I’ve really come round to just wanting the lads to win something. I’m not that bothered about just qualifying for UCL tbh. I keep looking at Newcastle season or even Spurs over the last ten years. I don’t follow Villa for the business/commercial side. I’m a romantic. I just want to experience a little piece of glory. I was eight years old watching the 96 Coca-Cola cup final on TV and it was the best day of my life. The childhood fan in me wants to feel that again and my kids now to feel that.

Oh, that's a different story all together--if I was offered the choice between finishing 6th and winning Conference League or finishing 4th and exiting to Lille, I would go for the former.

You don't care about 4th or 5th? Strange one. How can you not prefer 4th?

If we're 4th we'll be done with a few games left and be able to rest players for the European final we could be in.

Wonder if there's a scenario where we need to win that final to give us our first title in years, and also get us into the Champions League through the PL.

If both positions earn Champions League, I don't care. I am hoping for that to be effectively confirmed by the end of next week. If we are 5th at that point, we can do the same in terms of resting because Man United won't catch us.

Fingers crossed they do and theoretically they should.  City having played 4 games in 9 days and real 1 in 9 days doesn’t help.  Prem teams could be vey tired for first legs.

Yeah, hopefully they've rotated enough to see it through. This isn't a particularly good Real side, their competition is really poor in La Liga this year.

With the season we've had, contending with the additional games on a Thursday night, then Sunday, with a relatively small squad, anyone complaining about finishing 5th is an absolute donut. We've beaten everybody above us this season bar Liverpool, and still have the home game to play to possibly put that right. Gone on our longest ever home winning run. Into the QF of a European compo, have had serious injuries in key areas to several players and still with a shout of finishing 4th with 6 to go. Some people seem to forget where we were the beginning of last season.

What Unai and the players have achieved this season is nothing short of remarkable imo.

    I enjoy this post.

It's a couple of million more the higher you finish in the prem isn't it?

Actually interested where we budgeted to finish this season, 6th or 7th I'd guess.

Apparently Everton keep on budgeting to finish 10th which isn't great for their FFP returns.😂

That's true, but ultimately not significant either way.

I feel like Brentford at home is a game we just had to win to get 4th

But 5th would still be an amazing achievement

4th or 5th is totally irrelevant if the coefficient points work out, couldn't care less either way.

    Ahh, your being sarcastic???

I'm being factual, certain injuries especially when your a 30 plus athete, can have a big physical and psychological effect, especially the position he plays. It's why I think Lenglet may be a better option to keep.

    You’re = you are. 👍

If you don’t mind sharing what you know mate

I haven’t posted on here as much in recent times—let’s say circumstances in my life have changed and have allowed me to “hear” things.
Their interest is genuine, will depend on Villa finding a replacement, all of which is fairly obvious.

Really not keen on the idea of 30/31 year old players of dubious quality being signed. Makes me wonder if we’ve either lost our ambition or have FFP issues, but I’d rather we do nothing than litter the squad with aging players who don’t offer any improvements on the team. Free transfers are a good strategy when you’re bringing in players like Kamara and Tielemans who are quality (even if Tielemans had lost his way a bit at Leicester), not players like Anderson who’s already been poor in the league and going to be receiving his pension soon. Some of the other names mentioned as suggestions for a team in 2nd with a world class manager like Dele Alli, I mean WTF?

Hopefully people will regain their sanity soon and start talking about quality players who will actually improve us.

    🤨
