  1. god this zog transfer has everton and sunderland fans up on one lol .. sunderland fans are real bitter .

Dont see why Nzogbia would want to go their and club on a downhill slant, Bent will no doubt keep them up, cause he will score no matter who he plays for. Even though we may or may not have bidded for Nzogbia dont really see what he will achieve at Villa and what is so special about the club...

CHARLES N’ZOGBIA will interrupt a four-day break in Dubai to complete his £10million move to Aston Villa.

An agreement was finally reached last night for the Wigan winger, after Villa had originally refused to up their £9m bid, and he will undergo his medical in the next 24 hours.

New Villa boss Alex McLeish will next try to sign West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, providing the Hammers lower their £8m asking price.

  4. This is becoming a joke over £1mil ....

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has warned Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish against playing a waiting game for Charles N’Zogbia and admitted he “can’t understand” why their Premier League rivals are refusing to match his £10 million asking price.

Villa line up N'Zogbia to replace DowningEverton to make £9m N'Zogbia bid - report

In an exclusive interview with Goal.com, sports retail tycoon Whelan has told McLeish to forget about signing N’Zogbia for anything less than £10m this summer even though he accepted a £9m bid from Birmingham for the player when the Scot was in charge at St Andrew’s last year.

A defiant Whelan is refusing to budge over prized asset N’Zogbia amid reports that the former Newcastle player will go on strike and refuse to train in an effort to force through a move away from the DW Stadium as the transfer saga took another twist.

McLeish has earmarked N’Zogbia as the replacement for Stewart Downing following his £20m move to Liverpool but in the light of that business Whelan insisted that buying his player for half that price would amount to “stealing”.

Whelan told Goal.com: “Aston Villa are still offering nine million and I want 10 million. They offered nine and I said 'no thanks, you will have to make it 10 and then you can talk to him'. Other clubs are interested so there is no way I will be going down to nine million.

“We said 10 million and I am not going to let him go for a penny less. They have got £20m for Downing and they would be stealing N’Zogbia for 10 million. Stealing him. He is the best wide player in the Premier League without question so I can’t understand what they are doing.

“Last year we accepted nine million from Birmingham when Alex McLeish was their manager very late on in the summer transfer window and he thinks he is going to do the same again this time around, but he isn’t.”

North-east rivals Sunderland and Newcastle, as well as Everton, have been linked with the former Le Havre player who is out of contract at the end of next season but Whelan revealed that neither have tabled bids for the 25-year-old French international.

Whelan continued: “Lots of clubs will be interested but all I look at is who is offering money and who has put a bid in and Sunderland as yet have not put a bid in. I do not know whether Newcastle are interested or not because they have not put an offer in.

“I would like to extend his contract so he would stay at Wigan because I rate him so highly but I don’t think he will stay. However, we will have to wait and see.”

Wigan: N'Zogbia will only go for £10million

Published 23:00 18/07/11 By David Anderson

Dave Whelan has told Aston Villa to pay his £10million asking price for Charles N’Zogbia or the deal is off.

The Wigan owner claims Villa’s £9m offer is unacceptable, even though the winger has less than 12 months left on his Latics contract and has refused to sign a new one.

“It’s £10m or there is no deal,” said Whelan. “They offered us £9m and we refused it; firstly because we would like to keep Charles, and secondly because if he is to go, then we have to get the right price for him.

“Charles has played fantastically well in the last year and, with his pace and penetration, there’s no doubt in my mind that he is the finest left-winger in the Premier League.

“We owe him a lot, not least for his goal against West Ham that helped us stay up.

"If the right offer comes in, we would consider it, if it was in his best interests - but it has to be the right offer.”

  7. I thought he wasnt for sale Eck :)

Alex McLeish expects Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing to maintain the right attitude and professionalism if his hopes of a move to Liverpool fail to materialise.

Villa have rejected bids of £12million and £15million from the Reds for Downing and McLeish wants the England international to remain at the midlands club.

McLeish says he overcame failing to secure a move to Manchester United as a player and would expect the same response from Downing if he is still at Villa next season.

He said: "I've spoken to Stewart, I've told him I don't want to sell him.

"There's an obvious distraction there for him but he's been a credit to himself and applied himself in the right way and worked his socks off in training. I don't see a problem professionally.

"Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign me for Manchester United when I was at Aberdeen and that wasn't possible in the end.

"That was a big disappointment but I got my head down and worked and I don't doubt Stewart has the character to get through this if he stays at the club.

"It's part of your growing up as a footballer."

Villa will demand £19-20million if it becomes apparent they cannot retain Downing, who has two years remaining of his current contract.

McLeish is optimistic of signing a new keeper to replace Brad Friedel in the near future with Shay Given expected to complete a £3.5 million move from Manchester City.

He said: "We certainly need a keeper and we are making progress. We would like it to happen a bit quicker but we are moving forward."
