Just my opinion but the oddest thing about all these complete failures of signings is that none of them, at the time, were seen as a bad signing.

Given was a no brainer (a bit like Richards, Lescott and many others at the time)

Beye - the Newcastle fans were gutted to have lost him as he was one of their best players at the time (as per Warnock, Reo-Coker, Curtis Davies and many more)

N'Zogbia was highly rated, a good reaction to losing Young at the time and 9.5m wasn't OTT as a fee.

It's just when they arrive there's somethinf that transforms them into pr1cks.

To be fair, Given wasn't a complete failure. His first season under He Who Shall Not Be Named was very good, infact he was just as important in keeping us up as Darren Bent was (until injured). Everyone questioned the length of contract though. His confidence went to shit after the Euro's.

N'Zogbia had a past, especially at Newcastle, and he only ever showed up for 1/4 of Wigan's games...

And Richards, a lot of people questioned how much playing time he'd had abroad, and the fact he'd be put straight in as a centre back, when we really could've done with him as a right back.

  2. Got my ticket earlier today through the website (using Mobile data as well that was far below 3G... that was hard work!) which has been surprisingly stable! Whoop!

I think the criteria will be down to 6+ games tomorrow, doesn't look like they're all going to go today. I hope so at least, hoping I can get my mate a ticket and also move my seat so they're at least close to each other.

  3. Does anyone know if pre-season games are counted as part of the criteria?

I rang up a few weeks ago when the criteria was first announced just to check and was told that they are, but then rang up  today was told they’re apparently not!

As usual there is nothing on the site confirming what does count and what doesn’t…

  4. Gabby is a complete word removed. His attitude is terrible and he's constantly calling fans "broke tramps" and suchlike on Keek/Twitter. Funny how he always performs when a contract renewal is near, too.

Would love it if he left tomorrow.

  5. I think the only way us Villa fans can look at this without getting too despondant (dont worry, I feel the same too) - is to think of this as........We have a hungry striker, who used to be good, who will be busting a gut to make an impression during the final year of his contract to earn a pay day at the end of it. Let's just hope he scrapes enough goals to see us through this potentially abysmal season.

One bonus is that we will have a big target man (Kozak, then Benteke) to play alongside him, as he always has had wherever he's flourished.

Hutton, again, will be busting a gut to make an impression and might be a decent option against some of the opposition.

Not sure I'd call them Hungry unless you're talking about money... certainly not hungry for success.

We must assume that people aren't that stupid, no matter how their actions look:

    • Lambert will only walk if he has another job lined up (Celtic rumours abound) or he see's total decimation next season and isn't prepared to let his reputation suffer further. Wrapped up in this is the Karsa/culvershouse issue perhaps?
    • Randy wants out, but for a fee. He must know that entering the season without a manager and a weak team will only drive the price down. Conversely, a quick sale could result in a higher price as the new owner can start afresh in time for the new season.
    • Telling the world you want to sell something is a calculated action - it could lead to an auction, driving the price up; or it could be a sign of desparation, driving the price down.

It is my opinion, that on the balance of probabilities, the rumours of a relatively quick sale are more likely to be true than the more pessimistic ones, as it would justify Randy's actions from his perspective.

I suspect that Lambert knows a lot more than us, and may know that a new owner will want him out and he will only get 1 years wages. If he is to walk, it is therefore more likely that he thinks he can get another job pretty much straight away with a longer deal.

Faulkner is just a club employee, so will do as he is told.

I am not ITK, but assuming everyone involved will act with a degree of common sense - these are my guesses!

Good reasoning, based on a rational model of behaviour for Mr Lerner.

But remember this is the man who appointed Alex McLeish to the general bemusement and disbelief of an onlooking world, so we can't necessarily assume this is all progressing in a rational way.

That's initially what I thought but Randy is a businessman first so I would put my money on him being more competent to sell something, than appoint a football manager.

  7. I'm not sure why people have such a problem with the dafabet logo.

I mean, we all know a shirt without a sponsor would be the best. But as far as sponsor logos go, Dafabet is pretty unoffensive. Just clean text with a small logo.

    It's fine

    Agreed. This was far worse:

  8.

Fulham will not buy Darren Bent, absolutely no chance.

They have got a £10m+ striker already sat on the treatment table since January. I think their main concern will be what to do with him!

Like Hutton, Given, the Zog and Ireland the bomb squading of these players has left us with players worth nothing in the market. Bent has gone from £24m to zero horrendous piece of business Mr Faulkner.

He was never realistically going to earn us a profit at the age he joined us and the price we paid for him. However he did help keep us in the league for 2 seasons, and contributed a bit to a 3rd but by then he was losing his quality.

Watched him play the other day for Fulham and everything he did was poor. Poor touch, movement, shooting and decisions. Don't think he'll be playing in the PL next season.

  9. Lambert doesn't serve up a poor brand a football, more our players are mostly incapable of dishing up anything better. I don't get comparisons with Mcleish. We've never been a defensive team under Lambert. A crap one maybe, but not defensive.

When our backs are too the wall and we (fans) are up for the game we often turn up under Lambert. In the matches against the bigger teams, must wins etc. The only stand-out exception would be the Bradford disaster.

We are shyte when not motivated, or playing in games we *should* win. But I think that as much to do with the toxic home crowd as it is Lambert.

Imagine if the crowd was like Saturday every week... It's not a shock that we let Hull into the game when the crowd went silent after the first goal.

  10. Think the pinstripes will be as thick as the ST template that was released for fans to vote on. Or maybe a thick stripe in the middle with thin ones to the side.
