  1. I am just scared of losing my bachelor lifestyle to be honest. Things will change too rapidly for me.

Plus will have to quit my job this year for my MSC so next year it is.

Probably new year's somewhere in a Cottage in front of the ocean in South America next year and drop the bomb on her(and my parents :P).

  2. So are Spuds certain to qualify? If they are then I have to live with the ignominy of losing a wager with Glaston. :(

Useless Bremen , expected a shit load more of the team. :x

And Inter losing to this lot

No there's at least one scenario where Spurs finish third:

    Twente 3-0 Spurs

    Bremen def. Spurs

    Twente def. Inter

    Inter def. Bremen

Leaves Spurs and Twente tied for second on 12 points apiece and 4-4 on aggregate with Twente qualifying on head-to-head away goals (1-0).

In the same scenario, if Inter draw with Bremen, then they're all on 12 points and then it's a 3-team minileague with Spurs and Twente going through (with who wins the group depending partially on whether a 3-team tiebreaker resets when it becomes a 2-team or not).

So how do you calculate the probability of that happening.?

    Probability = Desired Outcome(Spuds going out ;)) / Sample Space(All possible outcomes).

    :P

  3. I had to pack the heroin in, I found it a bit morish.

The comedown is a really bad person isn't it? It's so damn addictive it's unbelievable.

Won't touch that shit again , ever. The Opiate of choice for me is Tramadol , weak, and with weed provides a stellar combo.

    Prog-rock becomes Org-rock on that.

    :winkold:

Never touched it to be honest. That line is just an oft-quoted joke by certain comedians. I used to smoke a little bit of weed during my early twenties but I prefer a nice glass of claret or some real ale now. Getting old

I am partial to a bit of White on occasion but then again I temper it with a bowl or two , to add to the mellowness , ya know

  4. Is that where you got your taste in music, perchance?

Totally and completely. His ELP and KC LPs with our old brown record player connected to massive industrial size amps, forever in my memory :D

You sure he isn't a taxi driver in Leeds? :) There's a Hindu cabbie round here, about my age, who plays excellent classic rock in his car. I mentioned it to my younger daughter, and she said "Oh yeah, I've used his taxi, he's great; it was Bob Dylan last week". :thumb:

    Haha

Dad's not much into the Dylan-Springsteen stuff. He swore by Prog and still does. Does not have any time for the likes of Led Zep. and Deep Purple. :winkold:

Pop's too damn educated to be a Cabbie though , although the snail like speed he drives on , he wouldn't make a very good one. :D

  7. He is about 8 years older and never went to University. So perhaps that adds some credence to your theory?
    Yes, I think it does.

My dad was a student in the Liverpool Univ. in the 70's , Engineering Dept. Probably around your age Mike ( He is 55 this year). :)

  8. Some people seem to become easily addicted to even supposedly non-addictive substances (or other "vices" such as porn, food, etc.). Others seem to be able to take highly addictive stuff and yet not become dependent.

It's complex, and not fully understood.

    Nail. Head.

  9. the gateway is bullshit because it's the illegal dealers who offer every drug under the sun and probably a lot of which is pretty shit and full of other stuff that is worse for you.

classic case being some cannabis resin where they mix plastic and other substances into it. I think smoking plastic is probably worse for you than cannabis.

if cannabis was legalise on it's own and the illegal side of people obtaining that removed. it being some "gateway drug" would soon disappear.

The concept itself is fundamentally flawed , especially when Alcohol , which is a 'drug' by all definitions of the word is legal.

Why is alcohol not considered a gateway drug?

I think because many people still avoid illegal stuff. The implication is "if it's legal it must be OK, but illegal drugs must be more dangerous". In other words, some people will simply go as far as they can on legal drugs, but not beyond.

And there's alcohol and alcohol. Most alcoholics drink spirits. Most beer drinkers don't become alcoholics, but some do. Is beer therefore a gateway drug to harder liquor? For some, yes. For others, no. Is this a good thing? Maybe.

    Agree with this part.

