  1. post above refers to carlo ancelotti obviously
  2. yep i don't get it either, in terms of motivation alone if during training he tells you you're as good as almost anyone he played with/managed you'd be given a HUGE boost. remember he was at the center of one of the best club sides OF ALL TIME (sachi's milan, gullit, rijkaard, baresi, van basten, maldini etc etc) and has managed some of the greats of the modern era too.
  3. certainly since the 20s that would be true, before then we were the ac milan/real madrid of world footy (small world granted). getting someone as proven world class as ancelotti would be huge.
  4. seeing as he wants to stay in england, has refused the hammers and in italy has QPR being touted as a possible destination the only thing against us with regards to landing ancelotti would be the london factor. if his family and him want to stay there then there's not much we can do i'd reckon. personally i think he'd be great, if we could get 4 or 5 years out of him he could really turn us around.
  5. no news at all, been doing the rounds all day REALLY want to know who has been approached, statement on GH from club etc.
  6. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/aston-villa-specials/next-permanent-manager carlo out to 20s from 14s, jol pretty similar to yesterday at 14s, hughes aournd evens apart from skybet who have him firmly nailed on.
  7. yup, what i was thinking re: ancelotti, but i've read over here that he's up for the QPR job, which does put a different light on it. plus ANYONE saying they want to work in the prem is not abotu to loand a job at united, citeh, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool or spurs. we are surely one of the best propositions outside of that lot? I'm not convinced that Ancelotti is desperate to stay in the Premier League. I didn't buy that ridiculous story about West Ham and common sense would suggest that an innocuous comment was massively exaggerated by a London media always keen to inflate the stature of West Ham. I think some of his statements about considering staying here have more to do with him and his family liking life in London and the prospect of a move to the Midlands may not hold the same allure. I would be surprised but not shocked if there was any kernel of truth in the QPR rumour - I think they are primed to become the new circus act of the Premier League due to the fact they have an egomaniac in charge and a lot of cash to throw around. If Ancelotti does take another job in this country, it will likely be short-term before moving back to the continent - reason enough to give us pause - and he may see QPR as a convenient stopover with a big pay-out. he was approached and refused a contract with west ham according to the italian article that linked him with both us and QPR. true about him maybe wanting to stay in london though, and QPR can offer him a lot of money. as for the roma speculation, it was all over the place here a month or so ago, and now no-one seems to be linking him with the post.
  8. http://football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_6961739,00.html deschamps talking to roma, the italian press seem to think luis enrique will land the roma job though.
  9. yup, what i was thinking re: ancelotti, but i've read over here that he's up for the QPR job, which does put a different light on it. plus ANYONE saying they want to work in the prem is not abotu to loand a job at united, citeh, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool or spurs. we are surely one of the best propositions outside of that lot?
  10. ancelotti always plays attractive footie, as for him not bringing through youth, ever heard of pato? also luis enrique seems to be on his way to roma, with ancelotti preferring to stay in the prem. he has always working at the top of the game, both as a player and as a coach, and would be able to see what we lack to get there and i think he's intelligent enough to put us on the road to get there. if we can't get him, i like deschamps too, and as people have said he might be an option for continuity with duverne etc. i don't mind hughes, he can probably do a job for us, he was part of the transformation of united from being a strong side to winning regularly (in his second spell), so he can probably see what we are lackinng in order to get up the table. i just don't think he'd be as much of a draw for top players when we are outside of european qualification... it's a massive appointment this one, we need to get the best that is available, and right now there are a lot of good candidates looking for work in the prem...
  11. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/13583587.stm thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou...
  12. to all those saying ancelotti is pie in the sky, dreamland etc. i thought that too a few weeks ago. if you look back a couple of pages though i posted a few articles in the italian media (i've been living in and around rome for the last 6 years) that link him with us and QPR. he was being heavily linked with a move to roma, where he used to be a player, however they all say now that he wants to stay working in the prem, has refused a west ham contract offer with QPR his most likely destination in london. one article saying the most probable was villa or QPR. this is the article that mentions us... http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/milan/?action=read&idnet=bWlsYW5uZXdzLml0LTUzNjk4 there was an article a few days ago on gazzetta (main sports paper/site here) that linked him with QPR too, as well as ranieri. seems to have disappeared though that! he's also linked with zenit over here but if it's true he wants to stay in the uk and is considering QPR. surely we're a better bet?
  13. couple of maybe interesting articles doing the rounds over here... http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/milan/?action=read&idnet=bWlsYW5uZXdzLml0LTUzNjk4 this basically refutes the rumour in italy that ancelotti was on his way to arsenal, saying that QPR or us are the most likely destinations. going on to explain houllier's departure from villa. http://www.itasportpress.it/?action=read&idnotizia=55793 this one doesn't mention us but says he has refused west ham, would like to stay in london with QPR a more probable destination than the hammers. http://www.calciomercatoweb.it/ultime-calciomercato/2011/05/30/calciomercato-roma-ancelotti-rifiuta-il-west-ham/#utm_source=feed&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed that one just says he has refused west ham, and prob won't go for the roma job (something he has said he would like to do in the future) as he wants to remain in the premier league. surely we're more attractive a job than QPR??? come on randy....
  14. k, i don't think anyone is saying ancelotti or else. everyone has said that he may be out of our league. BUT he has said he wants a job in the UK... Man U - ferguson - going nowhere yet Arsenal - wenger - going nowhere Man City - mancini - going nowhere Spurs - harry - going nowhere Liverpool - kenny - going nowhere we are potentially the best club outside of that lot aren't we? so we should DEFINITELY be going for his services. worst that could happen is we end up with hughes, moyes, jol, ranieri, rijkaard, martinez or benitez. which to be fair wouldn't be the end of the world, although i don't like the idea of benitez much!
  15. tried them all have we? Nope but it's true. Logic fail anyway - you want us to keep trying with foreign managers until eventually one of them is a success? um, maybe trying to get the best manager regardless of where he was born might be a start on the road to success?
  16. i said it may not be realistic, we shoudl deffo be sounding him out though, he's out of work and wants to work in the uk. the regular CL clubs aren't looking for new management, spuds won't get rid of harry, king kenny is set to reign for the forseeable at anfield, we are potentially the best of the rest. so if he wants to stay in england, that means he accepts he won't just walk into a club in the CL. i'm personally going to pray for carlo. after that jol, hughes i'd prefer to moyes to be honest...
  17. wtf!?!? just NO to fat sam. you'd seriously prefer fat sam to ancelotti? i mean, seriously??? i'd be ecstatic to get carlo, i'd be totally gutted with sam. although ancelotti might not be realistic, if we could get jol, he put spurs on the path to getting into the top 4. hughes hasn't proven to be as good as either of them YET, but did great work straight away with a limited wales squad and isn't doing bad at fulham. no harm in trying for someone like carlo though, he'd be a massive pull for top drawer players...
  18. if there's even the remotest hope of getting carlo ancelotti then there's no-one else even close as far as i'm concerned. he's won everything as a player and as a manager in club football, would be a major draw for great players to come to us etc. i just can't see him coming unfortunately
  19. yep awesome if it stays like this for us, second half hat trick from bent gets him the golden boot too
  20. um, what about the best ref ever against arsenal?!?!?!? who'd have thoughw e might get 6 points from arsenal and liverpool and finish tenth?
  21. yeah houllier as DoF with deschamps would be good, deschamps doesn't exactly give you flair footy but he knows the continental DoF + head coach model well, his sides are well organised and keep the ball well too. would be great i reckon.
  22. yup, would love wilkins as head coach with GH more upstairs looking after transfers, youth development, big picture style stuff.
