I think having 18 months off is really going to hurt his career. Some players get injured for a couple of months and it takes them months to get their form back.

Players don't usually get to the same level as before their big injuries too, which isn't ideal as we need him to improve and be better than the level he was before.

Can anyone think of a player with this type of injury and play as well as before or even improve after the injury? Delph?

Gary Gardner - s... before and s... after!

For the money we paid then there aren't many better wingers out there in the PL in terms of output.

Agree with this and don't understand all of the negativity.  He can be frustrating but so can all players.  The key point is that he's delivering and more so than any winger in the league that I can think of - happy to be corrected.

Can anyone remember a Villa keeper in Premier League history that caught the ball as much as Emi does? I know he's a giant but blimey does he have great ability at catching a football.

David James was amazing (some would say crazy) at coming for crosses.  I never had the confidence with him though that I do with Emi.

I wouldn’t be that devastated if I got to retire at 30 with a £7m pension.

    Agreed.

But that's not the way that we work as individuals - we want motivation, targets, achievements.

I understand your point but it's like saying Stan Collymore can't be depressed because he's rich.

I imagine we will come to some arrangement with him to terminate early.

I genuinely feel sorry for Lans - a good guy who's apparently a big positive in the team but for whom it just hasn't worked out for a combination of reasons. Good luck and thank you from my perspective.

Well, it's clear from that interview that Southgate has no intention of calling up Grealish after the likes of Rashford, Greenwood, Foden and Henderson return.  "He got to dip his toes in.   He got to experience the setup and see the intensity..."     Those aren't things you say about someone you plan to use.   Those are words you use about someone who you feel you've done a favor.   It's also almost as if he was saying to the press and pundits, "You were clamoring for him to get a chance.   I've given it to him, now can we please move on."

Jack got a fist hand reminder on what a "r(ichard) sole" Southgate is and how he's "respected" by the team when two 20 year olds give him the big middle finger to his pearls of wisdom & authority.  Image Sir Alf, Brian C or Alex F's response!!!  What a clearing in the woods

Don't know where to start with this. He won a cup and got to a UEFa Cup final with boro, whereas we were a club being smothered to death by Deadly, and we've not won anything since Southgate left. He made the right decision for himself, tbh.

As for referencing "turnip" as a Villa fan. Good **** grief.

Don't know what you mean by "referencing turnip as a Villa fan"?

I thought maybe after posting this I had gone too far, said too much. I wish I'd gone further 😬

Totally agree.  This is Mr "look at me" who talks about morals and professionalism & left Villa by sending a transfer request via fax from an England squad - Arsehole!  Very bitter as his "professionalism" led to him going to a team with ambition, Middlesborough FFS!  Mr Sensible who has struck lucky with a talented team - turnip head v2

To be honest, none of the papers hold much weight, I just can’t stand the Mails click bait.

Totally agree.  Seems that their so called journalism consists of monitoring twitter.  I remember the good old days when The Mail had seasoned journalists that had inside contacts, trust and info from the club.  Could you imagine anyone at Villa confiding in these clowns.

He has fantastic strength on the ball and when he gets it he rarely loses it cheaply.Yes his finishing needs to improve but I think we should persevere with him.His goals ratio is deceptive, most of his appearances have been as a substitute.

Confidence is crucial for a striker look at Benteke,a few goals I feel would transform him.He will never be a prolific striker but his hold up play makes up for it.

I agree with this.  I'm not sure where to get it but I'd like to see the stats based on minutes played and games started.  I acknowledge however that he's clearly not prolific but better than these stats suggest.

Wes: Overpaid and a poor player

Trez: Overpaid and a poor player

    Targett: Overpaid

Nakamba: Overpaid and up and down

Heaton, Reina, Guilbert, Hause, Mings (just about), Konsa, Engels, Luiz, El Ghazi, Samatta were good signings for the money based on what we had already/have seen.

It'll all be weighed up by Purslow and I presume Suso will be moved on.

I think Smith is performing a miracle before our eyes and I'm not in any rush to give Suso credit for it. He's made Smith's job much harder than it needed to be.

I see Brighton and Norwich have already made several moves in the transfer market. No surprise with Ashworth and Webber in position there. Fingers crossed the two mystery academy signings come to fruition for us.

Wes - NOT SURE. Certainly overpaid but too early to judge and certainly not as overpaid as some of the other signings in the Premier League e.g. Everton

Trez = DISAGREE. I think he's a good squad player and has that special nack of delivering when needed

Targett - DISAGREE.  Ball playing, left footed fullbacks are at a premium. £13m is the going rate and he's improving - it's only his first year in the PL Premier League as a starter.

    Nakamba - AGREE

Heaton, Reina, Guilbert, Hause, Mings (just about), Konsa, Engels, Luiz, El Ghazi, Samatta were good signings for the money based on what we had already/have seen - AGREE with all but Samatta - looks lost to me and way below Jodja

Suso - AGREE, will move on

Smith - UNSURE. Is doing well belatedly but in some key games such as Watford and Bournemouth we just didn't turn-up which is worrying and our record against the top teams is the worst of the bottom pack (I think I saw on VT).  I'm also conserned that he still doesn't know his best team and formation.  To be fair though the Premier League is new to him as well as the players and I therefore cut him some slack.

  12. I'm absolutely sick to death of the quality of this paper - this is the second city in the UK and the paper seems to be staffed by children.

It daily focus is to sell Jack, entice you with click-bait on any subject and to cause conflict and dissatisfaction at VP.

No wonder they've no insight into what is going on at VP - quite seriously, who would confide in these amateurs.

I look forward to the next Villa Nazi Salute rehash and the Ranger Friendly review - and they call it journalism, jeese!!!

It's a cup game. He started all the cup games. He is the 2nd choice keeper.

Why do people expect anyone else to play today?

Because it's a semi final and we've got a fist choice keeper.

Personally I'm happy with him starting as he's made some exceptional saves which he doesn't get credit for.

  14. Agree with this and think this is the way forward.  The only thing I'd suggest is that rather than Wes have Kodj who is more likely to turn the centre half and play on their shoulder for through balls.

  15. I've been a supporter of Wes but today was just terrible.

I honestly wonder whether Dean is obliged to play him or it is within Wes's contract that he's obliged to play.  When you're in a team and you can't get an opportunity when your competition is playing that poorly then what must it do for your motivation.

    Bite the bullet Dean.

Problem is he gets his place back against teams where we have a good amount of possession and some time on the ball. When we are the team who is sitting back he offers nothing, the game just completely bypasses him.

    Spot on
