  1. I'm seriously starting to wonder if theres any point in following football anymore with clubs like man city about.

Football is about more than just the money.

Unfortunately, however, if you want to be really successful you have to have loads of it!

yep i know what ur saying, but were never gonna have loads of it. Which means were have our best players taken off us every summer.

  2. id be gutted if he went to be honest, i dont care what money man city offer i wouldnt sell him. this is about us progressing as a club and to do that you need to keep your best players at whatever cost. Im not forking out for a season ticket every season if it means were gonna sell our best player at the end of it. If Milner goes, it will be ashley young next summer then gabby and so on. I'm seriously starting to wonder if theres any point in following football anymore with clubs like man city about.

  3. we won....although you wouldnt be able to tell that from this thread.

    Milner MOTM

Cant really be arsed to comment much in a thread were some reactions I just dont understand, i thought we played some good stuff at times.

As for people moaning about crossing into the box, wasn't that how the winner came about?

  4. why have you quoted me saying his movement is shit which i dont agree with.

and to be fair as much as we miss barry i dont think he really did play these killer through balls. Barry was good at starting off attacks by playing good early balls out wide to ashley.

  5. Gabby is so shit, ok he scored a header anyone could of scored but his movement is so shocking as he follows the defenders rather than the defenders going after him.

    Really?

    Yes.

And Gabby is "shit" (maybe too strong word there) in many ways. OK he is fast running a straight line without the ball, he is strong against smaller players and sometimes he works hard. But two years ago he was a real goal scoring talent, or it looked that way. Now he is as predictable as our style of play. Quality strikers aren't supposed to be like that.

but hes still improved on last seasons tally yet again so he has improved again and his all round game has improved. People can complain about the strikers all the want but if the service isnt there than what can they do? most of our service to our strikers is crossing into the box, this is good for carew but not for gabby. How many times did we put gabby through on goal last night with a killer pass through the middle? it just didnt happen and were still lacking that top class creative midfielder who can do this.

  6. gabby shit? your having a laugh mate. you obviously didnt see the workrate he put in tonight.

Milner MOTM for me, he just dont stop running.

Why ashley young was marking cahill for there 2nd goal i just dont know.

Overall though a draws a fair result i think, we played some good stuff at times.

Does anyone think that were a bit too open in midfield playing to out and out wingers in a 4-4-2-? think we need to try something different formation wise like the diamond formation we had at the end of the season a couple of seasons ago.

another thing thought the fans were good tonight but we always seem to have a scapegoat and downing seems to be the current one.

Downing crosses a ball in and it goes out all the fans start getting on his back, delfouneso does the same thing and hits a cross into the side netting and no one says a thing or gets on his back.

  7. I think it also shows how hard it is to take that final step. Spurs have barely moved in that time, Everton either, it's relatively simple to climb into a position where you're in the top eight to ten of the Premiership. Any club with about £100m to spend can manage it over the course of a few seasons.

It takes a lot of luck, a bit of nous or another couple of hundred million to make that extra step.

I think we're about where we should be on our spend and with the players in our squad. Things are changeable at the moment, City are just getting underway and things are tightening up a bit, I suspect that once we have more than four clubs regularly capable of a top four finish then things will open up a little more.

I think it'll be possible to take the extra step without spending the £300m it's taken Chelsea and will take City and I think we've got a reasonably good foundation.

It's been a bad week, but it's been a pretty good couple of years.

    well said mate.

out of everyone you speak a lot of sense on here.

  8. well ive got my tickets not really looking forward to it now though, just cant see us beating a team we have just lost 7-1 to. I know it will be a different game but were probably just put in a battling performance and lose by a goal or something.

It must be great to be chelsea fan going to wembley with confidence and not a worry about playing a team they have just beat 7-1.

  9. Big result that was. I'm delighted with 4 points from 2 tough away games, now if we can follow this up with a couple of home wins then were be in a great position.

MOTM jimmy milner of course, closely followed by Collins who thought had another solid game.

  10. big result, didnt think we'd win because of our record at craven cottage, love been proved wrong though.

watched a crap stream but from what i seen dunne was quality as per usual but MOTM has to got to go to gabby as goals win games and he got 2.

Roll on next weeks big game now.

