  1. I actually thought Makoun was good, just unlucky with the timing of his arrival.

He was about the size of something Sanchez would get stuck in his teeth though so I don't think they're really comparable.

  2. Do we really need anymore midfielders though ? as have Grealish, Cole, Sanchez and now Cleverley coming into the fold as well as N'Zogbia..

Both our main strikers are injured and could take them a while to get back to full fitness, the guys i mentioned would be interesting options to bring off the bench seeing as we are only using Bent, Gabby and Weimann as strikers at the moment and obviously Robinson as a reserve. Would offer us a lot more options.

Benteke will be back within a month and when he is Jonas, Nilmar and Almeida wouldn't get a look in, especially when Kozak comes back too.

If it is even possible to have too many creative midfielders, we're nowhere near that situation yet IMO.

  3. Did he get a new contract under McLeish? He has done very well to be paid by a Premier League club for this long

    Yes.

    4 Year Deal!

Aston Villa utility player Chris Herd vowed to keep on improving after signing a new four-year contract with the club.

Herd had 18 months remaining of his current deal but earned his new contract after impressing manager Alex McLeish, particularly since switching from right-back to central midfield.

  4. lots of Free Transfers at moment:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2741814/Victor-Valdes-Ronaldinho-Mario-Yepes-best-free-agents-Premier-League-sides.html

Jonas (Striker) Nilmar, Hugo Almieda or Ronaldinho would all be Ascute on a free and a lot better than this guy!

All of the players you listed  are strikers (apart from Ronaldinho). We don't need a striker.

I'm not so sure they're a lot better than D'Agostino either (apart from Ronaldinho).

  5. He played 90 minutes yesterday for Danish U-21 and did well. 4-2 vs Russia.

He said that he felt no problems with his knee.

I was hoping for a highlight video.

    This was all I found.

  6. That's a good point. Deadlift is probably the only lift that you need to be wary of. I think plywood (I've got 2 layers of exterior plywood with the grain perpendicular to each other) underneath everything would spread the load but I'm not too sure if that would be enough to completely protect from repeated heavy DLs in the long term upstairs.

Depends on the house I suppose.

  7. No worries, I'd lifted for about 4 years on and off when I bought the stuff but I'd wasted a lot of that time **** around with my mates in the gym in that time instead of getting stronger.

If you've got the space and money up front then buying your own equipment is definitely the best option IMO.

If I could start my lifting career all over again I'd buy the same stuff and start with a basic routine, something like Starting Strength (linked in the second ever post of this thread).

The most important bits of equipment are a power cage, a bench, a barbell and some weight plates. You can try and find used stuff if you want a bargain but there's enough cheap new stuff on ebay to get a decent set up going. I got THIS cage for example.

Depending on the floor in your spare room I'd recommend putting some floor covering down as well, I think this is actually all covered in the Starting Strength book.

  8. How much did all that cost you if you don't mind me asking?

Initial outlay was about £600 for the equipment but I've added stuff sporadically. It just started as cage, bench, weights, weight tree and barbell.

I also spent about £100 on heavy duty plywood and rubber horse stable mats for it all to sit on.

I've got my beady eye on a hex bar next.

  9. Because I'm not only talking about "this point".

If we get taken over by a mega-rich new owner who could afford the very best managers in the world ...

    ...would you still keep Lambert?

Well you were responding to a guy asking about Lambert getting an extension so I assumed you were against that idea at "this point".

If we get taken over by a mega-rich new owner who could afford the very best managers in the world then paying off Lambert's contract would be no problem, surely.

I don't think it would be prudent to let our manager's contract expire because we wouldn't want him here with near unlimited resources.

Most of our squad would be surplus to requirements as well if a mega-rich new owner who could afford the very best players bought Villa.

  10. And as for replacing Lambert - I don't see why not as long as it was a better manager. It would be like refusing Messi because we wanted stability with Bannan.

Only the managerial equivalent of Messi wouldn't touch us with a barge pole and the managerial equivalent of Bannan would have had us relegated.

We've been outspent by Burnley in this last window and could be sold to an owner with his own preferences for staff at any point without warning.

I really have no idea why anyone would think we'd have a chance of attracting a non-desperate new manager at this point.
