haven't we signed anybody yet? It's May 28 already!" Ready, steady, go!
Brie, Roquefort, Pont-l'Évêque, Port Salut, Savoyard, Saint-Paulin, Carre-de-L'Est, Boursin, Bresse-Bleu, Perle de Champagne, Camembert?
Sorry sir, I'm afraid they're not for sale.

Glad they aren't for sale, they are all shit

Berthaut's Epoisses and Comte are what we want, you stupid or something

Boursin ain't shit! You clearly know nothing!

Heres a youtube clip that proves everything and thus my word cannot be doubted:

    Foo'

  14. For statos Joey Barton has scored more goals/min, got more assists and interestingly a hell of a lot of crosses for a central midfield player.

Forget the previous incidents - they can be controlled.

He would take us to the next level and would cost 5 million.

If we bought NRC for 8 million I think I'd be very concerned.

I'm interested in how you think Barton could be controlled as the only way I can think of is a course of some aggression reducing drugs. It would be easier if Barton had a bad attitude as this is something you can work on/ change but he is just a psychotic idiot who happens to also be quite good at football.

  15. Bent and Carew would not work together - would both be going for the same ball - 2 big men together don't work - can you name any two big men combinations who have worked? Normally big man / small man combinations are most successful

I'd say the Sutton/ Shearer combination was pretty successful and they were both big men... but I get your point :winkold:

  16. Ellis spent £12 million last summer.

And will probably spend £5 million this summer.

What's the point getting somebody in to just match what Ellis has done?

If I'm reading the quotes correctly than I think that this is the price range of players we would be bringing in. I think that we would not be spending £25m on Ashley Cole just yet but that we might get many players in the £5m-£10m pound range.

Yep thats how I read it too.

  17. In performance wise yes but in terms of finishing its 2 good against 1 bad. 1st 6th, 2nd 10th (i think) mid-table is best we can hope for under Ellis. People were quite happy dismiss them 2 'good' seasons during last season. Now the rubbish season is in the past with the 2 'good' ones so simply put its 2-1. Along with Ellis shutting us down its only gonna get worse unless we have some luck.

The worrying thing is the trend. It doesn't take a genius to work out our current trajectory and where it will lead us. 6th, 10th, 16th, ?. The question is can DOL do something he has never done before and improve on his previous season? If not then we are in deep doo-doo.

I'm generally in the DOL out camp simply because I don't believe he has the ability to create a team and get them playing decent football. His Leeds team were also on a downward trajectory as he added more of his own players to the squad and the same thing is happening at Villa. As more of the squad has become his own the poorer the results and poorer the football.

But hey you are probably right, maybe no manager could get anything going under Ellis in which case we really are screwed cos he ain't going nowhere.

Sadly, unless we change something dramatically at the club, I believe we will be playing in the Championship come 2007-2008.
