It seems Amavi has reportedly failed a medical. I wonder if there's any link to his knee or an underlying issue elsewhere. Fingers crossed for the lad.

Interesting if true, but these things can be overcome. Remember something a few years back about us signing Victor Wanyama only he failed the medical and had "the knees of a 90 year old" then ended up at celtic a few days later and, well, you know the rest.

I still think there is a serious player in Amavi, but it just hasn't worked out. I still think we should recoup the 9m we paid for him at least, but prob wishful thinking.

  2. Glad to see him come back. Loan signings can be hit or miss, but with SJ, we now know that he is at least solid, if unspectacular. Some stability at the back is definitely needed, and he did well towards the end of last season. With JT in front or even coaching Chester & others, things could be a lot more solid defensively. If he picks up where he left off, it will be good business and we would have to be considered as first choice for him once he leaves Utd then.

I ruddy well hope so! A very good goalkeeper on a free. No brainer! Whereas Johnstone for £2.5m, that's a real brainer!

I'm surprised he's only 30, thought he was older. His form has really suffered recently, I would wonder if a committed & confident Gollini would be better.. Still, has the experience we seem to want between the sticks so if wages were low, I'd be ok with it.

  4. Ledley would be a great addition. Terry is a no brainer for me, the guy is a leader & winner. We'd be fools not to take him.

If he became available, would take Calum Chambers or Rob Holding with a view to a permanent. They won't be getting much game time at Arsenal with their options at centre half.

I would love to see Andreas Christensen from Chelsea, but I reckon there will be more after him. Nathan, Wallace, Matt Mizaga, Izzy Brown, Kasey Palmer are others I would take from Chelsea. Get Terry to have a word!

Can't see it unfortunately, as it's most likely a case of making a story out of the golfing picture, does that mean Alex Bruce is coming too?

Absolutely 100% this. piss poor but not even slightly unexpected

  6. The fact that we are sensibly trying to spend money and get a decent player who would give his all for less than a £1m is a very welcome relief. Would much rather spend 800k on Whelan who would no doubt do a job for us over a 46+ game season is far better than spending whatever silly sums we spent on Holman, Sanchez, etc. who either turned out shite or just got loaned out

  7. Who do we think we can actually move on? I can't see anyone coming in for the players we would want to move on (richards, gabby, etc.)

Would like to see us go after Armstrong from Celtic. really tidy player and would be a great option for us.

We could have done a lot more than bring Curtis Davies back, matured as a player and a leader, but I imagine his salary is decent to be fair and we aren't shelling out those wages without shifting people on first.

I think he would have been a great addition. Can't imagine his salary would have been too much though, especially if he was willing to drop down a level.

  9. I like Johnstone and I think he would be a good addition. He has the potential to improve and would be far more settled with a season behind him. But at £5m.. I don't know. Would rather try and get Westwood who has had 2 very strong & consistent seasons.

  10. I think Nathan Ake & Andreas Christensen could be tempted. they won't be getting much game time at Chelski.

Mo Besic at Everton is another one who I've always liked, seems to have a bit of steel about him. Bad injury recently though and only getting back, could be good for a change for both him & the club.

Our forwards SHOULD be good enough at this level & have good potential, but I'm hoping they can sort themselves out this year and get amongst the goals more often.

8Huddersfield conceded 10 more than us this season. Their goal difference was worse than ours. They lost by 3 or more goals on 4 occasions. They didn't score a goal in the entire playoffs. They lost 9-1 on aggregate to Fulham! If that's what a progressive manager means, I'd rather stick with Bruce.

Seriously, looking at some of their results, our supporters would be calling for his head if he was here, despite the style of football he was playing.

I don't particularly like the comparison to Huddersfield to be honest. Yes they went up, but they've massively overachieved in doing so imo. I can't help but think they could be in for a massive shock next season. The jury is still out on the Wagner hype for me. I don't know to what extent this season was a Leicester-esque outlier, or the fact that Wagner is the best manager in the league. At the moment I'm leaning towards the former.

Regardless of the difference in financial spending, I would happily lose to Fulham 9-1 on aggregate and get promoted back to the PL via the playoffs without scoring a goal

He is definitely gone mate if he triggered a certain amount of appearances the deal is automatically made permanent and he has.

Great! Glad thats one off the books anyways

We paid 5m with the loan fee w got 3m that's a good piece of business for us I feel

has this been confirmed anywhere? not doubting just haven't seen anything to confirm he's left

Exactly. We need to find gems that fit into our style of play (whatever that is). Not these fringe players or 35 year olds who may give us half a good season. We have a new scouting network. Let's use it

And this for me is the worry. A well organised team with a clear plan where every player (starting or sub) knows their role can go a long way. I do credit Bruce with getting organised in defense but from there on it is missing.
