For this one you chose which music wave you wanted to run in, so I chose 70s and 80s.

Are you looking to sign up for it?

That's hilarious. Are waves not related to your anticipated time at all?

    Sounds fun, hope it is!

Cheers mate, you too. I'm light years away from getting under 40 minutes, I'm working on getting under 50.

I've had the sniffles for a few months now, which I barely notice until I start running. I did a couple of miles last night and I had to gob every 30 seconds or so, I've left a trail. I don't really like leaving the pavement in a mess, but I'm struggling to breathe properly if I don't get it out. To be fair, most of it ended up dribbling down my chin or on my trainers.

When you gotta spit you gotta spit. I just try to wait until no one is watching.

Anybody doing the Birmingham 10k this weekend? Looks like it's going to be a nice warm one.

I'm hoping to knock 12 minutes off my time from last year, because I've actually been doing a bit of training this time.

Not in Brum but got a 10km in Seoul the following weekend. First 10k race since I first started running years ago, hoping to get under 40 mins but that may prove too ambitious.

Good luck in Birmingham, hope you smash it!

The 2010 day glo orange Marseille shirt with the black/silver/blue horizontal stripes is one of my all time favourite shirts as is the maroon/pink 2010 Lyonnaise away shirt. Funnily enough both Adidas but back when adidas dared to be a bit different.

I had that Marseille shirt. I think it was probably the last football I bought.

Cool!  Sleepy little Korean town sounds like an oxymoron to me!

They all look the same anyway. Paris Baguette, Angle-in-Us, CU and a couple of high rises, the Korean town starter kit.

Errr, on topic.... we should sign some players this summer.

Worth trying to get Paddy McNair from Sunderland? United pedigree, only 22.

I'd be wary of bringing in anyone from Sunderland. We spent ages trying to rid our club of the same negativity that must be effecting everyone at Sunderland.

I don't think it's possible to spend two years as a teenager playing football at a professional club in another European country and fail to learn at least the basics of the local language.

Yes, I know, someone will point out that the local area was Manchester....

I've been living and working in Korea for 7 months. I know "hello", "thank you" and "beer". Learning a language takes effort (I obviously haven't made any) so it's perfectly possible that he spent two years in Manchester without learning anything. I've no idea if that is the case for him, chances are he learnt something, but no guarantees.

Yes it's much harder running on the trails but i dont mind, my biggest concern is all the wild boars that i keep running into, but they say they are only dangerous if you come between them and their kids.

Where are you running? Great to see wildlife on the trail but it can be very scary, especially when there are no other people around.

I get chased by a lot of dogs, but that happens more on the roads than the trails.

Am i the only one who dont care about the time when i run? I stop when i feel like i wanna throw up.

Iam a nature lover so i make sure i run were it's beautiful nature, and soak it all in.

I'm trying to make the switch from roads to trails, so trying to ignore my pace but it's an ingrained habit. I'm getting better but I can't help checking it.  When I'm on the road it's still all about pace and distance covered.

I am really enjoying the nature on the trails but those hills are hard work.

It’s undecided as yet. I asked the Villa the other day but I think it’ll be free and if the Dr has any sense he’ll make it cheap so it’s rammed and has an electric atmosphere.

You would hope it would be rammed with an electric atmosphere whether it's cheap or not, but agree anyway as we need to make sure we have every possible advantage.

Currently on day 17 without any running due to some crap with my hip :(

    That sucks.

I was reading a couple of days ago that although the initial decline in running fitness is pretty fast, it slows pretty quickly, so since you've been out a couple of weeks already, the further time out now won't set you back loads further. May be some consolation.

Anyone use compression socks / tights? I've noticed a lot of people talking about / using them recently and wondering if it's worth it.

I've definitely got the running bug at the moment, but I only see that as a positive thing.

I went for 5 runs last week, probably would have been 6 if it wasn't for the snow on Monday. That's probably too often, but most of them have been short, slow jogs.

