  1. I was like that mate until I did the course! I read book after book and they may as well of been written in Spanish. Then I did the course and it all clicked.

Basically, the S mode means you control the shutter speed and the camera will control the aperture and ISO, A mode means the opposite, you control the aperture and ISO, the camera takes care of the shutter speed.

If your taking photos of something moving quick that you want to freeze use S mode

If you not taking a picture of something moving use A mode. (This is what I use most of the time)

Your ISO helps in low light situations but you lose quality the higher the ISO. In bright light use 100/200 In low light use 1600+

For DOF use A mode. For a shallow DOF(blurry background) you need a large aperture (which is confusing because these are the lower numbers try f5 or lower if your lens can). Focus on what you want sharp by half clicking until it beeps, then keeping your finger on the button half down, recompose your shot to how you want it and then squeeze down to take the shot.

For landscapes or pictures where you want as much as possible in focus you use a small aperture (large number - try f11) then focus about a 1/3 of the way into your shot by half clicking, then compose and shoot.

Best way to understand it is line something like chess pieces up in a row and take a few shots changing your aperture as you go and compare them.

I'm no expert by a country mile but I hope this explanation helps???

  2. Off to have a looksy at the Martin Parr Exhibition tomorrow morning.

The Wife and kid have no interest at all so I'm going on my own. First time I've ever been to an exhibition so haven't got a clue what to expect! I'll probably walk through it in 15 mins, bored out my mind!

I saw him on that crap photography show with the bird off the Gadget show presenting it and quite liked him so fingers crossed!

  3. I've always liked taking photos with a crappy compact, but only point and click in auto mode.

I treated myself to a DSLR in May last year but stuck with Auto. Did a one day beginners course, learning about manual modes, at the beginning of Nov last year and haven't looked back!

I'm totally hooked now! It's become a bit of an obsession, not sure if that's good or bad?

  4. Thanks! I was really nervous I was going get slaughtered lol!

    The cat was f/1.8 : 1/15" : 35mm : ISO 3200

    The dog was f5.6 : 1/40" : 46mm : ISO 200

    Trees are f/11.0 : 1/30" : 18mm : ISO 200

    Sculpture was f/16.0 : 1/30" : 18mm : ISO 200

I'd highly recommend Blipfoto as it encourages you to take a photo a day and you can see other peoples work and check their settings like this to help you learn!

  5. I have to say I'm totally addicted to this hobby now! To the point where I think my wife is ready to leave lol! Does anybody on here use Blipfoto? That has really inspired me to work at it!

I know I'm still a million miles from being an expert but here is some of my latest stuff that personally I'm proud of. I'd love to have some your comments on them!

  6. Football is about supporting your team under any circumstances, not just when they're doing well.

Says who? Is this the law? Also you don't have to pay £750 on a season ticket to 'support' your team?

If there is a lot like me perhaps the club needs to address that?

How would they address it ?

You made a choice to support the club. You've started to turn your back on it because we aren't covering ourselves in glory. Not that we ever have been for any sustained period in the last 100 years or so.

Surely you're the one that needs to address it as its your choice not the clubs.

They could address it by looking after the loyal fans. Make some extra perks other than you get to keep the same seat for actually shelling out hard earned money up front for the whole season without knowing who is going to be managing/ whether were going to sell our best players/ whether the team is going to play well. There is hardly any benefit now of having a season ticket. The core of a football club is it's fans and the attendances are vital to them as a business. I'm afraid Villa are not doing anything to keep them. There maybe a few hardcore fans on here that bang theirs chests everytime they talk about Villa as if it's the only thing in their lives however most of the Villa fans I know or meet are all saying the same thing, they are apathetic and bored of watching us not compete, failing to buy quality players when we need them, selling our best players just as we make some ground. Look at attendances the facts are there, I'm not making this up.

We will always be Villa but there's a lot of fans that have wised up and keeping their money in their pockets now.

  7. I've decided 100% I'm not renewing next season for me and my son for the first time in 8 years(4 for my son). Nothing to do with Houllier. I'm just fed up with it. Villa and football have got boring to be honest.

It costs a lot of money, very rarely are we entertained, were highly unlikely to win anything and it's cheaper to buy your tickets separately anyway with all the deals they throw at fans(which I used to point out to the general but got shouted down for it). There seems very little benefit of being a ST holder.

It cracked me up the other night when they did the poxy badge giveaway at the Sunderland game. I never took my 10 year old season ticket holding son as it was his first day back to school. I showed them his season ticket and asked if I could have one fore him explaining why he hadn't come. They informed me they were under 'strict' instructions not to give any extra out as they only had enough for those that turned up? I pointed out they were expecting him but they wouldn't budge for their 'strict' instructions. Just pathetic, I know its a very minor thing but the club doesn't give a shit about us so why should we bother caring back?

    You're wrong.

And yet again, in the face of the club making a gesture (albeit a minor one) by giving away a free badge it just isn't good enough for some, we really do like a good old whinge don't we on here.

No I'm not wrong I just didn't type what I meant, sorry. I will watch us on TV when were on saving money there and won't have to pay for the usual 1 maybe 2 games per season I miss due to other arrangements. Therefore making it cheaper FOR ME to take advantage of the deals and not to have a ST.

As for the whingeing about the free badge. I couldn't give a shit really. I never made a big deal out of it and even said to the guy I'm not going to argue over a poxy badge that cost probably 30p for the club to make. If you want to say it's whinging fine, I'm just pointing out how little the club cares about the fans. I tried to get one for my ten year old son at three different gates and they all said no. My point is they had been given strict (all three used the same phrase) instructions not too, pathetic.

  8. Your a better fan than me, congratulations you win errrr... nothing.

I don't care who questions my support. To be honest, it is wavering. I will always support Aston Villa and would never change teams. But yes If we have to have 'levels' of support I admit I used to be a level 10 supporter but have become currently a level 6 supporter and next season will probably drop to a level 4 supporter. So what?

If there is a lot like me perhaps the club needs to address that?

  10. I think both teams should have to submit team sheets and the same teams play on the replay.

It's an unfair advantage for them to call it off today whilst all other games are on.

In fact **** it we should get 3 points by default!

  11. also people who spend hundreds of pounds on their partners for xmas, our main present had a budget of £50, like i said stocking fillers is £30, why would you go out and spend £300 - £400 on your partner? utter madness IMO

I can see why your don't like that. Theres a limit to any mans crisp in take!
