So in terms of the line up and based on what Smith has said about seeing different combinations etc...how about these line ups? When you combine the best of the 2 teams and with Douglas + Trezeguet added in we have a pretty solid starting 11 and strong bench now...I wonder which pre-season game we will see closer to our starting 11 playing together...maybe Liepzig away?...
Anyway for today:
1st Half
Steer
Guilbert Chester Hause Taylor
Hourihane
Grealish Lansbury
Green Kodjia El Ghazi
2nd Half
Kalinic
Bree Engels Mings Targett
Barney
McGinn O'Hare
Jota Wesley Davis
Subs: Hogan, Konsa, Nyland...

by the sounds of ticket sales then this might be easier game to get tickets for this game
Hmmm yeah, true that! I have recruited a yank and 2 canadians to be Villa fans over here..they think a 7 hour drive to Liepzig is nothing compared to some of the road trips they are used to! I also did the claret membership so have some options on home games too but as I saw in another thread it will be interesting to see if the club put a cap at all on memberships as they have done with ST's...it's a great problem for the club to have though in terms of demand to see us play...all speaks to expanding the stadium over the coming years. Cannot wait to see the Shrewsbury match tomorrow too on youtube!

Ah...tickets go on sale Monday and for 10 Euros a pop.....here

Anybody on here going for a jolly up?
Yeah a few of us from Basel are tempted but its probably easier getting back to the Uk for a game than to this one. Does anyone know how many tickets are left?

Actually I do wonder if we may start to dabble a little with 3 at the back during some of these friendlies too...
Score prediction... 2-0 Villa...

Just got mine in L8! Went for the cheapest one as there’s a few games I know I can’t make due to holidays already booked and other commitments. Hopefully the resale scheme will be easy to use for the games I can’t make it to!
Sold!

Yeah i have had one for the last 2 years as I am living abroad but it helped me get to the 2 play off finals. I have renewed again this year just in case it helps land a few home or away games here and there but I suspect it will be even tougher getting to matches this year.

Yep wasn't sure what it would look like either but I prefer it to the red trim. Thanks for mocking it up!

I think if you add a little bit of subtle red between the green and black stripes, bring it a tad more with the 1994 away kit, I might just fall in love with that. Not too much red, just a faint darker red line.
I still really like that though and would be delighted if our away kit next season is anything similar to that.
Can you try a claret rim instead of the red and as suggested..thin claret lines separating the green and black..could that work?

I've yet to meet any Villans in Portland, but we've been in the C'ship since I've been up here, so we'll see who comes out of the woodwork now. Can't be many.
Yep I have met 1 other Villa fan after 2 years in Basel (Switzerland) and one other through twitter who I will meet up with for one of our sky matches..he has been here 5 years and said he has not met another Villa fan yet either. I have however converted a few others to follow our mighty club and all are aiming to come to a live game with me (2 Canadians, 1 Swiss and an American) UTV

It's essentially a great first test for us...pressure on them to get the result but we will go for it and the result, whatever happens, will be a great indicator for us.
What is positive is that by day 1, our squad as we know it now, will be greatly strenghthened..it seems like Dean Smith will go into this season fearing noone. Exciting times ahead. UTV

Time moves slow doesn't it? Feels like being a kid at Christmas again.
Haha agreed..woke up early here..did not sleep well..6 and a bit hours to go..thankfully my youngest daughter has a footy match this morning which will help to take my mind off the nerves..then a fridge full of beer and mates coming round for the game..we can do this! I was at the final last year..I feel more confident today but maybe thats because we still have a 2nd chance Tuesday if we need one? Though I hate thinking that way.

Ah he just wrote back..for those interested he reckons between March and Sept of 1897..we won 11 on the bounce..inc 9 league wins and 2 cup wins..all that matters today of course is 3 pts but still it would be an impressive record to match...

Something like 1975 was it? Someone else posted the deets in another thread but I think it was then.
I think that was the last time we did 8 in a row..was curious about 9...asked my cousin who tends to know these kinds of things and he said he thought it might be as far back as 1890 spanning 2 seasons?!..

Sorry if I have missed this elsewhere...when was the last time we won 9 in a row? Cheers

If you're talking about the line ups above...no, I was just sat around with not much else to do and had a thought of 2 possible line ups based on what Smith has said...tried to just keep them balanced...
