  1. Ian Taylor has spoken out for a lot of fans..

'Randy, prove your ambition - pick Ancelotti'

    Express and Star

Villa legend Ian Taylor today urged owner Randy Lerner to do everything he can to persuade Carlo Ancelotti to take the vacant manager’s position.

Gerard Houllier has now formally left the club after the terms of his settlement were concluded and Villa’s board will now draw up a shortlist of names to replace the Frenchman.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is the current favourite as he is able to exercise a break clause in his contract which would allow him to leave Craven Cottage for nothing, although Mohammed Al Fayed is hopeful of persuading him to sign a new deal.

But Express & Star columnist Taylor, who is Villa’s official ambassador, revealed former Chelsea boss Ancelotti would be his No.1 choice to take over.

“If there is even the slightest chance they can get him, then Villa have to go for Carlo Ancelotti,” said Taylor.

  2. We are one of the top teams in this league so it would hardly be something new to him. He's shown he can buy in players and rebuild a squad quite well. He has also shown he has a good eye for talent after what he did at Parma. They spent a fair bit yes, but we can spend a fair bit too.. Ancelotti coming here would be a pretty easy job for him. At best he only needs to buy a new goalkeeper and some defenders, at worst some midfielders too.. The rest will be down to his tactics and work ethic.

    1. We are not one of the top teams in this league. We are a long way off fourth. and now that liverplop are back on form, 6th is probably the best we hope for.

    2. So it would be easy except for the fact that we need to sign a goalkeeper, a few defenders and a few midfielders? Half a team then?!

All time table says we are one of the top teams in English football never mind the Premier League since 92/93 we have been known as the great under achievers, but we do have a pretty full trophy cabinet.

I am well aware of our history my friend. I am also aware that we have not won a trophy for 15 years and the last time we finished in what would now be a CL spot was also 15 years ago.

At the moment we are at best 6th best (not biggest) team in the league.

So were Parma when Ancelotti took them over - and wow we haven't won a trophy in 15 years, its a lot worse for other clubs most notably Everton.

  4. I don't think it will be Ancelotti to be honest, even the Sky Italia report said he refused the job (I had it translated by 2 seperate fluent Italian speakers just to clarify, it's not a mis-translation, it says he refused the job...), I think it will be one of Jol or McClaren (not a fan!).

Nope, I had it translated by one of my best friends who is fluent in Italian and was born Italy, he said 'Sky Italia also are refusing to rule out Carlo Ancelotti' - Carlo has gone on record saying he wants to stay in the Premier League, said he'd even manage West Ham for crying out loud.

  5. Simple question, Moyes, Jol, and Hughes, as managers what have they won?

    Now compare that to Ancelotti.

    Surely the choice is obvious?

yeah, the choice is obvious if youre a huge club with massive resources. but apply the restraints of villa to this. who has most experience working with low wage ceilings? who has experience searching out bargain players? who knows how to get the most out of the resources at hand?

whats the last team carlo ancelotti managed where he couldnt just go out and buy whoever he wanted? he has operated on a whole different level to villa for years, expecting him to slot into buying players he'd never have considered at his other jobs is no guarantee for success

    Chelsea.

  6. David Moyes, you having a laugh?

With CARLO ANCELOTTI out of a job then surely General take that chance and bite - if we had him, that would most certainly is a statement of intent and progress, plus Carlo plays a similar style of football and is an absolute gent, this guy won the double with Chelsea, and if Randy wants Champions League qualification, he could very well get us there with lowered expectations plus he may like the oppurtunity to build his own team, something he didn't get at Chelsea.

By the way anything announced for our pre-season friendly for when we usually play a big Euro team, General? Rumours around Italy its Napoli just asking :D

  7. What annoys me is this is yet more negative press for Aston Villa. I can't blame any player from wanting a better job with more money but I can't stand the "ambition" quote. Have Villa got none? Are we that poor that we HAVE to sell our better players? A few weeks ago we were told that he isn't for sale, we are also informed that Downing is happy and he feels he owes us. I appreciate that he hasn't left yet but it's when, not if, I think. What is going on behind the scenes?

Randy Lerner at the end of season interview after said Milner and O'Neill wouldn't be going anywhere.

    Look what happened there.

Same old shit - but Doug obviously saw himself in Randy.
