Jermaine Jones is looking for a new club. He is 33 but we can probably offer him 2 years and he would fix our defensive midfield issues. Plus he brings some experience and he is also free.

He is not very good though is he?

    Infact, he is quite poor.

He's good when he does his job, but he has a tendency to freelance a bit. I will say he's improved since Jurgen Klinsmann took over, though. Not quite as reckless as he used to be.

  2. If he's happy to knock £50m off, why should a potential buyer not wait until he ups it to £75m?

    Hopeless situation.  :(

Because then somebody else comes along and pays the £150m while you're sitting there waiting.

Wouldn't read too much into Arison. He said back in February that he was planning on selling 10 million of his shares for "tax, estate and diversification purposes." So this is likely just him getting money to invest elsewhere, as it still leaves him as majority shareholder in Carnival.

I think that's the point of the link and we are where he will "invest elsewhere". It's a long shot put who knows.

A soccer club doesn't strike me as an investment as much as it does a money pit.

Heat going to win another Championship by beating the Spurs. He knows how to run a sports team. Would love this to be true.

I mean, I guess he does.

If he could hire one of the greatest coaches of all time to be the CEO, then collude into getting what would amount to the 6 best players in the world onto the team, yeah I'd call him a great owner. Otherwise....meh.

Can't imagine why somebody from Ohio would want to diminish what the Heat accomplished.  ;)

  6. Personally I think any new owners will keep Lambert, at least for the time being.

I agree unless the new owner already has somebody lined up. My guess is it'll still be at least a few more weeks before anything happens, and by that point you aren't going to want to find a new manager and then hit the transfer market. Lambo is going to get some cash and a chance to prove himself in one more season.

Then, depending on how that goes, we're either searching for a new manager come January or not.

Would people be ok if we changed the identity of the club? hypothetically, say Red Bull bought us and were allowed to change the name, stadium and kit colours. Or would this be a step too far?

I'd rather not but it wouldn't greatly bother me if it came with success. We'd still be the same club and with the same history but just with a new image.

I don't see how we'd be the same club. Are the Indianapolis Colts really the Baltimore Colts? Once you change the name, the colours and potentially where the stadium is located, you become a new team.

I would feel free not to support this new team - indeed, I would passionately despise it, as the team that ended the existence of Aston Villa.

There's a huge difference between changing your name and what the Colts did. The Colts moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis, a city that is 600 miles away and in an entirely different state.

This would be like Villa moving to Carlisle or Bournemouth.

  8. I don't know who would be good for Villa, or who wouldn't, I just enjoy the idea that Randy Lerner's primary motivation is to sell to somebody that's "good for the club" or whatever. Because that's how businessmen operate. Randy Lerner is selling Aston Villa because he feels he isn't the answer, and he wants the club to succeed. It's certainly not because he's trying to salvage his money!

    Come on.

  9. So, based on what I'm reading here, we are going to be sold to a conglomerate of shirts who make their money from sales?

If the shirts are selling themselves would that make them prostitutes?

  10. Found this intresting...on Twitter I know.

Never been an #itk - BUT!

Good friend of mine gave me a glimpse of the 1st Nike kit a few years ago, which I released on Villa Talk. Got in to a lot of trouble #avfc

Same source gave me info about the Macron deal six months before it happened. Now maybe he only gets info about kits, but all the same #avfc

He's absolutely adamant that Texas is where our new owners will come from. Won't commit on which names from Texas, but #avfc

tells me that the efforts going on within the club are centread around, and deadlined to the date of, our tour of Texas #avfc

Has seen the club prepare for many tours over many years, and at no time has he seen preparations of this magnitude #avfc

Whatever happens, I think we all agree that going into next season without this uncertainty is an absolute must #avfc

    Seems very plausible to me

Jim Crane? Owns the Houston Astros, a baseball team.

Tevfik Arif is being "indirectly" linked in the Daily Mail.

    First google search result

New York real estate mogul arrested in Turkey on suspicion of running prostitute ring on $60m luxury yacht

    He was acquitted though.

There's one way to increase morale.

One thing to consider when figuring out how much you can get for Aston Villa: When Lerner bought the club there wasn't all the American money coming in from the television deal with NBC here. If there's anything American sports can teach you, it's that your team can be terrible forever but you'll still make money thanks to television.

Yes but there is no relegation in US sport.

Very fair point, but the ego of a person spending £200 on a football club doesn't believe it has to worry about relegation. When Randy Lerner bought the team, even though he knew relegation existed, he never thought it'd be his problem.

Tell that to the chap who bought Fulham or those guys at Blackburn. Anyone who buys a PL club without understanding the threat of relegation is an idiot, pure and simple and I wouldn't want them anywhere near our club.

As for Lerner, I'm sure he did know about it and I'm sure he never thought it was going to be an issue but then I'm sure he never planned on doing such a terrible job of running the business either.

That's my point. Anybody buying a club knows it's there, but it's the whole "that will never happen to me, I'm too good/smart/handsome" etc
