  1.

    Skyfall is on Netflix.

    Best bond film. Ever.

Pfft, it's a Bond film only in name.

Casino Royale (2006) is my personal favourite, followed closely by Goldeneye.

Skyfall smashes them two out of the park!

Its like comparing the Dark Knight with Batman & Robin and Batman forever  :D

  2. I'm listening to a classic.

A bona fide, definition of the word classic, classic.

Revered by critics, loved by fans. Hated by Daily Mail readers.

"I'm living In the 21st century, doin' something mean to it,

do it better than anyone you ever seen do it.

Screams from the haters gotta nice ring to it,

I guess every superhero needs his theme music"

  3. What did the team cost the last day 15m? And people want him out?

    YES!

I find it amazing that people forget so quickly how dire the football has been over the past 2 seasons with him in charge?

I find it pathetic that people can't see the budget constraints he's been working under and can't appreciate the fact that the strikers he spent decent money on were both out for the majority of the second half of last season and we were left with a thread bare squad and because of our decent results earlier in the season we still managed to stay up but don't give any credit for the fact that he managed to get results with a crap squad.

Funny that I find it pathetic when people have to come up with the same old excuses to justify dull, passionless drivell as football or say well we beat ManCity but not mention the two thrashings by Fulham!

Anyway we are both entitled to our own opinions so let's leave at that eh?

I think pretty much everyone on here has been disappointed with results and performances in the past two years, that's a given.

Those seasons have gone now, there is no changing the past and we can't have the time back.

So the question is, what does he need to do to earn your support (or at least a stay of execution) now and going forwards?

I'm 'pro Lambert' in the sense that I do not believe he should have been sacked in the summer, but I also think he could be doing better and I expect to see an improvement in results and performances this season. So far he is delivering that.

Had we have started with four losses and played like a pub team, my patience would be wearing thin in the extreme by now, but we haven't and therefore it isn't.

So what does he need to do in the short/medium/long term to get Delboy back on side or is it just a case of you wanting him gone because of past results no matter what the future brings?

Eg if we finish 10th with a decent GD and a better home record, would you then give him a chance IF new owners came in, or would you still want him gone because the two seasons before that were shite?

    Where is the tipping point?

  4. .

Since then, he's continued to be excellent in the transfer window,

    Continued?

I think his success rate has been appalling, partially because of the financial boundaries he has worked within, but a 1 in 6 success rate with transfers is p*ss poor by anyone's standards.

Break this 1 in 6 shizzle down for me VO, I'm interested to see where you get this number from.

    The devil's in the detail.

  5. I've lost a lot of motivation lately.

Don't really know what it is. Managing to stick to my diet more or less but when I get to the gym I just can't wait to get out of there again.

I'm still putting the work in but I'd be lying if I said I'm working as hard as I usually do.

    Annoying.

Feeling the same, I've been worse though - I haven't lifted for nearly 5 weeks now after a real good 6 months of progress.

I've been playing football quite a bit, which is keeping/improving my general fitness, but I need to get back into gear and get lifting.

  6. Anyone started on The Leftovers yet?

A rapture event takes place where 2% of the population disappear…

Seems to be centred around a local police chief and his family

Only watched Ep01 but its quite interesting

Decent Soundtrack too, Max Richter appears a lot

Was interested in this but after hearing the writers don't have a conclusion and are unlikely to have one (or know how long it'll run) - it'll be another Lost for me.... so will probably give it a miss.

That's my concern too with it too. I'm going to give it ago because it's an interesting premise, but without a clearly defined overall story arch it could go downhill fast.

Revolution was similar (although the shit acting/script let that down too). A cracking idea to start with, but quickly turned to shite and went from a great idea about the world losing all power to some modern day civil war bollocks.

On another note, finished series 3 of Breaking Bad last night. Epic.

  7. He was my MOTM today and was the pick of the midfield.

He held that centre ground superbly, played it simple but quickly and displayed moments of great technique. His first touch is the best in he team IMO.

His games is understated, which is why he doesn't seem to get a massive amount of recognition, but he has become and integral part of the side for me.

He needs to be a little bit more expansive in his passing, but he's becoming a cracking little player.

  8. Can't fault the lad today.

I don't think we should be writing him off just yet. He has all the physical characteristics to make a really good centre half. His performance today showed a level of maturity I've not seen from him before.

He also showed discipline, awareness and good concentration, again things I think went missing from his game last year (often all at once in the same game).

23 is nothing for a centre back and he's had to learn his trade under negative pressure in a poor team. Now the squad looks better, he might actually benefit from playing less this year. If he can defend to the level displayed today and work on his distribution, then he could be a really good player.

  9. My message to the Scottish people is simple: we want you to stay.

As the United Kingdom, we have punched above our weight for centuries - and we've done so together.