  11. I dislike the fact people just think a goalscorer would definately score. However

    1. Someone like Defoe hasn't scored at home vs Hull, Stoke, wolves. So it's bot that clear cut.

    2. We needed our 2 strikers today! If heskey weren't playing, who would of made 3rd man in midfield and held ball up for team? If gabby wernt playing, who would of stretched their defence like he did and give us that option to break quickly. Strikers just don't stand on the edge of the box and do nothing all game abd if they don't Score 'there shit'. Like any other position, they have roles in the team. These can be under-rated.

well said mate, if only a few more people thought like this.

thought the game could of went either way last night, we were unlucky in a way not to get the win. The ref was shocking (is it me or does the standard of refereeing get worse by the season?, ive seen some shocking referee displays down villa park this season)

anyway thought ash was MOTM he seems to be getting back to his best, all the defence played well and specials mentions for petrov, heskey and the hard working gabby. the goals will start flowing in the league again trust me.

  12. short and sweet. chuffed with the result, i said i would of taken a score draw before the game. still thought we should of won by more though.

the support was fantastic from our fans you could hear the our fans clearly for the whole game on sky.

Milner absolute quality and definately my MOM.

Lets finish the job off next week, hope its a sell out.

  13. quality result... to be honest i thought we would come crashing back to earth after the man utd result.

fair to the lads though, you can see confidence is growing

Milner was quality yet again so hes got my vote, but on the defensive side dunne was class again and the more i see warnock he impresses me more and more, surely hes gotta go to the world cup as well because hes much better than bridge.

Has anyone noticed how this season how many blocks the defenders get in, we have defenders who are throwing themselves in the way of shots to get blocks in and its definately helping..

    UP THE VILLA!

  14. Oh my days!!!!

I think we all, or some of us, had a feeling we might do something in this one but never really believed it would happen because of the Man Utd rule.

I drove up on there on my own as I couldn't convince anybody to fork out the cash for what was another expected defeat. I am so so glad I went anyway.

The last 10 minutes brought back all the same feelings as last season where I kept telling my mate "we're not going to win it", "we're not going to win it". Sure enough we didn't. We were all saying last night, "you know what's coming"....but it didn't. I don't think I've ever gone so mental as I did at that final whistle. I'm 25, that's the first time we've won there in my lifetime!!

I raced back to Brum to see a gig at The Flapper where my mates, brothers, cousins who are all Villa were at. What a **** night.

I've had a grin on my face since 7.15pm last night. The whole way back on the M6, the rest of the night, when I went to sleep, when I woke up and still now. I LOVE ASTON VILLA FOOTBALL CLUB!!!!

top post mate, im also 25, knew we'd do it one day :D

  15. still buzzing with the result, knew we'd beat them at old trafford in my lifetime one day :D

all the players get a 8 for me, with gabby getting motm for his goal and his general workrate and hold up play.

still cant believe with that we got the win with that atkinson as ref, i never seen such a biased referee's performance in my life... yeh he booked rooney for diving and he got that right but he was giving united everything think he gave us about 3 free kicks all game.

as for fergie moaning about the time added on... well we took a minute off for last years extra minute  :winkold:

  16. disappointed reo-coker is not playing, but come on some of the comments people are making are stupid, petrov shit? i dont think so, he is a best midfielder at keeping poccession and at passing the ball. as for sidwell as well if you watch the games you will see the amount of work he puts in. Guess we'll see if its the right decision at the end of the game.

other comments like i hope he comes back to haunt MON are stupid as well, i dont want any player to come back to haunt is if there playing against us.

anyway chuffed to see downing on the bench, had a feeling he might be back a lot sooner after reading earlier in the week in the mail. about him. Hope he gets a run out and makes a impact if hes ready.

  17. I'd stick my Les Paul on O'Neill playing the following team

    Friedel

    Cuellar

    Warncok

    Dunne

    Collins

    Petrov

    Sidwell

    Young

Milner (or Coker if Milner is still injured)

    Carew

    Gabby

He won't go 4-5-1 at home to Bolton.

Last season Bolton played some defensively naive football against us. At the time i think we were struggling to find the net and beat the lower level teams but we beat them 4-2 and i think Gabby got a brace. We could really do with another poor defensive performance from Bolton and another 4 goals. A win is imperative.

    3-1 Villa

think we played 4-5-1 that day as well.

  18. just read in the mail that petrov is suspended on saturday because he got booked last night, heskey is also struggling and milner is still doubtful.

will be a interesting team selection on saturday.

id be tempted to go 4-5-1 even though its at home

    ..........................friedal...........................

    Young L......Collins.......Dunne.......Warnock

    ...........Reo-coker..Sidwell...Delph.......

    Milner/Albrighton.....................Young A

    ......................... Gabby...........................
