It is going to be one hell of an occasion! I swear never to call the Carling Cup a Mickey Mouse Cup again... as reaching the final has meant a lot to us, and to me! Really cannot wait for Sunday now, just the small matter of work tomorrow then Wembley here I come! I fancy us to do it, United will be weakened with some first teamers still in the 11. Rooney will play, i'm pretty sure of that, he won't want to miss this final after missing last years. I'm going with:
Friedel
Cuellar
Collins
Dunne
Warnock
Young
Milner
Petrov
Downing
Gabby
Heskey
Predictable line-up I think, and one that has serving us well recently!
-
Not a great performance by any means but a very good result! Burnleys 2nd has taken the gloss off somewhat, but a cracking ball in from the boy Cork. Eagles was impressive for Burnley throughout also.
MOM probably Downing for the 2 goals, however he wasn't at his best. Gabby did well throughout, he's looking like a real centre forward these days, and happy for him to add to his goal tally. However, should have done a lot better when through 1 on 1 just before Downings 2nd.
Overall very happy with the 3 points after being 1 down. Roll on the cup games now!!
-
Poor showing first half, Burnley don't look as though they are capable of threatening again, I can see us putting a few past them in the 2nd half, finishing 3-1. Downing and Young have been fairly wasteful, however some of you seem overly critical!! He hasn't been too bad, he can do better thats for sure.
-
This has to be a comfortable 3 points, but as always we will make it difficult for ourselves. I'm saying 2-1 Villa, they gave us a good game at Turf Moor and it took a cameo from Downing to salvage a point, I know they're a completely different prospect away from home, but it will still be difficult.
-
I think Downing is the one who needs resting... he has played every game since returning from his broken foot, which is a lot to ask of anybody. I think Milner could do with a weekend off as well and leave Young in, with that we would still have plenty to see off Palace.

More than enough to win the game and stay solid.

I will hold my vote for a little longer... if Dunne can continue this form throughout the whole season then I think he will just shade it as he has been a collosus, and our defensive record is in large down to him, and his organisation of the whole defence. Time will tell whether he can maintain this form for the rest of the season and beyond. I'm hoping he does because he is my favourite player at the minute!!

Just arrived home, and what a fantastic night!! Was absolutley gutted at 2-0 down and couldn't see where a goal was coming from, but I guess thats what cup football is all about! Milner was quality again, Young looked more dangerous and was desperate for a goal tonight and he took it superbly when it came. Gabby really needs a goal, and it's just not happening for him, had a great chance but fluffed it. Heskey took his goal like an international striker... oh wait he is, but I thought he did really well tonight, some excellent touches.
The crowd was electric! I was sat upper holte K3 and we sung near enough for the 90 mins apart from being crestfallen at 2-0, my voice has completely gone!! The flags were a nice touch and to see them all waving all around VP after each goal and at kick off, was magical!!
Wish I could have made it onto the pitch at the end, but recorded it on my phone for memories! Was no embarrassment at all, was a moving moment!
UTV! Fingers crossed I can get a ticket for Wembley!!
Que sera sera!! We're going to Wembleyy!!!

We will be full strength, and in MON's eyes that means no Delph or Delfouneso. They will play saturday as Jimbo says. It will be the same line-up as Sunday most likely, and MON can again bleet on about tiredness if, god forbid, we don't make Wembley. The only change might be at rb but maybe not as he might try and counter B'burns physicality with DUnne, Collins and Cuellar again.
-
A good solid performance, did the job at hand, I would have taken 1-0 before the game. Milner is a different class in centre mid and downing and young impressed. Dunne was impressive again at cb. Will be interesting to see how our defence lines up Sunday! One foot at Wembley, so so close! Can't wait for Wednesday now!!
-
Buzzing already for this game, can't wait for Sunday to come!! I think we will won quite comfortably, I'm feeling pretty confident about it, but i'm sure some nerves will kick in Sunday morning! I can see Gabby getting on the scoresheet again, he has a pretty good record against the shite! UTV!!

Good solid performance, did what we had to do and won comfortably at a stroll, what I like to see. Clark impressed at the back, did his job to a good standard, Fulham didn't ask many questions but he looked solid enough when called upon.
Friedel - 6 - Didn't have anything to do.
Beye - 6 - Good solid, no mistakes not troubled
Cuellar - 7 - Mentored Clark well, some good challenges. Settling well in the centre of defence
Clark - 7 - Good debut. Solid. Did what was needed.
Shorey - 6 - Decent game nothing spectacular, not worried.
Milner - 7 - Worked tirelessly, good commitment, some nice touches.
Young - 6 - Not his best game, did enough, again nice touches.
Reo-Coker - 7 - Worked hard, some nice passes, did his job well.
Sidwell - 6 - Nothing spectacular, worked hard and well in the trio, more to come arriving in the box perfectly.
Petrov - 6 - Same as Reo-Coker, nothing spectacular.
Gabby - 8 - Did well for his goal, full of running, always an outlet, exactly what is needed from a lone striker.
Subs
Carew - 6 - Nothing much when he came on, won a few headers, bullied defenders.
-
Options on the bench for once is good to see, and shows the squad IS getting stronger. I've got a feeling Big John will ocme on to win it for us today. Glad to see Clark getting the nod, just hope the Dunne deal gets wrapped up soon.
-
Gota feel for reo-Coker after his performance Monday night. Hopefully Carew can get his season up and running tonight with a brace to send us through!
-
Massive, massive game, i'm confident we can turn this around and head to the group stages. We need to be firing on all cylcinders and bag an early goal to settle nerves and get the crowd behind the team. I think we will keep a clean sheet for a change after Monday's heroics, 2/3-0 for me, with an early goal.
-
I can feel a good performance coming on tonight, MON will have the boys riled, we're due a good performance. I will be happy with a point, or we might sneak it 2-1. Liverpool aren't looking there best at the moment and with defensive uncertainty we could cause an upset.
-
General,
I think MON should have a read of Pilchards post also, it would give a great insight into the thoughts and feelings of the fans, and hopefully it won't fall on deaf ears? I think that Pilchards view is shared by the majority of Villa fans at this moment in time. I have faith it will be turned around and come September 2nd we may all have a completely different outlook on the season as that's the nature of football.
-
I'm dreading this match like none before, we need to really up our game against Liverpool to stand any chance of not getting trounced. I'm still hopeful of a CB being signed in time to play, because it's desperately needed.

----------Sidwell--------------NRC--------------Petrov---------
Young-----------------------------------------------------Milner
------------------------------Carew------------------------------
That's the team I would ideally like to see, or a new CB if Davies is unavailable. That is a strong team, maybe throw Delph in for a real baptism of fire instead of Sidders or Petrov if he's lacking fitness still. The best I can realistically hope for is a draw
-
Superb! I'm absolutley loving it! Hopefully not the last silverware of the season!
-
I thinkwe have peaked in this tournament and Juve will be too good for us, a good work-out for the kids and good experience, but Juve will be too strong for us. Still I am immensely proud that we've made the final, a great effort! Look forward to watching us play against quality opposition from abroad in a semi-competitve match.