Yeah I guess it's all good. I've been going up 6 times a week until recently, trying to cut it down to 5 runs a week but increase the length of my weekend runs, as well as moving them from the roads to the mountain trails.

Done a lot of snow running this winter, it's a hard slog.

  13. Has anyone else been through a point where it feels like running stops being a hobby and starts to be an addiction? I feel like I'm becoming pretty obsessed at the moment. I'm not sure it that's a good thing that will help me run better, or whether it's unhealthy to plan your entire life around a training plan.

    A very important running question:

You get home after work and go straight out for a run. You get back home again and have a shower. There's about 3 hours left before bedtime. For the rest of the evening do you...

a ) Put the pants you've been wearing all day back on, they've still got a few more days left in them

b ) Put on a fresh pair of pants on, you live a life of luxury

c ) Go commando, like a carefree hippy

New pair of pants after the shower, but wear them through to the next day's run.

As predicted with the games now over and the athletes returning home the complaints about the games from them are starting.

One of the first out is the biggest name in the alpine skiing world Marcel Hirschel (2 golds this time) who has slammed the living conditions in the Olympic village and most of all the almost empty stadiums during the events.

I get the financial reasons for putting the Olympics in a sponsor rich place like South Korea, and with 26 million people in a 100 km radius of Pyeongchang there should on paper be enough to fill the stadiums.

But people from the traditional winter Olympic countries won't travel en masse this far, and apparently they failed to sell the happening to the locals.

There are only so many people you can fit in a Short Track skating stadium.

Was a bit bizarre watching all these events in almost empty stadiums when you compare it to let's say Lillehammer.

Just put the Winter Olympics in Norway every time :D

I'm living in S Korea at the moment and went to 4 events. Most of the locals I spoke to weren't uninterested, but they were just put off by the ticket prices. I know quite a few people who went to the Olympic Park and host 'cities' for a day to be 'a part of it' but wouldn't shell out the $40-$60 that most of the basic tickets cost. They also didn't care about the non-Korean athletes.  I can't remember seeing a single event with no Korean athletes covered on TV, apart from the Ice Hockey gold medal game. At the curling I was at the Korean team finished early and half the stadium left immediately, no interest in seeing the 3 other matches still continuing.

Not posted in a long time, but seems worth leaving this here. The situation in the UK is clearly very different from much of the rest of the world but statistics like this are a reminder of why this is such a huge issue. I've lost count of the number of girls who have died in Nepal in the last 12 months as a direct result of chaupaid (being forced to sleep in a barn or cowshed during menstruation).

events happen that effect people's lives all the time , they will get their  chance in years to come , probably when they are older and wiser and thus more likely to vote Tory :)

They won't,  out is out. It would be decades before we could even apply to rejoin realistically, and it takes another decade to negotiate entry.

They will never have a say in this, and certainly not before their working lives and future prospects are settled.

Some believe that. They think we'll trade more with the rest of the world, and without the nasty immigrants stealing our money we'll all be richer.

Mostly, I believe, they are voting because they believe in the good old days and that they can go back to them.

Our economy will be screwed, I have no doubt whatsoever of that.

Bloke in Brussels was saying that in terms of laws and trade we are still bound by them for 2 years from the date we trigger the leave vote ( assuming of course )

So on that basis are the markets reacting on events that are at least  2 years in the future ?

But foreign investment will start to scale back before that. Long term confidence will be down, companies will scale back spending,  think twice before recruiting. That will all happen straight away.

I dont know about that, I suppose times have changed - but I guarantee that giving me or any of my mates the vote at the age of 16 or 17 would be a bad idea...

I work in primary schools,  as a supply teacher. Even at that age I've seen a lot of children very interested in this, and asking some intelligentand reasonable questions. Some 16 and 17 year wouldn't use their vote responsibly, but the same in true of many adults.
