What’s this? I’m watching pregame coverage and the pundits keep talking about how dangerous Villa are, what a fun team to watch and how good Emery is?
What strange planet is this? Alternate reality?

The match is now listed on Paramount+ in the US
Paramount+ ! They are killing me, we have almost every stream service in the US (many of them to watch Villa) but not Paramount+. It even looks like you can get the Europa League on other platforms just not the Conference…

They did Beundia shirts last week. This week was for Mings
The sad thing is the team in the tshirt photos is getting smaller and smaller…

We need to go strong in these games. One of my biggest issues with MON was when he sent the team with no senior strikers to play even on the bench. In the hunt for champions league we blew a whole season of Europa after having fought so hard.
in European competitions for the first time in so long- make it count.

Good confident performance. Exactly what we needed.
I was going to give McGinn POTM but Digne gets so much stick on here and I have to say he sent in some really lovely crosses today.
please no more serious injuries. I was hoping Bailey’s goal would help give him some confidence and kick on.

Awesome! Also, the trophy makes a wicked Pina Colada.

sounds like an exotic sex position.
possibly involving a gobble
Thank goodness- back on topic. More talk of Zaniola, Reverse Turkey positions and triangles involving zaniola, Luiz and Coutinho. I’m staying for now…

Dali scores one for France. Great to see the Villa so represented in the Women’s World Cup.

We might see a lot more 60mins Vs 30mins rotation rather than players having the full 90, maintaining the energy levels in midfield for a high press all game.
I would love to see more subs in the 60-70 minute range. Emery has been good about this and we now have a team that can strategically justify bringing someone from the bench. Especially with 5 subs you can keep the team at a pretty high tempo.

Wow, a whole new reason to hate SHA.

There is a lot to like about the 3 CB formation with who we have. My only concern with 3 CB’s is when Brentford figured it out and managed to isolate the Left and Right and rip us open with someone making the overlapping run on the wing into the large amount of open space. Something the LCB and RCB will get used to hopefully.

It was interesting seeing him getting pretty mad at Douglas Luiz when he didn’t release him down the wing yesterday. Everyone else was pretty calm but Bailey got really wound up.

After the game today I watched him methodically work his way along the stands signing every autograph after playing the full 90 in some serious heat. Nothing but big smiles for the fans. Such a class act!

Really good game today. Took his goal well. It was interesting how fluid the team was in swapping positions on the field.

On the metro back from the match. Was originally planning on staying for the Chelsea/Fulham match but it’s too damn hot and I’m already getting sunburnt. Had a big problem with people standing in my section of the stadium and the ushers eventually gave up trying to get people to sit, so it turned hostile in the 2nd half with fans yelling at each other. An Englishman behind me was about to throw this drunk idiot in front of us down the stairs because kept waving around his full sized flag and blocking our view.
Half the stadium was empty for the Villa match, I’m assuming because all the Chelsea plastics couldn’t be bothered to watch “small clubs” like Villa (but I couldn’t be bothered to watch them, so go figure). Lots of Chelsea merchandise being sold in the stadium and I only saw 1 vendor carrying a Villa kit. Chelsea also had a large presence at the prematch “Fan Zone” booths before the match and were giving out flags and banners to everyone. Huge opportunity for the Villa marketing team for next time.
I didn’t get a good look at the Konsa challenge for their penalty, was that a stonewall? What a solo goal from Konsa as well. Couldn’t believe what I was watching. It was shades of Hutton against the Blues. Diaby is a special player. You could feel the energy in the stadium every time he got on the ball.
Overall, it was a good run out and another good preseason performance for the boys.
Where did you sit KMitch? Behind the Villa goal?

Thought the last part of the first half we looked fantastic and shows you what a quick talk from Emery will do. With that team we will be sizzling. Diaby looked so sharp for only his second game and newly on the team. Who thought you would ever say great surging run from Konsa for goal.
it was hot. Luckily we are now in the shade and quite pleasant.
my only wish is though we were in a Villa area the fans were so spread with there being 4 teams and mostly Chelski filling the void it never got rocking but hats off to the fans behind the Villa goal.

Not Villa related but what were your favourite monument/museums?
There are tons of the ones you always think about. The Korean War memorial at night was unbelievably moving and beautiful. The new Entertainment Nation at American History was of special note.

The past 3 days have been extremely hot and muggy here in Washington DC with sporadic thunderstorms thrown in the mix, but luckily it's supposed to cool off and clear up a little bit tomorrow. After logging a billion steps around DC's monuments and several museums, I'm looking forward to the real reason why I went to DC tomorrow. UTV!!!
We must have passed each other. I waved to two blokes with Villa shirts on in the NMAH yesterday .it’s the first time in a while my phone has said I’ve exercised enough and to take a rest. hoping for a little cooler and calmer weather today. The storm yesterday afternoon was crazy and glad we weren’t at the match.

Alright after teaching chants to the kids yesterday on the drive to DC we all woke up and hummed Super John McGinn through breakfast. Hoping we get the stadium rocking tomorrow. The wife said the kids could sing all the words to Tyrone Mings but I’m advocating for select omissions on their part.

How do you sign a black shirt?
Don't say 'Oswald Mosley'.
We are going for sharpie on the white number one but will take anything

Anyone see Martinez signing stuff after the game last night? The fans all had shirts hung over the rails to sign. Emi signed a couple Villa shirts skipped the Arsenal Fly Emirates shirt in the middle and picked up again with some Argentina jerseys… classic
my son has the new black GK kit with Martinez on the back. for signature next week.

Just went to an MLS game in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte FC with Ashley Westwood vs DC United with Benteke. Years later Westwood is still tidy in possession with no excitement. Makes me love our current team even more.
