I rate M Petrov over Downing......this would be a great move to provide competition on the left flank.

Milner will be sold....I have little doubt of that. His valuation will not be much more than 20 million--close to the 24 million that was spent on Lescott last year (which was considered over-the-top at the time). Those of you that think anyone will pay 30-40 million for Milner are dreaming. I think he is a very good player, but a bit overrated by many on this message board. I just hope that he isn't sold unless a comparably effective central midfield replacement has been arranged beforehand (Carrick, Benayoun, Ireland, Parker--I would be happy take any of these for plus some cash to help buy a great striker for Milner).

Heskey only cost us 3.5 million, why is everyone so upset about him??......this is reasonable value for a 3rd striker. He is a decent squad player on value.

I actually don't think we need another striker if we can land the right 2 new midfield additions that allow us to score from the midfield and play 4-5-1....... Honestly, I think adding Banayoun and Carrick would would make us competitive with any of the top 4 (barring major injury)......Carrick or another good holding/passing midfielder would free Milner to score even more. Gabby Downing Benayoun Milner Young Carrick (holding) ....should be good enough to compete with almost anyone.
