That's a fair point, but he's still guilty of seeing a tactic failing for two years and then thinking, "you know what, more of this on an epic scale and we'll break through!"
He should have seen it coming, too. The American civil war was plenty of warning....but that's an unfair accusation to him. The German command at Verdun were equally as shit. They were all slow to adapt.

Don't be fooled by Blackadder's portrayal of him [emoji4]
WW1 was a huge shift in the way war was fought (tanks , new tactics etc) so I think he cops a lot of criticism unfairly , He may not be a great General but he wasn't the worst one to ever take command either
I can't even remember the portrayal in Blackadder. I have more of a problem with him seeming to not understand that underground reinforced concrete withstands explosive bombardment and walking in lines across mud after blowing a whistle to let the enemy know you're coming when they're armed with Maxim machine guns is incredibly stupid.

clearings in the woods, both of 'em.
True, but most are.
I'm going to put in a shout for "Stonewall" Jackson.
Worst general in history has to be Haig.

I am appalled by the Generals mentioned so far. Where are Patton and Monty?!

I literally have no idea who you are talking about but there's only one Levi as far as I'm concerned and he's the one who posts 20,000 words on a topic when 15 will do [emoji4]
Don't pretend you've never made little squeaky noises accompanied by, "wicked! Wicked! Junglist massiv!"
We all did it Tony.

No, Young Thug has done more decent songs than Blackalicious have done, just that his haven't been properly yet, (they were all leaked last year).
Ah, that clears that up then.

He's very good but not better, although with Blackalicious he's made better albums than Thug has with his releases. I could name an whole host of rappers better than Gab.
So the gist of this is that he's not as good, but he's better.

Lesiman - 'Here & Now' 1 & 2
This is really, really, really good - gave it a listen earlier. I love dusty moody stuff like this from the late 60s and 70s that sound like cop show soundtracks.

We're talking about Young Thug as if he's just torn up the rulebook and reinvented hiphop. At a time just after the release of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly.
-
That is the worst hiphop I've listened to in about a year. Autotune and stripped back 808 crunk beats, my absolute favourite.
I feel like I have to clean my ears. I might put Big Grams or Run the Jewels.

Young Thug has taken 'Hip Hop' to an whole other level, best rapper ever, he doing to rap what someone like Coltrane did to Jazz.
I've been listening for 5 minutes and it's about as special as a sausage roll. Get Anderson Paak on instead.

HOW do we still end up with these type of journeyman players who can't be bothered to put in a shift? Jean II Makoun, Stephen Ireland, Zogbia...

He needs to stop tweeting. Saying nothing is better than any bile that he reacts to. Idiocy makes idiocy.

There should be a new Gang Gang Dance album. Can't think of anything I'm particularly looking forward to. But a few I'll be interested to hear how they sound and might turn out to be decent.
I do like the fact that Gang Gang Dance always really push their limits with their sound. Looking forward to see what they do next

Listened to this the other day. I didn't like his one before, it was a bit too ambient for me. Don't get me wrong, I do like ambient stuff (new release from Steve Reich is on at the moment) but not from Surgeon.
This one though, man Mr Childs is back on form. What a belter

Yeah it's an enjoyable, rather wistful read. Drinking beer from a vessel made of china, I must give that a go some day.
I remember reading that article last year and wondering what Orwell would make of the Moon under water in Wolverhampton.
As for pub recommendations, if George's Moon under water in Wolves doesn't appeal, The Posada is quite good. Probably one of, if not the best pub in the centre of town.
And following a stag do a few months ago, if you're ever in Cork, I'd suggest The Oval and An Bodhran Bar. Both small, traditional pubs with a good atmosphere.
I wonder what he'd have made of what was the Moon Under Water on Upper Street, a stones throw from Canonbury Square where he lived. I don't think the people that named the pub read the article.
It was cack. Still is. Good for football, and I don't have that much interest in that anymore.

I'll be visiting London in a couple of weeks. (Around the O2) Any recommendations apart from the above that needs a visit?
If you're visiting the O2, you'll be around Greenwich. A couple of regular boozers for me in that neck of the woods are:
The Gypsy Moth - this is by the Cutty Sark. If you arrive in Greenwich via. the Thames Clipper, it's the first pub you encounter. Good food in this one, a lovely little beer garden. They used to have an unusual beer selection, but someone bought it out a couple of years ago....I think Taylor Walker or M&B.
The Greenwich Union - A meantime pub, and Meantime make a lovely pint. If you're a real ale purist, maybe not for you as Meantime have adopted the American style 'pale ale' revolution everyone is going mad for - so it's all Nitro tap. If you're more up for a traditional pint head next door to
Richard I - Probably the best beer in this area. Had a couple of sessions here.

The deal is probably the biggest disgrace to Democracy in the Western hemisphere I've witnessed since George W. Bush cheated to get in the White House.
The wheels are turning for TPP in the Pacific at the moment, and the whole thing scares me.

I take back my thinly veiled slur at stacey flounders for sticking by him. She's had a lot of flack. But clearly split and everything has been kept private. Fair play. Poor kid.
