  1. Had a shocking few days. Lumped a big sum on Croatia -1 Asian handicap at 2.25

I think with Mandzukic back, Croatia should win you that bet.

I hope you're right but this World Cup is full of suprises. Cameroon did look poor against Mexico though and Eto out to.

I don't think I'll be able to stay awake much longer.

  2. Considering what a dogs breakfast the ownership has done running the club in recent years, I would not be at all suprised if we have the same owner and manager come Stoke. I said I would not be worried if nothing happened until mid June. It is mid June and nothing has happened. I would be worried if just didn't care anymore.

I stopped worrying a few weeks back when I actually thought about the situation and realised a takeover was unlikely to happen this summer. At least we got something to play for again this season.

  3. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Benteke and Lukaku are often compared to one another because of their race and stature. They're both big, strong, quick Belgian players of Congolese descent. For me though they're very far apart in terms of playing style and Benteke clinches it as the better all-round striker.

Their best attributes are that they are big, strong and quick. So I find it naturally to compare them when they fight for the same spot for the same national team.

    Who is

    Harder

    Better

    Faster

    Stronger?

Benteke is a better footballer. I always find it odd that Mourinho said he didn't like how Benteke plays, because for me Benteke plays very similar to Drogba.

Did he say that after we beat them by any chance?

  4. I don't think the signings have anything to do with a takeover. Even if there was one imminent we still need experience so no harm in signing a few free players. Even potential new owners could sanction it.

I just don't think there will be a takeover for other reasons which I've mentioned many times.

  5. Vermaelen is off to United, I think that could rule out any potential move of Vlaar to them. Reckon they will sign another CB but my guess would be somebody 'world class', a big name.

I think that United will be looking for more than just two defenders to replace Ferdinand and Vidic. The other defenders they have are poor and they would probably look to replace one or two of them too.

Put yourself in Vlaar's shoes, regardless of how the rest of the World Cup goes for him and Holland. You can go to a club that's one of the top teams in the world, play alongside fella countrymen and for your national manager and maybe get a nice contract that pay good bonuses and a salary of around £50,000+ per week. Or, he can stay at a club that fights relegation season after season with an owner who clearly wants out and, surrounded by very average players. He may be on £30,000 per week salary with an improved offer of £45,000 in the pipeline, who knows?

He's at the age where he probably has just one more move remaining in him and I can't see him staying faithful to Villa if he was given the chance to join United or, any other top club for that matter. I certainly wouldn't blame him for moving on either, as the future of Villa is completely in the lap of the Gods.

I've been saying this for weeks. I just threw in a few words like 'inevitable' and 'get used to it' for effect ;)

  6. Well not too many agreeing with you so perhaps individual and not common sense

The guy features in a great win for his country in which he didn't have to do a lot and we should all suddenly fear him going to a top club

    Perspective. Get some.

Correct.....he had a good game against a good team who had a collective shocker. Let's see how the rest of the tournament goes before we start deciding where he's going. To be honest, if it's the right money, I'd take it.....

I've been saying I think he will leave for weeks now and i don't think how he performs in the World Cup will make a difference. I hope I'm wrong. We'll just have to wait and see.

  7. It's common sense really. If we're talking about a club like Southampton and Newcastle (and not someone like Man United). Even then, he's still going to want to be playing every week. That's the case with most footballers.

At the same time though Vlaar isn't going to want anything less than playing week in week out.

Considering you are always pulling me up for stating things as fact I'm surprised you can say that.
I've not claimed anything is "inevitable" or "very likely" though.
You are still claiming to know what Vlaar will want. That's just as bad.

I think it's common sense that he will leave in the summer.

Not really - it's pretty much common sense that most footballers want to play every week. Vlaar clearly isn't one of those that would be happy to sit on the bench every week (although that doesn't necessarily mean he'd turn down a move to United obviously). It's nothing like claiming that him leaving is "inevitable".

How is it common sense he'll leave this summer?

Ok maybe not common sense he will leave but let's look at the facts.

He is a very good International defender that has one year left on his contract. The chances of teams being in for him will be high. I'm sure the club will try hard to keep him but given the situation our club is in at the moment do you think he will want to stay?

  9. I've not read this thread and have no idea if a Keane appointment would be welcomed.

Speaking for myself, I would welcome anything that might shake the current system up.

That said, why would Roy Keane wish to associate himself with such a doomed outfit as AVFC?

Sorry, I just don't see it.

    Maybe he needs the money...

  11. 5 to 7m and he can go

Contract situation aside he's worth way more than that. Don't know how you could be happy to see him go for just £5m.

I said if a while ago and the way he plays in this World Cup won't change my mind. Vlaar will very likely be a Man United player next season and it's something we need to start getting used too.

Yeah let's all get used to something that is barely being discussed other than on here
Nothing wrong with being prepared for the inevitable.
Just because in your opinion something is likely to happen doesn't mean it's "inevitable".
With all due respect can you stop taking everything I write so literally please.

In 'my opinion' he will be sold to Man United this summer.

Kinda hard not to take it literally when you're telling us all 'to get used to it'.

    Not everyone is as pessimistic

Well IF it does happen at least I won't be suprised or disappointed. I wouldn't even blame the club for selling him if the bid is right. You'd have thought there would have been attempts to offer him a new contract sooner. Maybe he wants to leave?
How do you know we haven't offered him a new contract?

That's my point. They most likely did or have and the fact he still hasn't signed may indicate he knows there is potential for him to leave and move on to bigger things.

You can't really blame the guy if he does leave.

  13. Fair enough. But if we had to give the chances of leaving a rating out of 10 then surely it would be 10.

On a serious note though obviously we won't know for sure until after World Cup but I would be suprised if there is no clubs in for him. Or maybe I just rate him more highly than he really is.

  14. I think DMFs are something that OEMs fit but don't really need to. Some drivers replace theirs with single mass and just report a less smooth change from 1st to 2nd. I think they act as a sort of shock absorber for the drive train. I've even read of people having theirs welded up.

I managed to get a quote for a new DMF, clutch and bearing for £565. That includes labour. I spoke to Halfords who told me the parts alone cost £500.

    I'm so confused.

  16. I bet Spain screwed a lot of people over.

Gone for the safe Columbia and Uruguay double today and also a small punt on 0-0 for England game. Hope Greece don't park the bus.