Though most beer drinkers do partake in harder liquor in my experience(With the possible exception of Americans who love their shitty beers to death).

  11. Long lasting is not necessarily a problem , is it? I mean you CAN get stoned for 8 hours on a Saturday if ya want to laze around and play a bit of Hitman Blood Money(My fav. game these days).

Most adults here drive cars every day.

Is that a theorem? Universally true? :winkold:

I have beeen in the United States many a times for work related purposes so I am not exactly 'alien' to western society , you see. :winkold:

I don't believe , there is a specific reason to believe people HAVE to drive on Saturdays , hence they should refrain from partaking the pleasures of Cannabis.

It was an example , anyway. What if a person is on Holiday? What if I want to eat a hash cookie before I go to bed? :P

  12. Yes, I'm rumbled, I have a hidden government agenda requiring me to spread fear of getting stoned.

I've seen it happen to my friends - it is a gateway drug. I struggle to believe I'll ever think otherwise.

You present anecdotal evidence my friend , I do the same , my own self. :winkold:

Why not turn it upside down? Is it not possible that people who are inclined to addiction turn towards Marijuana first , because of availability and relatively low cost rather than Marijuana making them look for other , more dangerous forbidden pleasures.

    :)

  13. Villa fans seem to have a very keen liking for cannabis, I get a whif of it virtually every time I go to a game. Yesterday there were 2 groups of fans blatantly smoking it in Aston park before kick off and you can usually smell it outside the holte suite after a game. I find it quite funny personally, just the care free manner of these people brings a smile to me.

That just reaffirms the fact that Villa fans are the coolest in the world , doesn't it? :D

On that note , never heard a bad word being said about Villa fans in ANY football message board I've been on , with the exception of RAWK(who hate everybody with a passion, including themselves).

  14. Long lasting is not necessarily a problem , is it? I mean you CAN get stoned for 8 hours on a Saturday if ya want to laze around and play a bit of Hitman Blood Money(My fav. game these days).

You have vapourisers which eliminate most of the harmful byproducts. :D

  15. The 'gateway' drug idea is complete and utter bull and a blatant exercise in fear mongering. If you are going to be an addict , you are going to be an addict, legality be damned.

  16. Yeah I wouldn't equate heroin with cannabis or alcohol use, the stuff is so addictive that moderation isn't something that exists. It's comedowns don't help either, it becomes not only addictive but habitual as well, it becomes a way of life if you get sucked in and it's very difficult to escape.

On cannabis alone I've always had a couple of issues with it. Firstly it is, in my experience, the ultimate gateway drug. In itself it isn't that dangerous at all (more on that in my second issue ;)), but it represents the taboo breaker that gets a lot of people into the drugs scene. I've seen a number of people just in my wider group of friends that started on weed and soon go onto other things because the taboo has been bust for them and they've discovered new avenues in life that open up these substances to them and it ends up in somewhat of a vicious spiral. I've found it interesting to note that even a couple of people I knew to have very strong self control that have gone into weed and said they would stop there, and haven't, which was a complete reverse of character. I disapprove of it's use on that level alone.

The second issue that it does end up, in my experience, defining a number of people that go on it and I find that a bit sad. They go from rounded interesting people to people who do nothing other than talk about how great weed is and evangelising on it, and becoming desperate to have it enter every aspect of their lives. They also tend to wheel out the same hackneyed arguments and start using terms for non users like sheep which is just annoying as ****. Obviously this is a personal issue for myself but I do find the whole weed scene so **** dull.

    Spot on Chindie.

Opiates are the devil. Shaking off a Codeine addiction is hell by itself , the weakest opiate , forget about Heroin.

Its physical addiction , you become sick if you don't continue taking the shit. You end up suicidal and shit.

Same with Benzos , the withdrawals are the work of the devil.

Personally , as of now the only thing I would legalise is Cannabis, all things considered.

  17. You COULD kill yourself with one single drinking session, but it would be difficult.

Or you could 10(including yourself , at the end) :winkold:

    Beauty of alcohol.
