Not really a fan of the "hasn't scored in x games" framing of things when it spans two separate seasons. Just comes across as arbitrarily cherry-picking the numbers in order to be as critical as possible.

Especially when it is repeatedly stated incorrectly as 11 games by the same poster, he scored the goal that clinched Europe for us on the last day of last season.

But starting and captaining a team gunning for Europe? I’m not so sure.

He literally did this last season! Not been in great form so far but he was absolutely immense at times in the run in, he’ll get back to levels soon

  3. I don't think it's a coincidence that he looked very solid against Salah in May with Ramsey in front of him and Mings next to him. With no press and a high line he was a sitting duck yesterday, still created two really good chances. Was admittedly very poor marking for the third goal

Credit where credit is due....a good game...two goals

But one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Come back when he has had a good run of games with good performances 👏

    Let's be sensible 👍

He’s played 100 games for us, if he’d never had a run of good games surely he’d never have had so many appearances, be sensible

I dunno, £18m seems like good money for a kid who was struggling at Solihull Moors a couple of years ago. Doesn’t mean he won’t go on to be worth way more than that in the future but I think we’ve done reasonably well to get this figure at this point in time.

Agree with this, I doubt many Villa fans even knew who he was before the Barrow hat trick. He’s clearly come on leaps and bounds but it does look like Championship might be his ceiling, this deal seems like a great way of finding that out

  6. He frustrated me no end last year but watching the video the club put out showing all of the goals we scored last season did surprise me when I realised how many goals he was involved in. Weirdly a lot of them very early on in matches at home. He’s been nothing more than an average signing so far for the money spent but he does seem to get more stick than he probably deserves.

  7. Great game, am I missing something though. Shouldn’t it have been 4 to win off the free hit? They ran a single and had a no ball when there was six to win, I kept thinking they would correct the scoreboard as surely running three off the last would have meant a tie?

No idea why we're bowling spin still. We have 6 months of no test cricket left. We can't go with the quicks????

This thread is basically therapy for you during the matches isn’t it, so endlessly negative 😂

Effectively 118-1. What we don't need is the usual mid-innings collapse after lunch. Duckett started well then fell. Crawley has started well and is prone to then letting his innings collapse. Root has been awful since day 1 of the series so we need runs from him for a change. Real chance to post a good score and have enough time to try and take the 10 Australian wickets

Root scored 84 last week before getting bowled by a pea roller

I'd say the home kit was more Tommy Johnson for me

The away shirt Alan Wright for some reason. Strange how we remember things.

The goal away at Middlesbrough I’m guessing is why you remember him for that kit

The English were not so fussed about ‘the spirit of the game’ last summer.

Regardless of your views on how sporting yesterdays dismissal was, surely you can concede that’s not in anyway a valid comparison?

As a Villa fan, I’m kind of embarrassed by how many idiots and miserable gits we have in our fanbase, online platforms like Twitter and Facebook have just exposed them. Maybe I was naive in thinking our supporters weren’t quite as bad or foolish as some others…

Too many go too far aswell… that’s what bothers me rather than those who can construct or form an opinion that may be viewed as overly negative or pessimistic. As long as said person shares it sensibly without resorting to pettiness or idiocy (or worse, I’ve never understood why people feel the need to resort to personal attacks and foul language either) then it’s fine and constructive criticism is healthy… but making stuff up isn’t! There have to be genuine reasons for positivity too otherwise there’d just be dreamers and no realists…

I’ve seen some disgusting language and aggression at times. It really is pathetic & embarrassing, some people need to grow up and develop a brain…

Whisper it quietly but there is more to life than football/sport… more that’s worthy of getting worked up about too…

The irony of this post considering the state you used to get yourself in in the Austin Macphee thread

He certainly suggested he was in his plans, for this season anyway: “Today I think the first player who leaves is Cameron Archer (to Middlesbrough on loan) but I didn’t speak to Danny about it. The idea is to keep him in the squad."

I’m not really sure I understand your angle on this, you’ve suggested this massively disrupts preparations for Saturday and now you seem to be insinuating this is happening against Emery’s wishes?

  14. 1 minute ago, duke313 said:

Thanks for making that up.  Here's a quote from Emery himself contradicting what you've said.

Emery said: “Danny is a very good player in the first XI. Against Brighton he scored two goals and, usually, he gives impact. I’m really so happy with him."

Do you honestly not see the difference between praising a player for an individual performance (after Emery’s second match in charge where Ings was drafted in to start last minute) and Emery thinking he’s part of his long term plans?

The timing of this is bad, completely disrupts out preparation for Southampton.

Sorry are you suggesting Ings was starting on Saturday? He’s not started any of the league games since the World Cup, the only slight impact on preparation will be Emery deciding who takes his place on the bench
