  1. Bet365 are streaming the match live apparently

#Astonvilla fans. Good news, bet365 are streaming the braga match. They have exclusive rights in UK. Ko 6pm Sat. http://ow.ly/1vn9WU #avfc

Just watching the live game on at the mo for a 'trial' run... I am probably just being stupid, but any idea how to make it full screen?

Do you have to join Bet365 to watch it?

Yeah, and I think you need to have money in your account (I *think* minimum deposit is £5)

  3. I think part of the reason Bannan has not looked so effective is the type of balls he plays require good movement, ie a midfielder running beyond. Who has he played with? Petrov. Reo-Coker. Hogg. How many times do they get beyond the striker? Gordon Cowans was a wonderful player but he always had a Mortimer, a Platt to knock the ball through to. Paul Merson had Ian Taylor to pick out; and so on. So hopefully Bradley - who IMO if he does well will be the closest thing we've had to Ian Taylor since, ERM, Ian Taylor - will help someone like Bannan. Whether that is for Saturday or not I don't know, but I felt it was an appropriate point to make with Bannan and Bradley both being mentioned for this game!

  4. Not quite true, dont forget he played in Moscow!

Very true. People say we lost because of the team we put out & while there is a huge element of truth in that, the fact is Albrighton/Bannan did us proud, but Sidwell & Shorey messed up for the first goal, then Shorey/Osborne for the second!

  5. I enjoyed that fella, cheers.

I've been singing his praises for ages, while there has been all the fuss about Delfouneso and Bannan, I've been telling anyone that will listen that, "Yeah, but wait to you see this lad Albrighton..."

I think the Middlesborough game was a moment where I worried. The fact that Heskey was out there concerned me, although there is a counter-arguement there that Milner was at RB (which is a WHOLE other discussion!) but it would appear that my fears were hopefully put to rest by him doing the biz this summer.

Put it this way, if Jimmy is out & Albrighton is fit, I will be one angry man if NRC is out there!

  6. As I've now given up drink, I have given up the drugs too. But I must say I love cocaine. Like, badly. However, it will be easy not to do it now I'm off the booze though cause for me they always went hand in hand.

I always liked pills and am glad to say I never had a bad experience. Acid, fine, bit dull after a while. Never had an issue with speed so am a little surprised at the bad rap it got on here. I actually hate the ol' 'mari-jarna', I am a non-smoker anyway and it gives me minging headaches for some reason.

Why aren't poppers on the list?

  7. I don't think right-mid is that big a priority if we get a decent attacking right-back.

Petrov does just fine out there. The problem with the right hand side is that Mellberg is a centre-back playing out there. I think he has done a good job & we couldn't ask for more from him. But it does mean that the attacking is done predominately down our left.

In terms of Petrov, people say he is playing out of position, but that's not really the case. In the majority of his Celtic days he was playing behind the front two when MON played with three centre-backs, but then when he switched to 4-4-2, Petrov was on the right.

The best balance for a lot of teams is a MIDFIELDER on one side & a WINGER on the other. I'd argue that David Beckham is more of a midfielder than a winger, & that Ryan Giggs is a winger. When they played with Roy Keane & Paul Scholes it was a perfect balance. Of course, the quality of the players & Beckham's crossing ability made it an exceptional midfield, but you get the point (hopefully)

If you look at the top teams, their full-backs are all very good on the ball. This is because the way the English game is, the full-backs see an awful amount of the ball. If you have good attacking full-backs, then you can have a perfectly good balance without having a 'conventional' wide player, at least on one side anyway.

The Arsenal team that went a season unbeaten, for example, had Robert Pires on the left. But he generally played 20 yards inside, much like Petrov does. Pires had Ashley Cole bombing on past him, Petrov has Mellberg... if we signed Chimbonda, say, then this would be much more effective. With NRC holding, there is pretty much cover if an attack breaks down & the right-back is out of position, and if Petrov is playing slightly inside, it gives the opposition defence more to think about.

But what do I know, it's just my opinion!
