Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert will make Grant Holt his first signing of the transfer window.

Holt, who played for Lambert at Norwich, has fallen out of favour at Wigan and will be allowed to move on loan.

Lambert is keen to get a new striker in after losing Libor Kozak for the rest of the season with a broken leg.

The £7million summer signing from Lazio sustained the injury after a challenge with team-mate Ciaran Clark at the club's Bodymoor Heath HQ .