When the world wanted representation, we gave them democracy. When they wanted progress, we had the Scottish enlightenment and the industrial revolution.

When slavery bound innocent people, we abolished it; when fascism threatened freedom, we defeated it.

As individuals and as nations, we have done extraordinary things. This is the special alchemy of the UK - you mix together Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland and together we smash expectations.

The UK is a special and precious country. So let no one in Scotland be in any doubt: we desperately want you to stay; we do not want this family of nations to be ripped apart.

Across England, Northern Ireland and Wales, our fear over what we stand to lose is matched only by our passion for what can be achieved if we stay together.

So please, if you don't have a vote in this referendum, join me in signing a letter to everyone who does, letting them know that we passionately want them to stay.

If we pull together, we can keep on building a better future for our children. We can make sure our destiny matches our history, because there really will be no second chances. If the UK breaks apart, it breaks apart forever.

So if you have a vote, please choose a brighter future for Scotland by voting No.

And if you don't have a vote, please sign this letter to the voters of Scotland, expressing our heartfelt desire to keep our proud family of nations together.

    Thanks,

    David Cameron

I don't think there is anything wrong with what he is trying to say there, but it goes back to the point about being forced to act. It just comes across as desperate now, rather than a genuine support and affection for the union.

Liken it to a relationship and Scotland is our partner. She's a great girl - nice looking, cultured, contributes to the household, hasn't been overly 'populated' and she can't beat us at sports (except tennis and only posh people play that so it doesn't really count)

Ok so she's a bit of a ginge, gets arsey when she's had a drink and doesn't like being out in the sun for too long, but all in all, she's a keeper.

Except we didn't treat her right, we took her for granted and never told her we loved her. Now she's had enough and if we aren't careful, we are going to come home early from work one day to find Gabby's Lamborghini parked on the drive.

  10. Sorry Tony I couldn't help it.

Although in fairness it was loosely connected to the possibility of an Independent Republic of Salmond and how the Tories can't really be stupid enough to think it might work out for them in the long run?!

  11. It's hard to tell if the Tories are that stupid or not to be honest V4E.

Cretinous, arrogant, elitist, self serving and ignorant are all clearly visible traits, but stupidity I'm not sure on.

Its not like the good old Republicans in the U S of A who wear their stupidity with pride, this lot are a lot more snidey about it!

Boris is does his best to look like a simpleton and George, well it just comes naturally to him.

  12. So reading all the comments above, and seeing the opinion polls, and seeing the clear logic of the arguments on debt and money and EU membership.......

...how would you rate the quality of the 'better together' campaign?

It's been nothing short of awful.

Dickhead Dave and his pals didn't think they needed to do anything, let alone actually campaign positively and properly.

It's typical complacency and lack of understanding about anything outside of London that has now led to the panic situation we are seeing now.

It's exactly the same as the immigration issue in the UK. They only wake up to an issue when extremists start gaining popularity and they realise they HAVE to do something.

  13. I work with a few Scottish business' and they are absolutely shitting bricks now that as yes vote might actually happen.

One pretty sizeable business said they are now making relocation plans and looking for premises in the North of England just in case. The MD is a proud Scotsman and he said there is no way he is staying up there with 'the loonies' if it happens.

Fair play to Salmond and his merry band of mentalists, they have made a lot of noise and done a great 'BNP/UKIP' type job of stirring up the nationalists, the ignorant and the uneducated - but ultimately there a too many sensible people for a yes to actually happen IMO.

  14. I've heard about Scott buying the rights for the films and I can't wait for them to be filmed. I hope he can do them justice. Actually got the news about the films from our own VT film mogul. :)

The thing that worries me is, I think you could easily get 3 or 4 films out of the first two books alone. I would expect the third to be roughly the same in size - there is no way they could fit it into one trilogy IMO, without HUGE sacrifices to the story.

  15. Just finished To Kill a Mockingbird. and I found it a great read. One of the most brilliantly narrated books I have read.

Read this at school back in the 90's.

Remember starting it under duress for detention avoidance purposes and then absolutely loving it. Have read it again since - it's a wonderful book.

Another one from school days (6th form this time) was Truman Capote's 'In cold blood' - remains one of the best books I have ever read and one I plan on reading again at some point.

I've got quite a few options for my next read and now I know the final instalment of the Passage Trilogy won't be out for a while, I am thinking of giving Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy a go.

    Anyone read it?

  16. I'm not seeing much/any love for Ray Donovan, Banshee or Silicon Valley in this thread?

No one watching them or are they just not floating the VT boat?

If there is anyone out there watching 'under the dome', but not the above shows - stop, you won't get that time back!

Its the TV equivalent of having a wank in the bathroom while your girl lies in bed wanting sex.
