So, what do we think the unfair decision will be this time?
1) Incorrect penalty decision in favour of Manure
2) Villa denied a clear-cut penalty
3) Manure player should be sent off but isn't
4) Villa player sent off unjustly
5) Manure score a goal that should be disallowed by VAR
6) Villa have a goal unfairly disallowed by VAR
7) An other..
I am sure it will be something controversial!

Anyone know if there is a purchase clause? Good the wages are gone but seems we often keep loaning people out till the contract is done.
end of season he will have one year left right? Hopefully gets some game time, ups the price and we can sell.
thanks AEG! Some great memories.

I love VT and the way people make random suggestions of players that I've never heard of as though Gerrard and Lange login once a day on a scouting mission.
I usually check first thing in the morning and end of day so twice actually. After 5pm and you’ll have to wait for the next day.

I am in total agreement.....I would like to see a quality CDM come in before messing with the 2 centre backs......they need some protection from midfield and I would be interested to see that, first, before considering changing them.
I also agree. With Axel leaving I think we might need another backup CB but CDM is the most vital. It would change us drastically for the better.

The fact he isn’t in a state of REM sleep during the game instantly makes him better then N’Zogbia.

Love this and think his big heart is another reason he’s so great to have at Villa.
Its reminding me when we used to have Acorns on the front of the Jersey and there was a great photo and interview with Laursen and Barry about the Villa Acorns partnership.
it’s stuff like this that makes Villa extra special. Thanks Mings.

Schedule update
it will now be after Boxing Day but before a Christmas. Hope that helps.

There was this fairly unspecific update from SG in the presser this week
https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/january/06/the-presser--gerrard-speaks-ahead-of-fa-cup-clash/
Steven Gerrard:When asked about Leon Bailey, he said: “He’s good, he’s working hard. We’re four and a bit weeks post-injury and he’s progressing well, stepping up his rehab as the days go by. He’s focused on getting back in the best possible way.
“It was an injury in a similar area to the first one, so we have to be careful and respect that, and make sure that when he is fit and available that he’s ready to play.”

I'm actually suprised more players don't do this in all honesty.
….
Surely at some stage money takes a back seat. It's not as if they go from gigantic sums of money to nothing is it?
Agree. I also think the World Cup is going to motivate a lot of players to move somewhere this window to get game time and make the team. There’s just enough time to change a WC coaches mind and make it. I think it’s a great time to bring him in.

Could be our Robinho…show future targets that this calibre of player is willing to come and play here. Puts us on the map a little a bit more amongst the elite. It would be helped massively by the fact Gerrard and Coutinho are known to each other as well.
We’ve got to start somewhere. City did and look where they are now. Admittedly, it’s a pretty big starting point, but, why not?
Hopefully he gets our name right in the presser though…Robinho best blooper ever

You have to love this site. I was hoping to find out who we are being linked with as defensive midfielder but instead have been sifting through who is our leading Cardiac expert. You would never get this on a Blues site.
please Villa sign someone soon so we can get back to what we do best-debating if we should give the new signing more time…

The teams news doesn't say.
Steven Gerrard On the absence of striker Ollie Watkins, he added: "I'm not sure I'm in the position to give you the details on it but we have got a mixture of Covid and injury problems at the moment. Ollie should be back for the next game."

Nice interview with SG on Sky. I think he is very respectful of Smith. He also talks about the Watkins and Ings conundrum.
Steven Gerrard on Sky
"Aston Villa are stronger for having both options available; does that mean I'm going to force them to play together? No. Are there games where they can play together? Yes. The conundrum for me is an exciting challenge, and I've got to try to find the right answers and solutions. If one of them is injured or was to go, that doesn't make Aston Villa stronger or better at all - so we should appreciate both of them.- 1

I think he would be a great impact sub tomorrow 65 or 70 minutes in when the defense is getting ragged and not ready for a bit of trickery and speed. If we start with Buendia on the right he seems to not make a full 90.

It's almost inevitable that Newcastle will get to the top eventually with the resources they have. Might as well take advantage of that while we can and bleed them for as much money as possible. If we don't some other club is going to get all that money anyway so it's not really going to affect them much.
I understand this perspective. My view is not about hate but what’s good for Villa in the long term.
I don’t want to see us repeat the rise of Man City where we sold Barry, Milner and Delph while saying we will take the money and it’s inevitable…
We have well funded and run ownership which I hope see long term feeding Newcastle will only make our battle to get into the Europe spots tougher.
If they want fringe players which they over pay for after the drop fine.

Interesting comments from SG about Axel. I figured we would want him to stay till end of season but sounds like there is interest even beyond that. May be PR/ pressure to keep the loan.

Gerrard said: "It's very much in Ax's hands and Manchester United's hands. We want him here, we would be delighted to keep him. We don't just see it as a loan until the end of the season. -

Can't see us selling Mings to Newcastle and I think they will look at other targets than him.
We'll already be 2 CB's down in the summer (or even earlier) with Tuanzebe leaving and Hause depending on his contract extended or not. Would mean we'd have to buy 3 new CB's, seems like a silly strategy as we have other needs too.
Agree. Why would we let Newcastle strengthen? I hope they go down this season just to slow the imminent dumping of money on players. Man City were very strategic when they were rebuilding about not only buying good players but taking them from immediate rivals for higher positions in the league.

Give Gerard time, Mings will be one of the first he will replace given the chance.
From the Steven Gerrard presser today
“He’s (Mings) a fantastic player, he’s led by example so far. I’ve been really impressed with him not just on the pitch but off it as well. I’m sure he’ll be missed in certain ways“
or perhaps SG might work with Mings to make him even better and not try to replace. So many other parts of the team need upgrades via transfers first.

From the Steven Gerrard presser today
“Whoever’s picked to replace Tyrone, whether it be Kortney Hause or Axel Tuanzebe, they have to make sure that we don’t miss Tyrone.
