Interesting name @villaslash , any relation to @Pissflaps ?
Being a big fan of wordplay I can see where you are going but no…I would tell you the origin but it would remove much of the fun of interpretation

I was actually quite optimistic about the signing at the time as well
I saw him play in a friendly for us where he threaded a beautiful pass through the defense for Gabby. All downhill from there…

Hmm... I'm trying to think of some of our more creative midfielders during the premier league era (that is, a 10 instead of a winger or striker).
Clearly there are gaps in my memory, but of the ones that come to mind:
- Merson
- Hendrie
- Ashley Young (under Houllier)
- Ireland
- Grealish
- Buendia
With perhaps the exception of Grealish - a generational talent - they all have something in common: They were slated here for not doing enough/not being consistent.
I wonder if we just don't appreciate our number 10's?
yes, it was definitely the classic it’s not you it’s me. What’s not to appreciate? They got Milner and we got a pack of crisps and the finest modeler of snakeskin pants the game has ever seen

Hopefully he booted the back of Southgate's chair all game.

Heart broken. I was so excited to see him kick into gear over the last couple of games. Hopefully we see him after the New Year.

With Bailey and Traore out when would we send AEG in for a little speed. I know he doesn’t push/ track but have someone on the wing?
We will probably stay narrow.
Martinez
Cash Konsa Mings Targett
McGinn Sanson Luiz
Ramsey Young/AEG
Ings (rest Watkins after Liverpool)
I could also see the same back line with
Sanson Luiz
Buendia MCGinn Young
Ings

He'll off to the AFCON in a month along with Nakamba and Traore I guess.
Interesting to see if Traore and Trez go seeing how they haven’t played for us in so long.

Coutinho?
Well, we know a guy that knows that guy anyway
after the Barcelona result tonight anyone you would make a cheeky bid on as the sales start?

Excited to have him back. Great attitude and though if everyone was fit we have a lot of players on the wing we seem to be a tad short right now.

The rules do not specify a duration of time he needs to be in contact with the ball. As per the rules the goal was correctly disallowed
Except for the exception.

I'm glad he played on (poor thing was being bullied by the C&B all game). His performance today was Nyland esque, soft keeper he has done **** all all match and being dominated all game at set piece.
Easily the worst keeper to have won the PL
Desperately wanted us to score long distance when he came up both times. Good game management by Martinez but I just wanted him to send it quick on that goal kick.
feel bad for Mings- his hand must still smell like Scheimechel’s face. He’s going to have his hand tested and scrubbed later.

Aaron ransdale makes that save and Talksport and Sky Sports simultaneously combust into an enormous ocean of jizz
Tim Howard said it was the save of the season so far.

No way that was a yellow today. I’m amazed as full blooded he is on tackles that was only his 3rd. I think it tells you a bit about his tackling skill.

Terrible take, from both posts to be fair, he is somewhere in between and careers shouldn’t be decided after 15 games. He tries stuff other players don’t think about unfortunately if these don’t come off it give the opposition possession.
Rough first half for him. You have to say that first goal might have been his though Konsa’s cleat tickle kept it inside the post. He got better as the game went on and had some nice touches and that hooked back heel when we were pinned in was lovely. The turnover in the first half was a couple players and not just him.

Sorry if someone else mentioned this but Vardy nonexistent when he came on. I don’t remember him even getting a sniff.

So happy. Nerves are wrecked but happy. Would have been gutted if we had drawn after that horrendous disallowed goal. Gerrard must give a good half time talk. Would love it even more if they kept the momentum we had first bit of the 2nd half.

Keep going Villa! With this ref we need 4-1

You are Keinan Davis and I claim my five pounds.
Yes I am. And my prolific goal scoring will keep them up. The new owners targeted me as the first big buy. It was a toss up between me and MBappe.

Happy he’s back and proving a great addition for a second time.
Still one of my favorite Villa moments was his winning goal against Everton in I think 2008 at the end of injury time. I remember Lescott equalizing and just deflating everyone and then Young with just a moment of brilliance passing the ball to himself through the defense and curling it in. I literally leapt up and down going nuts. A lot of fond memories of the players on that roster.

Ings as one of the 10s in that case though right?
It’s a tough call for sure. With Watkins regaining form I’d play him in the “11”but I think letting the two rotate fluidly during the game could cause some havoc.

They both played in his first game.
Sorry forgot the first bit of that game and that Ings was out then back then out. Thanks. Perhaps better said is too early to know how Gerrard could use the two.
The signing of Ings surprised me but I’m thinking back to when we bought Heskey in the chase for top 4. Top half teams really need more than one striker who can do the business.
Certainly more depth at the top of the pitch then we have had for quite a while.

Since Gerrard hasn’t had Watkins and Ings fit at the same time it will be interesting to see what happens. With the top of the attack playing a little more compact at times I could see a top three of Ings Watkins and Buendia working a bit better. They all have that bit of skill and trickery for an unexpected pass to slice the defense open.
Hope we don’t sell anyone to Newcastle.

We haven’t seen the Ings Watkins partnership really work but having two quality strikers is so vital. What if Watkins is injured? What if we actually subbed Watkins off after 75 when he has run the defense ragged? Then Ings’s deadly more technical finishing would make an impact.
I’m not sure we would want to sell to Newcastle if they came in for him. Let them try to splash some cash around in the championship for a bit.
When you think of all the strikers we’ve bought over the years as simple emergency cover instead of an equally good option it’s never worked out. Great to have a choice.

Could be. It always makes me sad when everyone talks only about Ozzy being a Villa fan. I am also currently lobbying for Welcome to the Jungle to play pre-game.I was a big fan of Axel when we were in the championship. hmm…
